OJT EATS | Jhu Jian Hotpot

If you've been reading these OJT EATS posts over the last few months or have ever been to Taiwan, you'll know that hotpot is huge in Taiwan. Regardless the weather, the hotpot restaurants (of which there are many) are pretty much always full. We'd planned a day trip out to Keelung and He Ping island. While we were there, we were told that there was a branch of Jhu Jian Hotpot there that had a very impressive view. After a bit of a wait, we managed to get a table.

Jhu Jian Hotpot is known for stone hotpots which is what you can see in the pic above. There are a bunch of options for broth but we decided to go with a slightly medicinal broth with a bunch of onions in it. It smelt amazing.

You can also choose what things you want to go in the broth with a bunch of meat and seafood options. I went for this marbled beef option. They described it as marbled and it didn't disappoint. Really good quality beef!

It also came with some pork lard rice. Amazingly aromatic and absolutely delicious with lots of crispy garlic on top.

To go along with the meat, we also ordered this seafood platter as one of our other "mains". It was very impressive with a good variety of stuff from shellfish to different types of fish. It was all super fresh as well.

Here you can see everything we ordered including the last main of just fish. That was also really nice. You get a little bit more of each type of fish but it all cooked super quickly in the broth and tasted great!

As promised as well, this was the view from the restaurant. It was right next to the water and had a balcony that you could go out on to enjoy the view.

There are so many great hotpot places in Taiwan that it gets really hard to choose between them all. This place can definitely hold its own though. The broth was really tasty and the meat was good quality. There was a buffet veg bar as well that had a pretty impressive spread. I wouldn't travel all the way to Keelung but luckily, there are a bunch of branches in Taipei!
