2018/19 - Premier League - Fixture Two - Brighton 2-3 Manchester United (Martial x2, Lukaku, Zaracho, Propper) - The AMEX Stadium, Brighton
A pulsating game at the AMEX left Brighton fans reeling as the club came so very close to humbling one of the giants of the Premier League. Brighton boss Gamr had asked for a response following the lowkey defeat to Watford the previous week and he was delighted with his players here.
A constant thorn in Brighton’s side however was the impressive Anthony Martial, the speedy frenchman was unplayable in a game that ran at 100 miles an hour, coming out on top with two exquisite finishes.
Davy Propper and the increasingly influential Matias Zaracho pulled Brighton level but in his final game at the club Shane Duffy was blasted by Romelu Lukaku during a tussle the Irishman felt he should have won only for the Belgian juggernaut to smash past the flailing Ryan.
Throughout the game both goalkeepers kept their sides in it, De Gea unmovable and Ryan showing exactly why Gamr has placed so much faith in him, producing incredible saves.
Lukaku’s goal despite late Brighton’s heavy pressure decided the match and Brighton slumped to their second defeat in a week, with a trip to Anfield looming, there is already fears that Brighton’s faith in their young manager may have been misguided. Will they get any points from their first 3 games, in this most toughest of leagues.
The league table offers grim reading, although its nice to see Arsenal having a bad start!

2018/19 - Premier League - Fixture One - Watford 2-1 Brighton (Deulofeu, Chalobah, Mac Allister) - Vicarage Road, Watford
Brighton opened there account at Watford with in all honesty a bit of a pasting, the 2-1 score line flattered the side from the south coast but they were comprehensively outclassed.
Unbalanced with the loss of Matias Vargas, their manager Online Soccer Gamr went with Locadia and Hudson-Odoi up top before switching to Andone and Hudson Odoi moving to right wing back as is the norm with his style to play midfielders as overlapping full backs in the diamond formation.
Watford were just too strong and a wonderful goal from Nathaniel Chalobah sealed the victory. It wasn't all doom and gloom for the Seagulls as new young Argentine recruit Alexis Mac Allister shone brightly in the midfield, opening his account for Brighton during a tough and physical central battle.
Brighton will look to pick themselves up for the visit of Manchester United.

Disaster!
A bad week gets worse as Brighton’s star player Matias Vargas suffers a torn hamstring during the defeat to Marseille. With a minimum of 6 weeks on the sidelines Brighton will need to look to their young recruits in Geubbels and Hudson Odoi to assist Locadia and Andone to provide the goals.

Elimination!!!! Brighton and OnlineSoccerGamr taste their first defeat of the season on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw with French side Olympique de Marseille.  After a compelling game, Brighton simply fell apart with the final spot kicks, missing four of their five opportunities, Matt Ryan tried to keep his side in it but the lack of composure cost them dearly as Marseille progressed. After the game GamR stated “we lost to the better team, and despite the odd spark we felt really uncomfortable out there, they looked dangerous, we’ll need to address the fear that creeped into our game and come back stronger next time out”.

Brighton progress in the European International Cup preseason tournament in Germany.   Victories over Mainz, Stuttgart (2-1) and a tight 1-nil over Hoffenheim saw the Seagulls paired with southern France outfit Olympique de Marseille. The former European heavyweights still have a glittering lineup and will prove a test for the reorganised boys from Brighton.

Transfer News: Brighton break the bank for Matias Vargas as Online Soccer Gamr wrings the changes from his Sussex stronghold.
Brighton open the exit door to a huge amount of their key personnel from the previous season; Beram Kayal, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Solly March, Anthony Knockaert, Robert Sanchez, Soufyan Ahannach, Jose Izquierdo, Shane Duffy and former goalscoring hero Glenn Murray all leaving raising over £27m in transfer fees for the club.
New boss Gamr has indicated the club needs to move forwards and to do this “We have to make sacrifices, I've the full support of the board now is the moment to act, without this we would be where we were, which is nowhere”. Strong words from the new man only time will tell if his positivity bears fruit.
On the way into Brighton are left back Frank Fabra, defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria, Chelsea youngsters Callum Hudson Odoi and Ethan Ampadu, Rhian Brewster from Liverpool, Monaco 16 year old Willem Geubbels, Racing Club’s young attacking midfielder Matias Zaracho. Yari Verschaeren and veteran Argentine Gonzalo Castellani.
With the emphasis on youth, will these changes make enough difference to elevate Brighton from relegation favourites to a bonafide top ten Premier League club.

Brighton 5 - 0 Mainz - Goals from Propper x2, Gros, Andone, and Knockaert
Brighton manager Online Soccer Gamr tastes victory in his first game in charge at the Veltins Arena in Germany. Mainz provided very little threat as Brighton’s midfield dominated, Davy Propper scored twice as the Seagulls eased past their German opposition, whose flailing finishing cost them dearly and Brighton scooped their first win and three points.

Game 1 - Mainz vs Brighton - Team News:
Brighton manager Online Soccer Gamr has gone with his trusted 41212 (442 diamond) formation for the first game of his reign as the Seagulls manager. Starting with the two up top, the club’s talisman Glenn Murray is partnered by new signing Florin Andone. Making Murray captain for the first match, Gamr is sending a message that serve the club well and you get rewarded. Mercurial frenchman Anthony Knockaert starts in the pivotal central attacking role (CAM) ably supported by Fabian Gros and Davy Propper alongside Dale Stephens in his final performance before his move to Eintracht Frankfurt. The back four and keeper pick themselves Bernardo and Montoya flanking the defensive duo of Dunk and Duffy and the exceptional Matt Ryan between the posts. With so many players in new positions will Brighton gel against a tough and organised Mainz side?

Brighton sign their first wunderkind! Italian defensive midfielder Sandro Tonali joined the south coast club from Serie A Brescia for £9.5m.  Brighton boss Gamr reinvested the transfer fees from selling on experienced central midfielder Dale Stephens for £7m to Bundesliga cup winners Eintracht Frankfurt.  Gamr has been looking for a player with Tonali’s passing abilities and potential to elevate the Seagulls to a higher perch.

On the eve of the European International Cup, Brighton find themselves drawn against all German opposition in VFB Stuttgart, FSV Mainz, and TSG Hoffenheim. Reacting to the draw, Gamr suggested each was a potential banana skin but singled out Mainz and Hoffenheim for their fluid attacking style as a source of concern ahead of Brighton’s expected progress from Group A.

Talking Tactics
New Brighton boss OnlineSoccerGamr has shifted away from the club’s pragmatic and defensive 4-5-1 formation to a centrally solid 4-4-2 diamond. Gamr when pressed on the switch in preseason stated that the isolation of Glenn Murray in the previous season forced the team on the back foot, which constantly had to dig in. We are now looking to sting the opposition on the counter, and let Glenn and the attack strike back a little, adding “we’ve been too polite and respectful to our opponents and its time to ruffle a few feathers”

Brighton join Olympique de Marseille, Girona and a host of local clubs on a preseason tour of Germany. Brighton’s board are hoping that the newly appointed manager OnlineSoccerGamr can impose his trademark attacking brand of football on Brighton’s pragmatic squad, only time will tell if his methods will be effective. Issued with a demand to finish highly in the tournament, the pressure is already on the young manager to perform.
