I came across this in one of my EDS support groups and I can relate. Soon I will be getting a wheel chair because the pain of walking is unbearable. Also with my POTS I am at risk for passing out. The wheelchair I hope will improve my quality of life. January 2019- Fortune Cookie Soap Box I unboxed the January 2019 Fortune Cookie Soap Box with the theme You Were Born to Sparkle. I thought this was a perfect bag to start the new year. I paid 16.95 for this box and there is no longer a shipping charge as long as you live in the USA. I estimate the value on the box to be $42.18. That is almost triple value. My POTS is being a real pain lately but the cardiologist said my Murmur was worse than the last appointment I had six months ago. So back on the Holter moniter I go. I also get an echo every two years now. When did Holter moniter come with cell phones? Apparently if they find anything concerning they will call you and tell you to go to the doctor or emergency room. They can also directly ask you questions about certain events. I like that I don’t have to write anything anymore. It’s all done on the cell phone. I like it. Also I have no idea when I will make my next YouTube video. My face and neck has swollen up so large and the doctors are not sure what’s going on. It’s not an allergic reaction because we have already given me all the proper medication for it, and it has not reduced the swelling since Wednesday. I’m a little nervous. There are some days I not sure how I get though my pain, and there are others where they are ok enough that I can just take care of my some of daily needs like showering, and laundry. This year my insurance doubled their deductible from $700 to $1500, and now I can’t afford my physical therapy that has been making my pain bearable. It really kept me from becoming bed bound. Most daily tasks have now been taken over by my mother. I am grateful for her assistance, and frankly I don’t know what I would do with out her. I can’t even shower without help because of my risk for passing out (I do have a shower chair, but sometimes that’s not enough). She also now mostly looks after my diabetic dog as well. I just feel guilty. She now has two jobs. She takes care of my Grandma (she has dementia), and now she has to take care of me. My husband would gladly help out but he is a truck driver, and is only home once every three months. It’s hard being young, and being chronically ill. My precious MuShu of 18 years went over the rainbow bridge today. It was difficult to let him go since I had him so long. He almost made it to his nineteenth birthday which was March 3, 2000. I was 14 when I got him, and he was the the best stubborn loving little guy you could ever ask for. I will miss you MuShu. He was always there when I needed him, and always knew how to make me laugh. HOLIDAY VEGAN & GLUTEN FREE SHORTBREAD COOKIES- VANILLA, ZESTY CITRUS, ORANGE CRANBERRY, BUTTER PECAN CHERRY MACADAMIA NUT, TROPICAL RUM These are dairy free/egg free/wheat free These cookies are easy to make, and require very little ingredients. I recommend if you are not allergic to almonds you make this with almond flour, or gluten free all purpose flour for a cookie that is closer to a shortbread texture. But I am highly allergic to almonds, and so is a few of my family members, so I did not want to bake cookies that my entire family could not enjoy. Coconut flour will produce a crumbler cookie that is more dry. It also needs more moisture in the recipe, and I will walk you through the exchange if you want to use coconut flour. I hope you enjoy these cookies as much as my family did. Chronic illness and the holidays means many things for many people, but we all have one thing in common-mental and physical stress. Now I know your saying most people have that during the holiday, but people with chronic illnesses are in an unique situation. I can only speak for myself, but during the holidays I feel isolated. I can’t travel to visit my family. Most of them live over 500 miles away from me, and I am not able to drive myself long distances. I can’t eat what most people do because of my food allergies, Gastroparesis, GERD, and swallowing issues. I am also in severe pain all the time from my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I constantly sublux my hips, knees, shoulders, and ankles. I also have a very bad back. I have pulmonary hypertension, which means that any exertion lowers my blood oxygen by a lot, and I have trouble breathing. I also have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome which causes Tachycardia and Bradycardia, and makes me pass out randomly. You are able to witness my POTS in action. I go from a siting position to a slightly more upright position and my heart rate rises by more than 30 beats per minute. So holidays are difficult because I can’t celebrate like everyone else. I can’t go out with my friends, which is hard for them to understand. I have lost some friendships because of it. So people just think I am lazy, and others think I just don’t care enough about them. So chronic illness is very isolating. I hope by making this video others will see they are not alone. We need to come together to support one another. So often patients are over looked because we don’t fit into the “norm”. Doctors are to busy looking at individual symptoms, they are not looking at the big picture here. As a person with many chronic illnesses, I know what it’s like being shuffled from one doctor to the next. Some might think your crazy, depressed, have anxiety, attention seeking, hypochondriac, drug addict, delusional, or my personal favorite that your just obese. I’m not sure how all my chronic illness including my genetic ones is caused by my obesity. I am lucky that I have found a few good doctors including wonderful physical therapists who support me; but it has been a battle that I still struggle with today. If you have never had anxiety before, you will once you become chronically ill. You have to jump through so many hoops to get the care you deserve, and trying the find doctors that are there for more then a paycheck is difficult these days. People ask me why are you always so tired? Just go to bed earlier. Make sure you get 8 hours of sleep. They don’t understand what it’s like to live with POTS. To constantly bounce back and forth between Bradycardia and Tachycardia. When my pulse and blood pressure drops to low that’s when I pass out. Sometimes I don’t get much notice before I hit the floor. The one great thing that has come out of all of this is the support and knowledge that comes from you all. So I was supposed to go see my family for Christmas but it doesn’t look like I will be making it this year. I will be spending another holiday by myself. My medical team has advised me against driving alone (anything other than dr appointments or grocery shopping) because of the high risk of me blacking out/passing out. I am also having severe vision problems. I really wanted to see my family because my this might be the last time I see my great aunt and great uncle because they are both on hospice care and could pass any day. This was my latest blood pressure reading today and my heart rate was as low as 38 and as high as 127. Living with POTS is so isolating sometimes.
