OJT EATS | Crisp Pizza

For the last year or 2, one of the most viral pizza places is London has got to be Crisp in Hammersmith. It's routinely called out as the best NY style pizza in London and often just the best pizza in general. They are located in The Chancellors pub and it operates with a bit of a strange booking system in that you only reserve the pizzas with seating in the pub working on a first come first serve basis. We weren't organised enough to get a booking so we headed over there early to try and get a walk-in spot.

This is the menu, propped up outside the pub itself. Luckily, we'd arrived early enough so that after a short wait, we were able to order some pizzas. When ordering, we asked which was the most popular and the answer shot back that it was the Vecna (we still have no idea why it's named the Vecna but presumably the chef is a Stranger Things fan).

They let you order half and halfs (other than the Tie-Dye which has a different sauce) so we figured it was a good opportunity to order as many different toppings as possible. This first one was the Crisp W6 pie and the pepperoni. We pretty quickly understood why this place has the reputation it has. The bottom was light and crispy and the crust was bubbly, crispy, a little chewy and the sauce rich and tangy. We particularly like the lashings of pecorino on the Crisp W6. The pepperoni itself was really good quality and the basil was a nice touch too.

This next one was half n'duja and half Vecna. The n'duja was really good but pretty similar to the pepperoni. The base and crust of this one was just as good as the other one. The Vecna did turn out to be our favourite. You'd think we'd be a bit tired of pepperoni and hot honey by now but they were pretty sparing with the honey so it wasn't as sweet as a lot of others and the burrata was excellent. That and the Crisp W6 would be the half and half we order again.

This place definitely does excellent pizza. I'm not sure if I'd go so far as to say the best pizza in London but it is definitely up there. It's a bit of a shame it's all in the way out in Hammersmith and that it's so hard to get a table but if you happen to crave a NY style pizza, it's probably the best place to go in London!
