Volunteer Sew Day

Participanted in a sew day to give quilts to local families affected by recent tornados. I think we had nearly 80 people show up throughout the day.

Looking for a travel sewing machine bag pattern

So I got a new machine (woohoo!), and I want to join some groups near me that go to local quilt shops and the library to sew together (double woohoo!), but I don't have any kind of travel case for my machine (booooo).

Does anyone have a good pattern for a travel bag, preferably with wheels? Or a wheeled bag pattern that I could potentially adapt?

No idea how I'm going to quilt it yet, but I have a lot of piecing to do yet, so I've got time to think about it.

I do this for quilting! I know that several (if not most) have a qr code for the templates, so you can print them off at home or at the library!

As a former librarian I'm actually required to remind you that many libraries that subscribe to Libby are opted into a program that lets you subscribe and access magazines for free with no wait

And that this is actually a really fun, low cost way to not only access news and larger cultural magazines, but also to get free patterns for many different crafts that you can screenshot if need be and that lower the financial barriers to entry for trying new things

From my experience working in both academic and public libraries, many libraries are use it or lose it funding-- I have to say this because a lot of patrons feel guilty for how much they use the library and how often they're using it funny enough, but the worst thing you can do for libraries is not try out new features and not use what's already given to you as much as possible.

The numbers that come as a result of your patronage are how most libraries justify their continued existence in times of financial hardship, which sucks but, go check out some magazines on Libby!

Truly I hate to do this to you all but; you can watch all the videos and read all the blogs in the world but you cannot learn to sew without at some point picking up a piece of fabric and fucking it up. No tutorial exists that will stop you at some point ruining this poor piece of cloth. The visceral act of holding a project and wondering where you went wrong is the only way to learn sewing; you cannot escape it. I’m sorry
