Newsies: Bandana and Angel
Actors: Jeff Thysell and Scott Thysell (?)
Bandana and Angel are twin Newsies.
(Real twins for once, as in they're played by two different actors who can both appear on screen at the same time).
Bandana is the 3rd member of the Jack Kelly fan cult. He never leaves the lodging house without wearing a red bandana that's identical to Jack's.
Angel is the good twin. The only way you can tell them apart is that Angel doesn't wear a bandana because he's not a Jack Kelly fan.
Wherever Bandana is, Angel is never far behind, always making sure that his brother stays out of trouble.
At the rally, Bandana gets into scab discussions with Glasses and Ladder.
Angel watches carefully from the other side.
Despite being the biggest Jack Kelly fan, Bandana is not the one who scabs, it's Angel who does. Bandana thinks of Jack as a hero but would never follow him into scabbing.
Angel's sick of being the good twin and cleaning up after Bandana's mess so he decides to give the 'bad twin' thing a try. What he's hoping to get out of this is a life far from the lousy headlines and the deadlines in between.

Newsie: Tony
Tony is a West Side Newsie. He gives Jake a run for his money when it comes to crazy clothing combinations. He wears a pinstriped brown vest over overalls and an orange shirt with smaller stripes.
He's living his own West Side Story, being a Newsie from the wrong side of the tracks,
in love with a Newsie from the opposing neighbourhood named Mario. He met this boy last night.
The West Side Newsies are against their relationship. Tony smiles in an attempt to break the tension.
The Newsie who's most against this relationship is his best friend, Riff, who's also the leader of the West Side Newsies.
Riff is like a brother to him; he'd give the shirt off his back.
Tony doesn't know who to choose: his old friends, who's always been there for him.
Or his new lover, who he's fallen head over heels for.
Will they have a happy ending?

Newsie: Grinner
Grinner is a Newsie who always looks on the bright side. He can't go anywhere without a silly grin on his face. He wears a striped cap and has two outfits, one is brown/beige, the other is brown/beige/orange.
He's best buddies with Trance, letting Trance use his shoulder to rest his arm on. Then Trance returns the favour by letting them both rest each others arms around each other's shoulders as they leave.
Grinner is also one of Turner's tall pals.
Nothing can break him, no one can make him, give his rights away. His rights to smile goofily at any given chance.
Bonus: Random screenshot of Jake being adorable. He looks five:

Newsies: The Scab Brothers
Sly and Sneak are curly-haired brothers and curly-haired scabs. Like most siblings, sometimes they don't get along. Their morning conversations usually goes something like this:
Sly: Hey bummer, we got work to do.
Sneak: Since when did you become me mother?
Sly: Ah, stop your bawling.
Sneak: Hey, who asked you?
They don't scab at the same time, they like to space out their scabbing by taking turns on different days. The one that isn't scabbing, spends the day shopping for a new outfit.
Sly brazenly shows up at the final rally like nothing happened. Like most ex-scabs, Sly is forgiven without any consequences. His almost scab pal, Stable Kid stands right along side him.
Sneak isn't as shameless as Sly and sits out the final rally. He's too ashamed to show his face ever again.

Final 10 Background Newsies
I'm going to be uploading my final 10 background Newsies in these upcoming months. Life has been busy and these usually take around 2-3 days to do so unfortunately I won't have much time to do them anymore. I've covered most of the prominent background Newsies already so there aren't that many left anyway. I may still upload more after these last 10 in the future but they will be at irregular times. The final 10 may also have some delays in when they are uploaded.
If you have any request for a background Newsie that I haven't covered yet, now's the time to send me a pic of the Newsie and I'll see if I can cover them.
Thank you for all the support from the people who gave these posts likes and reblogs over the years. Shout-out to @thatoneandlonelyemo2005 for liking, reblogging and hashtagging each and every one of them since near the beginning. And thanks to all the other regulars who have liked and reblogged!
Until next time,
Carrying the banner!

Newsie: Jamal "Ace" Carter
(This Newsie's name and description were created with help from Chatgpt.)
Ace is a sharp and quick-witted Newsie who always thinks on his feet. He uses his charisma to draw people in whether selling papes or cracking jokes.
He dresses in a light pink shirt under a dark vest and a black cap. He's the epitome of a background Newsie, appearing in the far backgrounds of most scenes.
Though he's tough on the outside, he has a softer side that comes out when he's with those he trusts.
Deep down, Ace has a big dream, he may be just a Newsie for now, but he's determined to rise above his circumstances. As his dream is to be no longer a background Newsie, but to be front page story.
Here is Ace's full description from Chatgpt:
Ace Carter is a sharp and quick-witted young man, always thinking on his feet. He's got that kind of natural charisma that draws people in, whether he’s selling newspapers or cracking jokes. Ace is resourceful and street-smart, knowing how to navigate the gritty city streets and make a quick buck. He’s not afraid of hard work, but he’s also got a sense of humor and a lighthearted attitude that helps him keep things in perspective, even when life gets tough. Though he’s tough on the outside, there’s a softer side to Ace that comes out when he’s with those he trusts. He’s loyal to his friends, always having their backs when they need him. His confidence and charm sometimes get him into trouble, but he always manages to talk or hustle his way out. Deep down, Ace has big dreams—he may be just a newsie for now, but he’s determined to rise above his circumstances. He’s a survivor, and he’s got a heart of gold, even if he doesn’t always show it.

Newsie: Stake
Being a Brooklyn Newsie, Stake's colour of choice is pink (it hides stains well), so he wears a striped salmon pink shirt. For his pants he chooses one in pewter (because it's also good at hiding stains).
Carrying a stake in one hand, he uses a pocket knife to sharpen it with his other. He's not hunting vampires, he just likes pointy things.
Stake can't go anywhere without a cigarette in his lips and a puff of smoke obscuring his face
He gets bored easily and rarely pays attention to his environment, including the arrival of intruders or grown-up conversations, unless,
there are male body parts in his line of view
or he's thinking about making out with Spot Conlon.
His Manhattan counterpart is Stick.

Newsie: South
South is a Newsie with a canonical name. He has multiple outfits and just as many identities. As South, he wears an olive vest over a striped pearl white shirt and a dark cap.
He and Racetrack are acquaintances. (He's not close enough to Race to be allowed a spot next to him, he only gets to stand behind his shoulder.)
"About time, South". Racetrack knows him well enough to know he's not serious about scabbing.
South only briefly scabbed because he smelt money.
But he doesn't need money because fortune's found him (but don't ask him how). South's able to afford many outfits. South's not his only identity, he has three other identities depending on what he's wearing:
His second identity is East. His outfit is not much different from the other Newsies' outfits at the rally, in that East just has a jacket on over his regular Newsies outfit. His East identity is pretty sombre.
His third identity is West, who also makes an appearance at Medda's. When he's West, he has on a jacket over a pumpkin orange shirt and a black neck scarf. He completes the outfit with a fisherman's hat. His West identity is his most cheerful.
Not only does his East and West personalities attend the rally, his South identity also makes an appearance. Although it's not quite South who's here, it's South-bot, who sways back and forth like he's about to malfunction.
His fourth and final identity is North. He wears an earth brown vest over an arctic blue shirt. This is his most zen persona. Even when someone is talking to him, he doesn't move or respond. Furthermore, he doesn't react much to Jack scabbing, he just gently shakes his head in disapproval.
His final persona is what gave rise to his descendant, The Karate Kid:

Newsie: Delancey
Actor: Mike Galaxy
Delancey dresses in a cedar brown vest over a coral pink checked shirt. He lets his greasy hair loose by not wearing a cap.
No one knows if Delancey is his first, middle or last name. Or if it's a nickname or a pseudonym like Jack Kelly.
One thing's for sure, he's not related to the Delancey brothers even though he shares a resemblance with them, particularly Morris. If the Delanceys' are what you call a family, he's glad he ain't got any.
Despite his small stature, he will stare down his enemies
and if he sees the Delancey brothers, he'll kick their rear.
What's more, Delancey's got what it takes to stop the wagons
and he'll do what he's gotta do until the Newsies break the will of mighty Bill and Joe.
In a fictitious real-life AU, Mike Galaxy dreams of running away to Santa Monica with Christian Bale to become volleyball players:
He gets on the train that's bound for Santa Monica.
Unfortunately for him, dreams don't come true, no they don't, not in Santa Monica. He winds up alone, working as a telemarketer and not being able to afford any clothes.

Newsie: Comb
Comb is a ginger Newsie with spaced out bangs that resemble a broken comb. He wears a sand vest over a charcoal shirt.
He doesn't react much to what's happening around him or even pay attention to what's going on.
He's just happy to be part of the group.
Comb is always one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave. He'll push his way to the front if he has to. (Try to find him, he runs diagonally.)
Comb is a man of few words. He lets his hulking size do most of the talking.
Only the giant, Mike the Greaser, can make him look small in comparison.
Nevertheless, he's still got what it takes to stop the scabbers.

Newsie: Buzz
Buzz is a Newsie who's decided to go against the trend and get a buzz cut instead of the usual bowl cut/ curly hair that are popular with Newsies. He has two outfits. One is a dark vest over a light blue shirt while the other is a beige vest over a dark blue shirt.
His head warms up too quickly, so, in addition to having cropped hair, he has to keep his cap off as much as possible to vent the heat.
Because if his head gets too hot, he gets into fights. That's where the term hot-headed comes from (from a fictional background Newsie among hundreds with no name or lines.)
When Buzz's head is sufficiently cooled down, he can put his cap back on and express more positive emotions. (He's smiling in the second gif, the sun is just in his eyes.)

Hi! I was wondering where you were finding info on the background newsies makes such as bleach/chattery/deck .etc! Are they canon and are their names canon? :)
The names and information for the background Newsies profiles were all created by me from my observations of the Newsies. Some of the names were created by the fandom such as Flipper and Long Johns. None of it is canon except for what you can already see in the movie!

Newsie: Deck
Deck is a Brooklyn Newsie who wears his wine purple unbuttoned shirt tucked into his burgundy pants with his white undershirt exposed. His hat and suspenders are black.
If each Brooklyn Newsie had a Manhattan counterpart, Deck's would be Racetrack due to his love of gambling. He always has his deck of playing cards on hand.
And much like Racetrack, he has a fondness for tobacco.
He carelessly leaves his papes by the dock where it gets splashed on by Newsies diving into the water.
It doesn't matter to him if he makes no sales from selling wet papes, because unlike Racetrack who's always on a losing streak, Deck always wins big when he places a bet.
He hangs out with the Long Johns crowd. The reason why these guys are always in their long johns is because they keep losing to Deck in strip poker.
With the strike on, Deck's gambling skills allow him to continue making a living, and with that, he's off to the races again.
The other Manhattan to Brooklyn Newsie counterparts are:
Jack Kelly = Spot Conlon
Kid Blink = Bleach
Mush = Long Johns
Skittery = Chattery
Swifty = Raggy
Jake = Bowler

Newsie: Vanilla
Actor: Christopher Bonomo
Vanilla is a typical well-dressed and attractive Manhattan Newsie
with long legs.
As a typical Newsie, he has many close male friendships, including Ladder
and Chewy;
he likes to sing and dance (which is appropriate considering he's in a musical);
and he's a proud and defiant member of Team Blue consisting of do-gooders such as David Jacobs, Bumlets and Cross.
He does have a rebellious side but only in a 1950s alternate universe:
where he is a greaser with frosted tips.

Kid Blink and Mush's First Date
Love is in the air at the lodging house as Kid Blink is ready to ask Mush out on a date.
Seeing Mush (and his abs) first thing in the morning, always puts a smile on Kid Blink's face.
Blink doesn't like to wear his heart on his sleeves, but he decides to rip off the Band-Aid and go right up to Mush to ask him out. Mush spins him around before he can get a word out.
While lining up for papes at the distribution centre, Mush lets Blink in on a little secret. He tells Blink that he knows that Blink wants to ask him out. Blink had spoken to Crutchy about it earlier, but since Crutchy can't keep a secret to save his life, he accidentally told Mush.
The two can't stop giggling at each other, thinking about their date after work.
Blink and Mush are no longer only work partners, now they're also romantic partners.
During their date, they can't keep their hands off each other. Nor can they stop giggling.
The only times that Mush doesn't like being touched are the times when Blink playfully smacks him on the head.
But anywhere below the neck is fine.
Particularly around the shoulders.
Blink wants to get Mush a gift. They break into a shoe shop so he can steal Mush a pair of new shoes with matching laces.
The cops are waiting for them outside.
They spend some time in court but are released when Denton shows up to pay their fines. Luckily, Denton just happened to be in the building bailing out some other Newsies.
Blink takes Mush to Tibby's to finish out their date. Blink can only afford to share a drink with Mush on his salary.
Blink is feeling tipsy after drinking half a Coca Cola. He climbs onto the table to declare his feelings for Mush. Mush being Mush, doesn't take it seriously, but finds it hilarious.
They take some selfies together using Denton's camera to memorialise their very first date.
Later that evening, Mush falls asleep smiling, dreaming about the amazing day he just had. And the many more dates that are yet to come:

Newsie: Fink
Fink is a double crossing, and sometimes triple crossing, Newsie who switches sides more than he switches outfits. He's usually seen in a faded purple shirt under a dark vest and black cap.
His first time scabbing comes after Seize the Day. Fink has a chance to show support for the strikers when the ex-scabs throw down their papes but he doesn't take it.
Instead, he discreetly switches sides when the strikers trash Weasel's building. He joins in mid-scabbing, acting like he was part of the movement all along.
New day, new outfit, same old scabber. This time he wears a buttermilk yellow check shirt. After evading detection one time, Fink decides to risk it and scabs a second time. (Note: he's back to wearing purple inside the distribution centre even though he was just wearing yellow at the gates. It's a continuity error and a way of knowing which scenes were filmed on the same day/ close together and which weren't)
When Brooklyn arrives, Fink realises he's about to be on the losing side yet again, so makes a last minute switch. He gets whiplash in rejoining the strikers and celebrating their victory.
Back at the lodging house, Fink helps the strikers make protest signs (notice the paintbrush in his hand). No one is aware that he is a two time scab. Being friends with Skittery, he's learnt a few tricks about denying that he did anything.
At the rally, Fink waits by the door as Synder slowly creeps into frame. Fink licks his lips, wondering if he can get away with scabbing for a third time. It's no longer about the money, it's now just about the rush.
His third chance at scabbing arrives when Jack becomes a scab. It's Fink's perfect chance to go undetected when all eyes are on the ex-strike leader.
Fink lets his conscience guide him and decides to quit scabbing. He wears his baby blue shirt to show that he has overcome his scabbing addiction.
Definition of Fink:
A fink is someone who snitches or tattles, like your sister who told your parents that you were the one who ate the last chocolate chip cookie. That fink!
Fink is a North American slang term that originally meant "informant" or "strikebreaker" and expanded to be a general pejorative term for a jerk or an unpleasant person.

Newsie: Turner
Turner is a small Newsie who dresses in a dark vest over a marigold shirt and clay brown pants.
He always turns his back away from people because he's self-conscious of his height.
He hangs out with the younger Newsies, not because he likes them, but because they make him feel taller.
His real friends are the taller Newsies who he goes up to when he doesn't have to stand at the very front to see what's going on.
Due to being vertically challenged, he needs a mezzanine seat to see the flickers. Thanks to his connections to Kid Blink who has connections to Jack who has connections to Medda, he gets a permanent box.
For shrimps like Racetrack and Turner, being on elevated ground, is the one time they feel lousy with stature.
Note: I can't be sure if these two are the same person, but either way, they have the same nickname and backstory.
