Of Wind and Earth Part 4
The Ball Part 2
Cole x Reader
-------------------------------------------------
An hour had passed since the ball started.
People were dancing, socializing, eating, and laughing, but not y/n. Vania told her to stay on the balcony until it was time for the announcement, and it was almost time.
Y/n was shaking.
What if everything went wrong? What if people didn't take this well, and she had to go into hiding again? She didn't want to have to hide again. She liked her new friends. She didn't want to leave them.
"You doing all right?" A voice asked, snapping y/n out of her thoughts.
Y/n looked up from her sweaty palms, and saw Cole standing there. He looked into her eyes, waiting for an answer.
Y/n opened her mouth, but before she could say anything she burst into tears.
Cole was immediately at her side.
"I…" Y/n started.
"You're afraid that they'll never accept you. That you'll have to go back into hiding again. You're afraid of putting us in danger's way for your sake, and… above all you're afraid of proving them right," Cole stated.
Y/n looked into Cole's eyes completely shocked. It was as if he had read her like a book. They hadn't seen each other since they had arrived at Shintaro, but one thing y/n had noticed about him is that he always seemed to know how she was feeling.
Before y/n could open her mouth, Cole spoke again, "I know the past few years haven't been easy for you. You had to give up everything you loved to protect the ones you love. I know what it's like to be in a hopeless situation where you feel like no matter what you do, you'll never win, but you don't have to hide anymore y/n. You have us now, and you don't have to worry about putting us in danger. We willingly choose to put ourselves in danger almost on a daily basis. It's all part of being a ninja, and if you join us, you'll protect others the way we want to protect you. You're not alone anymore! And you're nothing like Morro. You're sweet, caring, and want what's best for others, just like any good person should. They'll all warm up to you eventually. You just have to show them who you really are."
Y/n blushed at the compliments Cole had given her. Why did he care so much?
"How… how do you know for sure that I won't end up exactly like my uncle did?" She sniffled.
"Because you don't seem to have the same thirst for power that he did," Cole responded.
"The wind blows both ways, Cole…" Y/n said.
"What do you mean?" Cole questioned.
"I control the wind.. but the wind can become so strong that it controls me. Sometimes it feels as if my powers are not my own and.. if I never learn to tame it…"
"I always believed Morro struggled with his powers in some way but could never quite put it into words," Wu said.
The two jumped not realizing Master Wu had been there.
"But if you claim your powers aren't tame," Wu continued. "Why did you never attack the hunters?"
"Huh?"
"It's never once been reported that anyone who has gone looking for you has ever been injured by your hand," Wu explained. "You had the opportunity to force them away. Why didn't you?"
Y/n pondered for a moment, then answered, "Because they're all just like me… People, probably with families, hoping to go back home and return to the ones they love."
"See! You could have gotten rid of them all, but you didn't. You have a good heart y/n," Cole said, wiping a tear from y/n's eye. "Your power doesn't define you; your uncle doesn't define you; all those people's opinions don't define you. Only you can determine who you'll be and what you'll do with the power you've been given."
"Why do you have so much faith in me?" Y/n asked.
"Well, you did kind of save me, and you've been nothing but nice ever since we brought you here. How could I not?," Cole answered.
"You may have the power of one who was once evil, y/n, but I have faith that you will be a great ninja someday and prove yourself worthy of their trust," Wu concluded as he walked back into the ballroom.
Cole took y/n's hand in his own.
"Now come on, let's show them the real y/n!" Cole said with a smile.
Y/n wiped the last tear from her eye and smiled back. She allowed Cole to lead her to the doors of the ballroom, but before they reached the door, y/n stopped.
"Cole…" she said timidly.
"Yeah?"
"Thank you"
-------------------------------------------------
Standing atop the ballroom's stairs, Y/n looked down to see all the people dancing and laughing, hoping that they would stay that way even after Vania made the announcement.
Cole gave her hand a small squeeze.
"Remember. You've got this," he reminded her.
Y/n smiled and gave a curt nod.
As they both descended the stairs, y/n started to think. It was strange… It had been awhile since anyone had been this nice to her. Cole was so sweet. She had to wonder if he was always this way.
She had to admit the gentleness he treated her with gave her butterflies, and the fact that he was now holding her hand didn't help. She hoped no one would notice the blush on her face.
Wait-
She didn't have a crush on him right? Is that what this was? She couldn't like someone she's barely met, could she?
"Y/n? Hello, earth to Y/n?" Vania said, snapping y/n out of her thoughts.
"Sorry… I was thinking," Y/n explained.
"It's fine," Vania answered. "But I'm about to give the speech, so try not to zone out again!"
Y/n giggled nervously, "I'll try not to."
Vania walked toward her throne. Y/n was about to follow her but then looked down and blushed when she realized her and Cole's hands were still intertwined.
"Uh… Cole?" She asked shyly.
Cole looked down as well. When he noticed they were still holding hands Vania's words went through his head.
Y/n is totally your type! …I'm sure she'd love a big strong man to take care of her!
Cole blushed and quickly let go.
"Oh, uh, sor-sorry, Y/n!"
"It's fine," she said timidly.
They stood there awkwardly for a moment before Y/n realized she was supposed to be near Vania. Without saying a word, she quickly walked toward Vania's throne.
Cole face-palmed.
Great job, Genius! He thought. I probably weirded her out! What in the world is happening to me? Stop thinking about what Vania said.
Once y/n reached Vania, Vania smiled and gave her a reassuring nod before starting her speech.
"Citizens of Shintaro and of lands beyond, thank you for coming to this incredibly important gathering. There is an elemental master here among us who has suffered great injustice due to the acts of her predecessor. We have gathered here today to show the world that she is not a monster as everyone believes and to accept her as she is. Shintaro welcomes her with open arms, and I decree that if anyone tries to hunt her within our borders, they will be held accountable. My fellow leaders, I hope you will pass the same law. We must take a stand for this innocent girl who has been hunted so long. Ladies and gentlemen, may I represent: y/n."
Y/n cautiously took a step forward, wary of the many eyes watching her. Some people applauded, others stayed quiet.
The distinguished leaders seemed to be discussing their thoughts. Some scoffed as others considered the possibility of accepting her, but none of them felt as though they could fully trust her.
Cole's voice rang through y/n's head.
You just have to show them who you really are.
"I...," y/n hesitated before speaking loudly and firmly. "I am a person just as much as any of you are. I am not out for power. All I want is to live my life freely. I want to be able to return to my family and tell them how much I love them without putting their lives in danger. I want to be more than prey for a bounty hunter."
Y/n's voice was beginning to shake as she held back her tears. She didn't want to go back to that life of always playing cat and mouse.
Cole felt the urge to run over to her. He wanted to protect her from all the judging eyes, but he knew she had to do this. This was a big step for her, and he was proud of her for finally taking a stand.
"I know you all think I'm a danger. I've been considered a deviant to society for so long that even I began to believe that I was a danger, but the truth of it is, I never want to harm anyone. I don't even want to entertain the idea of being anything like Morro… I no longer want to live in fear because people think I am exactly as he was. I am more than his evil acts. So please..." Y/n pleaded. "Please let me return to being able to live a normal life. To live life and grow old with the people I love... Just like anyone else should... Please..."
At first... the room was silent. A tear or two rolled down y/n's face. Her ears began to ring as everyone stared at her. Had she made a mistake? Would they not accept her? Should she not have said anything?
Then many people began to clap. A few of the dignitaries rolled their eyes and turned their noses up as they began to leave, but the ones that stayed began discussing again, seeming to agree.
"I don't know about any of my fellow leaders, but I believe that you speak the truth, Miss Y/n. You will have a safe place in the Cloud Kingdom," one dignitary assured.
"And in Ninjago City," said another.
Many more of the dignified guests gave their approval and well wishes to Y/n.
Cole stood there grinning like an idiot. He was so proud of her. She was finally going to be safe… for the most part at least.
Great job, Y/n…
He thought to himself.
While everyone acknowledged y/n and the leaders from other places, no one noticed the people slowly making their way towards the throne. Twelve people surrounded the throne so there was no escape. Multiple others barred and guarded the doors so no one else could escape.
Suddenly, P.I.X.A.L. spoke up on everyone's communicators.
"Ninja, we have a problem."
Just then, the ringleader of the group spoke to grab everyone's attention.
"Well, that was a mighty fine touching speech you just gave there, y/n, but I'm afraid no one is leaving here until I get my bounty."
"Y/n, watch out!" Cole cried out.
Then there was a loud bang, and it all went dark.

Of Wind and Earth Part 3
The Ball
Cole x Reader
-------------------------------------------------
After a short journey and a bumpy landing, the ninja had finally made it back to Shintaro with y/n. They all made their way to the palace.
Y/n looked all around her. Everything was absolutely beautiful. She had seen Shintaro from a distance, but she had never imagined it could be this beautiful. When they entered the castle she was in complete awe. Everything from the decor to the pristine walls to the smooth floor was stunning. Y/n didn't think she had ever seen a place that seemed so… perfect.
A girl's excited call snapped y/n out of her daze.
"Did you find her?" the girl asked.
"Yes, we did," Wu responded. "Y/n, this is Princess Vania, ruler of Shintaro and the one who asked us to find you. Princess Vania, this is y/n, master of wind."
"It's an honor to meet you, Your Highness," y/n said while dipping into a very messy curtsey.
"No need for curtseying," Vania giggled. "It's lovely to meet you too! Do you like dragons? That's my dragon, Chompy. He's super sweet!"
Y/n nervously stared at the dragon. She had never seen one before. If it was the princess's pet then it was bound to be tame, right?
"No need to be afraid! Chompy wouldn't hurt a fly," Vania said kindly.
She then walked to where Cole was standing. She smiled at him warmly and asked, "Did everything go smoothly?"
Cole suddenly became very nervous.
"Uh, um, yeah! T-totally! I mean we were, uh, chased by hunters, but we handled it, yeah."
He quickly looked away while everyone stared at him.
That's odd. Y/n thought to herself. I didn't think of Cole as the nervous type.
"What's up with him?" Jay whispered to Kai.
Kai only shrugged.
"Vania, now that we have rescued y/n, what shall we do?" Zane asked. "We can train her to defend herself, but we cannot prevent people from hunting her."
Vania thought for a moment.
"Oh, I know! We can raise awareness so people will know not to hunt her anymore!"
"But how will we do that?" P.I.X.A.L. questioned.
"A party!" Vania exclaimed.
"A party?!" All the ninja said in unison.
-------------------------------------------------
"I still don't see how a party is going to change things," Kai said.
It had been two days now since the ninja had rescued y/n, and now they were setting up decorations in the ballroom.
"It is customary of royals to host things such as a ball to make big announcements or celebrate a big event, Kai," Zane explained.
"But will anyone actually care about what Vania is going to say?" Cole asked. "I don't think people are going to stop just like that."
"Yeah, Cole's right," Jay chimed in. "Just because we ask people not to hunt or be afraid of y/n doesn't mean they'll stop."
"We can only hope that the people of Shintaro and the delegates from the other kingdoms will choose to leave her alone," Zane stated.
"Well, even if it doesn't work out at least it will be fun!" Jay exclaimed. "I can't wait to dance with Nya!"
"Speaking of which, where are the girls?" Kai asked.
"Vania and Nya are helping y/n get ready for tonight," Cole replied.
"And P.I.X.A.L. went with Lloyd and Master Wu to pick up Skylor," Zane added.
"Skylor's coming!?" Kai asked in an excited manner. "I- I mean uh, Skylor is coming?"
"Yes, we thought it would be best for another elemental master to be here both to protect and to show support for y/n," Zane said.
"And we thought you wouldn't be as difficult about wearing formal wear if she was here, Kai," Cole smirked.
"Whatever," Kai rolled his eyes.
"Since we're on the topic of girls, why do you get so nervous around Vania now Cole?" Jay asked. "I don't think I've ever seen you act this way before."
"Yeah, you didn't even ask about the cake after we had introduced Vania to y/n," Kai said thoughtfully.
Cole sighed. Should he tell them? Would his friends judge him for the way he was feeling? Jay had only joked about him being king one day… but now he couldn't stop thinking about it. If he was being honest, he really didn't want to be a king, but he also didn't want to hurt Vania.
Sure, they had never made things official, but they were both aware of each other's feelings. What was he going to do?
"Hello, earth to Cole," Kai said, waving his hand in front of Cole's face.
Cole jumped.
"Woah, dude, chill," Kai laughed.
"Are you all right, Cole?" Zane questioned. "You've been a bit distant since we rescued y/n. Is everything okay?"
"I don't think I can be with Vania," Cole asked.
"Why not?" Jay asked. "You two seem to really like each other?"
"I don't want to be king!" Cole cried. "I can't lead a nation! I'm a ninja."
"Woah, is what Jay said really bothering you that much?" Kai inquired.
"Yes…" Cole responded, clearly frustrated with his predicament. "I know we've never been an official thing, but how do I tell her? It'll be so awkward. Leading her on would be wrong but… breaking her heart feels wrong too."
"I believe the right thing to do is tell her, Cole," Zane stated. "It would indeed be wrong of you to lead her on, and nothing can be resolved if you don't say anything."
"But what if she hates me...?" Cole asked sadly.
Kai, Jay, and Zane all looked at each other and smiled.
"She won't hate you," Jay said with an assuring smile.
"She clearly likes you a lot, Cole, and would probably be very happy to remain as friends," Zane added.
"Yeah, and no matter what happens…" Kai put his hand on Cole's shoulder. "We've got your back!"
Cole looked at the three other ninja and smiled. "Thanks, guys. You're the best."
"That's what brothers are for," Zane said.
-------------------------------------------------
"Ow!" Y/n shouted.
"Sorry!" Nya said quickly.
"No, it's fine," y/n responded. "It's my own fault for not taking better care of my hair."
It had been two days since y/n had been rescued. What has she been doing over the past few days? Trying to get all the knots and tangles out of her hair. They were getting close to completely detangling the nightmare growing on her head, but it had been a very long process.
"Don't blame yourself," Princess Vania said as she walked into the room. "It's not your fault you've had to go so long without the proper materials to take care of your hair."
"Oh, you're back!" Y/n said cheerfully.
"Have the tailors finished our dresses yet?" Nya asked. She cringed upon saying the word dress. She had never been a huge fan of dressing up, but this was for y/n, so she supposed she wouldn't complain just this once.
Nya and y/n had actually become very close over the past few days. Nya was excited to hopefully have another girl on the team, and y/n was excited for their now forming friendship. They both shared elements that the first spinjitzu master had never possessed. They had gotten their powers from Wojira. Somehow that gave them a connection that neither of them could quite describe, but they were happy about it despite the fact.
"They said they'll be finished in a half hour!" Vania replied excitedly.
"And when does the ball start?" Y/n asked.
"Guests will start arriving at 5:30," Vania responded.
"You look nervous, y/n," Nya pointed out.
"Heh, sorry, it's just…"
Y/n paused for a moment and stared at the floor.
"What if this doesn't work? What if they never accept me, and people still hunt me down?"
Nya and Vania looked at each other then faced y/n once again.
"You don't have to worry about that, y/n," Vania said. "I mean it's understandable to be worried in your situation, but don't be!"
"No matter what happens, we've got your back," Nya said with a confident smile.
Y/n looked at both of them then got up out of the chair she had been sitting in. Quickly, she pulled both Vania and Nya into a hug. They had been so kind to her even though just two days ago she was a complete stranger. They didn't seem to mind that she was the elemental master of wind. They accepted her as she was, and now they were trying to free her from a burden she'd been carrying for far too long.
"Thank you so much… for everything!"
"Anytime!" Nya said.
Vania nodded in agreement.
"Oh, the time sure flew by fast!" Vania said. "Time for me to pick up the dresses. Be right back!"
"All right," Nya said.
Vania exited the room, and Nya returned to helping y/n deal with her hair.
-------------------------------------------------
Ding
The large grandfather clock started to chime.
Ding
Guests were now starting to arrive.
Ding
And well, both Cole and y/n were both losing their minds.
Most of the ninja were now sitting in a room, all dressed in formal wear. Skylor had arrived an hour earlier. She and Kai were sitting in a corner, and Kai couldn't stop fawning over how beautiful she looked in her dress. Her dress was a light teal color that faded into orange and red at the bottom of the skirt. The top was strapless, and the entire dress was covered in glitter.
Jay and Zane were talking about new mech designs, and Lloyd kept complaining about how uncomfortable his suit was.
"Why can't I just wear my gi?" He complained.
"Because this is a formal event, Lloyd," Skylor said. "Even Nya is going to be wearing a dress, and she hates dresses."
While they continued their discussion on clothing, Cole stood in his own corner, deep in thought.
"What's troubling you, Cole?" Sensei Wu asked. He was the only one who wasn't wearing a suit. Instead he was wearing his normal clothes. How he managed to pull that off, no one really knew, but then again, he's Sensei Wu. He can do pretty much anything.
"I'm fine, Master," Cole replied. "Just thinking."
"You're trying to think of a way to let Vania down easy, correct?" Wu inquired.
"How did you-"
"I was young once too remember."
"Do you have any wisdom for me?"
"No, love is a tricky thing, and no wisdom I could ever impart would solve all its mysteries or give you complete clarity."
Cole sighed in defeat.
"However," Master Wu continued. "No matter what the outcome, remember that you're preventing something that could potentially harm any relationship with Vania you might have had in the future. The princess is reasonable. I believe she will take it well. She knows you are kind and want what is best."
Cole smiled.
"Thank you, Master Wu."
"Of course," Wu replied.
Sensei Wu walked back to where the others were now having a conversation about strategies for anything bad that could happen during the ball.
"But how can we prevent any attacks if we're restricted by what we're wearing?" Lloyd asked.
"I have hidden weapons and our gis in the ballroom in case the need should arrive," Zane said.
"Good thinking, Zane," Wu complimented.
Kai knocked on the door where Nya, P.I.X.A.L., and y/n were still getting ready.
"Are you guys done yet? Vania is probably waiting for us," he said in a half irritated tone. In all reality, he was just eager to spend time with Skylor away from the others.
"Almost," Nya replied from the other side of the door. "We're finishing y/n's hair."
Not long after, P.I.X.A.L. walked out of the room. She wore a shiny, light purple dress. It had only one long sleeve, and the other half was sleeveless. It complimented her shiny, silver hair and her metallic skin tone perfectly. The skirt of the dress reached the floor, and there was a slit on the side from the knee down.
Zane walked over to P.I.X.A.L.
"You look wonderful," he said with a grin.
"Thank you," P.I.X.A.L. said smiling back. "The other two will be out shortly."
Nya was the next to walk out. Her dress was every color blue imaginable with white accents. It looked as if she were completely enveloped in the ocean's waves. Her dress had long, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a long mesh sparkly white cape was attached to the back of her dress.
Jay's jaw dropped. He was at a complete loss for words.
How did I get so lucky to have someone this beautiful as my yang? He wondered.
Nya giggled, noticing Jay's loss for words. She simply walked over to him and kissed his cheek.
"All right, y/n, you're in turn," Nya called out.
Y/n took a deep breath and walked out shyly. Her dress was a very dark green color. Layers of dark purple mesh went over the skirt and formed a slit near the center revealing the green underneath. She wore black corset, and her mesh open-sleeves draped down at least half of her dress. Around her neck she wore a golden necklace that Vania had specifically made for her. The charm on it was the symbol for wind. Vania had told her to wear it proudly.
Cole felt his face heat up at the sight of y/n. What the heck, Cole?! Snap out of it.
He mentally scolded himself. This was the first time he had seen y/n again in two days, and she looked very different. Her hair was no longer in tangles. She was no longer covered in mud and dressed in tattered clothing. Above all, there was no longer a shadow cast over her face from the hooded cloak she had been wearing before. This was the first time he felt that he was really seeing her face, and she was… beautiful.
"You look lovely, Y/n," Master Wu said, snapping Cole out of his thoughts.
"Thank you, Sensei Wu," y/n responded timidly.
Just then, Vania came into the room.
"Are you all ready yet?" She asked. "Guests are arriving."
"Yes, we are all ready, Princess," Wu replied, offering y/n his arm. "Shall we?"
Y/n gave a shy smile and nodded. She took his arm and then went out the door.
Everyone else followed them except for Cole.
"Vania, before we go to the ballroom, can we talk?" he asked in a serious tone.
"Yes, actually, there's something I've been meaning to tell you!" She said.
"Oh, well then, you go first."
"Y/n is totally your type!"
"Ye- I- wait what?!"
Vania giggled.
"She's shy, kind, beautiful, caring, and would probably like someone big and strong to take care of her!"
"But- I thought-"
"I knew from the very beginning that we probably wouldn't work out, Cole, because I'm a princess," Vania gave him a reassuring smile. "But it's okay! I'm happy with us just being friends! You're a great guy, Cole."
Relief washed over Cole.
"Thank you, Vania," he immediately said. "I've been trying to think of a way to tell you that we probably wouldn't work out. I just didn't know how."
"Anytime! That's what friends are for!" Vania said, now pulling Cole into a hug.
"Should we head to the ballroom now?" Vania asked.
"Yeah, we probably-" Cole paused for a moment. "Wait a minute what were you saying about y/n being my-"
"Uh, race you to the ballroom!" Vania exclaimed.
"Hey! Wait up!" Cole cried, running after her.
Now that things were set right between Cole and Vania, they could both enjoy the ball and focus on what the night was really about: Y/n.

A/n: Well, that happened. Sorry these take so long to write! I try my best to make them feel just like episodes of Ninjago. I know they're probably not anything like a Ninjago episode, but I try <3
Also, hopefully the dress descriptions weren't too confusing. Describing the images I have in my head can be a hassle. I thought about drawing them, but I'm not much of an artist so that probably wouldn't work very well.
Thanks for reading! <3

Of Wind and Earth Part 2
Chased
Cole x Reader
-------------------------------------------------
"Who are you?" Cole asked.
He started to get up, but as he did, y/n began to back away.
"W-wait! No, I'm not gonna hurt you," Cole started, but he was quickly interrupted by his friends who had now found their way down the cliff.
Y/n stopped moving and watched them curiously.
"Thank the first spinjitzu master!" Wu exclaimed.
"Cole, are you okay?" Lloyd asked, putting his hand on Cole's shoulder.
Cole didn't answer. His gaze stayed on y/n. The ninja all looked to see what he was staring at.
All of the mysterious girl's features matched up with the features Zane and P.I.X.A.L. had previously described.
H/l, h/c hair?
Check.
E/c eyes?
Check.
S/c skin?
Check.
It all matched up.
Jay was the first to speak.
"Holy Morro's ghost! You're the master of wind!" He exclaimed.
Once again, y/n started to slowly back away. These people seemed different from the ones who had chased her before. They didn't seem like hunters at all. They were...different, but what if that's what they wanted her to think. Was all of this a trap? A calm voice broke y/n from her thoughts.
"It's okay…" Cole said softly. "We're not here to hurt you."
"Yeah, we're here to help," Lloyd stated, now analyzing the timid girl in front of them.
She wore a simple dark purple T-shirt that was tucked into her black leggings. On her feet, she wore a pair of lace-up brown boots, and to top it all off, she wore a black cape with little golden designs embroidered into it.
Y/n stood there in silence. She wasn't sure whether or not she could trust these people. That was until she saw the boy that she had just saved used elemental powers to force a small mound of rocks to come up out of the earth. Elemental powers... they were just like her.
Cole walked up to y/n.
"I'm Cole. What's your name?" He asked with a smile.
"Y/n," she answered quietly.
"A beautiful name," Master Wu complimented. "It's nice to finally meet you. I am Sensei Wu. We have come to save you from the hunters."
"You'll be safe with us. If those hunters even try to attack you, they won't know what hit 'em," Kai said with a smirk. "Anyways, I'm Kai, master of fire, and the hottest ninja ever."
"Keep dreaming, brother," Nya sighed and shook her head. "I'm Nya, master of water."
"And I'm Lloyd, master of power," Lloyd said. "And that guy over there is Jay, master of lightning."
"More like: master of obvious remarks," Kai commented.
"Excuse me, Master of Hair Gel, but I-"
"This is no way to act around our new friend," Zane said, cutting Jay off. "She's scared and untrusting enough as it is."
Zane then turned to y/n.
"Hello, I am Zane, the master of ice, and this is P.I.X.A.L. my significant other."
"Oo! And Cole is master of earth!" Jay exclaimed.
Everyone looked at Jay.
"What?" Jay asked. "No one had mentioned that yet."
Kai facepalmed.
"I think she got that from his display, Captain Obvious," he stated.
Y/n giggled a little. This certainly wasn't what she expected. She thought she'd be chased halfway across the forest by now and have to find a new hiding spot, but here was a group of elemental masters that wanted to save her. They were strangely dressed, but she was thankful nonetheless.
"Please, head back to Shintaro with us. The sooner we get back, the safer you will be," Master Wu said.
"It's a long journey to reach Shintaro from here if we travel on foot," Y/n said. "If I'm seen with you it will put you all in danger as well. The hunters are treacherous and will stop at nothing to get their bounty."
"Like I said, we're ninja! They'll never know what hit 'em," Kai reiterated proudly.
"And we won't have to walk far," Nya added. "Our ship, the Destiny's Bounty, isn't too far from here."
"A ship?" Y/n asked, clearly confused. "How did you get a ship into the forest? I didn't think there were any rivers around here big enough to transport a ship."
"Eh, it's a flying ship," Cole explained.
"Ships can fly?" Y/n questioned.
"I think you've been in this forest way too long," Kai said.
"Please, tell me you at least know what video games are," Jay said worriedly.
"Yes, I know what video games are," Y/n giggled. "I haven't been away from society for that long."
Jay sighed in relief.
"If you don't mind me asking, you've only been here three years correct? Why is it that you don't recognize us?" Zane questioned.
"Yeah, we've been saving Ninjago for far longer than that and have made our fair share of stops in Jamanakai Village with the Bounty," Kai said.
Y/n cringed at that word. Bounty… the thing that made the hunters endlessly try to hunt her down.
"He means our ship," Cole stated as if reading her mind. "Not the bounty you're thinking of."
Y/n gave him a small smile.
"Perhaps, we should start moving before y/n gives us her explanation," P.I.X.A.L. said. "I'd prefer to get back to Shintaro before nightfall."
"A wise idea," Wu replied. "Come along, we have quite a bit of a walk before we reach the Bounty."
All the ninja followed Master Wu as he made his way back up the cliff.
Y/n was hesitant to follow. Could she really trust them? They could have captured her by now, but they haven't. They wouldn't hurt her right?
Cole noticed that y/n wasn't following them. He went back to her and gazed into her deep, e/c eyes.
"Well, y/n, are you in or out?" he asked, now holding out his hand.
Y/n thought for another moment more.
"I'm in," she replied.
She took Cole's hand, and they made their way up the cliff together.
-------------------------------------------------
"Ugh… we've been walking forever!" Jay complained. "Are you sure we're going the right way?"
"I am 98.5% certain that this is the correct way back," P.I.X.A.L. replied.
"Since we haven't made it there yet, Y/n, you never answered Zane's question," Kai said.
Y/n sighed.
"Are you sure you want to hear my answer?" she asked. "It's not exactly an exciting explanation."
"Beats walking in the middle of nowhere in silence," Cole said.
"Well… I grew as what you might call… a sheltered child," y/n began. "My mom was a loving, caring person who only ever wanted the best for me and my sisters. She wanted to protect us from things of the outside world… the dangers happening around us. The news was never on, and no one ever read the newspaper, so my siblings and I knew little of anything going on outside. I didn't have many friends, so I had no reason to be out. Sure, we might have heard bits and pieces of things going on but thought nothing of them. We were taught to be content in our home and not to be involved in the outside world."
"So you didn't know who we were because you were so sheltered?" Kai asked.
"Pretty much, yeah," y/n said with a sigh.
"Sounds kind of nice, actually, not having to worry about all of Ninjago's problems," Jay commented. "What happened?"
"My mother always thought that all the danger was outside of our home," y/n said. "Little did she know that the real danger was me."
"How so?" Zane asked.
"As I said, I never really went out," y/n continued. "Until one day, I had a fight with my sister so I decided to take a walk to clear my head. On my way back to my house, I saw a teenage boy beating up another boy in an alleyway. I could have just walked away. I could have done nothing. I could have listened to my mother and not gotten involved, but… the boy being beaten up looked at me… his eyes pleading for help. It was at that moment that I realized that I was tired of being complacent. I wanted to help. I wanted to be free. Everything that happened after that was a blur. There was a bright light and a large gust of wind. The next thing I knew the bully was lying on the ground, and the other boy looked at me with fear in his eyes."
"So, you reached your true potential when you realized being complacent was only holding you back," Sensei Wu stated.
Y/n nodded.
"After the whole ordeal went down, I started to train myself to use the elemental gift I had been given. I could only control small gusts of wind at first, but it was so… freeing. Unbeknownst to me, both boys had spread rumors about my connection to the wind. I found out the day a mob of angry people came to our door. They had heard of what went down at Styx with my Uncle Morro. The villagers were afraid that I would only bring destruction and chaos and-"
"Hold up, hold up, wait a minute," Jay interrupted. "Did you say UNCLE Morro?"
"Yes," y/n said. "He and my mom were brother and sister. They were both orphans on the streets until Master Wu took Morro in. He would sneak out to bring food to my mother until she was old enough to get a job. One day, he just disappeared. My mom was heartbroken, and now refuses to even speak of him. He was gone before I was even born so I never got to meet him."
"So, you're Morro's niece?" Kai asked. "Wow, I did not see that one coming."
"Everyone quiet down," Zane said suddenly. "I sense that we are not alone."
Everyone was quiet for a moment. They looked around them to see if they could spot anyone.
"I don't hear anything-" Kai was quickly cut off by an arrow that zipped past his head.
"Okay, that was definitely something! Run!"
"Get them!" A voice cried out. "Do what you will with the others, but keep the girl alive. That bounty will be mine."
"Hurry! The Bounty is not far from here!" P.I.X.A.L. shouted.
The ninja and y/n ran as fast as they could.
"Uh, guys, they're gaining on us!" Kai panicked.
"Well then, it's time we do something about it," Cole said.
He turned around and started running towards the group of hunters chasing them. He jumped and then hit the ground which caused multiple large stones to rise out of the earth that now blocked the hunters from getting past.
Y/n stood in shock for a moment. She'd done some pretty cool things with her elemental powers in the past, but nothing like that.
Cole ran back to her.
"Hurry, that won't hold them for long," he said.
Y/n nodded, and they both started running again to catch up with the others.
"There's the bounty!" Jay yelled excitedly.
"And there's the hunters!" Kai shouted.
The ninja and y/n quickly scurried onto the Bounty.
"Start her up, P.I.X." Lloyd said.
The Bounty lifted off of the ground. Y/n seemed a little scared about the idea of a boat flying so Lloyd gave her a friendly smile and said, "Don't worry! We fly all the time. It's perfectly safe."
Just then the Bounty started to falter.
"You just had to jinx it!" Jay screamed.
"What happened?" Lloyd asked.
"Why do people always feel the need to take out the thrusters?!" Nya grumbled.
"It's only one. Can't we fly without it?"
"Not if you want to escape quickly. They could shoot the other thruster at any moment."
"The best course of action would be to land," Zane said. "The Bounty isn't stable."
"But we have to escape!" Cole said.
"Just land and hand me over to them," y/n spoke up. "You all shouldn't get hurt for my sake."
"No, that's out of the question," Cole replied firmly. "We told you we would get you out of this mess and that's exactly what we're gonna do."
"But how?" Jay asked.
It was too late for anyone to respond. The hunters shot the other thruster and Destiny's Bounty immediately started plummeting to the ground.
"Why does this always happen to us!?" Jay screamed.
"Y/n can you do something?" Kai asked hurriedly.
"I… I could barely keep Cole in the air for more than a few seconds, and you're asking me to lift a heavy ship!?" Y/n questioned, quite freak out about her current situation.
"Please, at least try, y/n; you may be our only hope," Wu said.
They were close to the ground now. Y/n thought for a second. Either she could try and they all could live, or they would crash and possibly all die.
Y/n knew what she had to do. She made her way to a railing near the edge of the Bounty to keep her as grounded as possible. Then she closed her eyes and focused. She had to do this. They had risked so much for her already, and it would be all for nothing if they all died here. But what if she couldn't. What if she… No. She would save them. All of them.
Out of nowhere, there was a large gust of wind and the bounty was still. Y/n was afraid to open her eyes. Had she done it?
"Woah…" Kai said.
"We're alive!" Jay exclaimed.
"You can open your eyes, y/n," Cole said.
Y/n did so, but she was surprised to see what she had done. She had meant to only slow their fall, but she had somehow kept them in the air. How had she done this?
"How long will you be able to hold us up," Lloyd asked.
"I'm not sure," was y/n's response.
"We aren't far from the palace," Zane stated. "Do you think you will be able to keep us like this until then?"
"I can try," y/n said.
"To Princess Vania then?" Lloyd asked.
"Yes, to Princess Vania," Wu replied with a smile.
All the ninja cheered. They had survived!
Cole gave y/n a smile.
"I knew you could do it."

A/n: I can't believe how many of you actually read the first part of this fic! What's more surprising to me is that people actually liked it. Thank you so much! Hope you enjoyed this second part! I know it may not be as good as the first, but I thought having y/n's backstory early on would be better so I don't have to worry about it later. Be ready for some Vania and Cole drama in the next one. Until next time!!!<3

Of Wind and Earth: Part 1
Taken In
Cole x Reader -------------------------------------------------
"What a beautiful day!" Nya remarked.
"Indeed," Zane replied, "I enjoy days such as this when we can simply enjoy the weather."
"Yeah, too bad we can't just relax instead of going to Shintaro." Kai said as he laid out a blanket.
"What are you doing?" Nya asked, giving her brother a questioning look.
After lying down putting his sunglasses on, akqi responded,"Hey, might as well sunbathe while I can."
"On the deck of the Bounty?" Zane questioned.
"Well, duh," said Kai in a matter-of-factly tone.
"Uh, why wouldn't you want to visit Shintaro, Kai? It's literally the most beautiful place ever! Not as pretty as Nya is of course, but-" Jay rambled.
Nya only rolled her eyes and giggled at his sudden compliment.
"My only question is: why are we going to Shintaro?" Cole asked. "I'm always happy to see Princess Vania again, but Master Wu hasn't said anything about why we're going."
The ninja stood in silence for a moment pondering what Cole had said. Master Wu had kept details from them in the past, but it never kept them from wondering what was really happening. Jay was about to open his mouth just as Master Wu appeared.
"The reason, I do not know," he said looking around at the ninja that he now had the attention of. "Princess Vania simply asked us to come because she needed help, so help her we must."
"I hope she isn't in any danger," Jay said.
"I hope not either," Cole responded in a worried tone.
"Well, that's only because you like her," Jay remarked.
Kai laughed while Zane and Nya simply smiled and gave each other knowing looks.
"Yeah- Yeah, well, you like Nya! You'd be worried to if she asked for help without give any details!" Cole argued back.
"All right, all right, that's enough you two," Nya said stifling a giggle.
Jay smirked as Cole crossed his arms and mumbled under his breath.
"We are nearing Shintaro; prepare for landing," everyone heard P.I.X.A.L. say.
After they had landed, the ninja made their way to the castle still wondering why they had been summoned.
"Do you think it's the skull sorcerer again?" Jay asked. "Or maybe Pythor? Oo! Oo! Or Garmadon? We haven't seen him in awhile. Or maybe it's-"
"Okay, Jay, we get it. It could be anyone or anything, so be on guard everyone," Lloyd said as they entered the palace.
As they entered they were greeted with the same awe they had felt the first time they entered the palace of Shintaro. The pristine walls gleamed. The decor looked flawless. The guards looked majestic as ever, and a sweet aroma filled the air.
"Is- Is that cake?" Cole asked in an excited manner.
"Yes, it is!" Vania responded happily from her throne as they walked into the throne room. "I asked the chefs to make it as a thank you gift for coming on such short notice."
"Cake is always appreciated in my book," Cole said staring at the beautiful chocolate cake displayed on a table near Vania's throne.
"Yes, we all appreciate it, Princess," Zane remarked. "But why is it that you have called us here?"
"Yeah, what's going on?" Jay asked.
"Well, you see…" Vania started. "Outside of the walls of Shintaro there are woods, and there has been a large number of hunter activity recently."
"Too many hunters? Doesn't seem like such a big deal. Sure, it could cause a food shortage, but not exactly sure why you called us here for that," Kai said.
Nya glared and elbowed Kai.
"Ow! Hey! I'm just saying! It's not exactly a ninja's job to take care of a few too many hunters." Kai whined.
Zane thought for a moment then wondered, "would it not have been wiser to just make laws against them hunting?"
"It's not what they're hunting that I'm worried about," Vania continued. "It's who."
The ninja all look at each other with a mix of both worried and questioning expressions.
"What exactly do you mean, Princess?" Lloyed asked. "Who are they hunting?"
"Rumors have been going around that an elemental master has been seen in those woods, and there is a large bounty for whoever catches them," Vania explained.
"But what could they possibly want with an elemental master?" Cole questioned.
"It's because of their power," Vania stated
"Curious..." Wu pondered. "What power does this elemental master hold that would make people want to hunt them down?"
"It's said that this person that they are hunting is the new master of wind," Vania responded.
"WHAT?!" The ninja exclaimed all at once.
"But how can that be?" Lloyd asked.
Wu turned to the side and stroked his beard, now thinking about the information they were just given.
"You have all inherited elemental powers from previous masters, and now it seems someone new has been chosen to be the master of wind," Wu said in a half-worried tone.
"What troubles you master?" Zane asked quickly.
"They are hunting this person because they believe her to be like Morro, correct?" Wu wondered turning back to face Vania.
She simply nodded, and with a determined look, Wu said, "Then we have not a moment to lose. Let us find this new master of wind. I fear what will happen if these hunters find them first."
"Woah, woah, woah, this person could be dangerous like Morro was!" Jay exclaimed. "Maybe we should think this through a little more before just running off into the woods and looking for this person!"
"Do we even know what this person looks like?" Kai asked.
"No one knows what they look like, but anyone who has caught sight of them say that they wore a black cloak to cover their features," said Vania as she descended the stairs that elevated her throne. "I'm not sure who this person is, but as far as I know it could be a young child fleeing for their life, alone and scared. I don't believe having the power of wind makes them exactly like the master of wind you faced in the past, but they could still be dangerous. Please, be careful ninja."
"Don't worry. We will be," Lloyd assured her.
"Rescuing those in need is our job after all," Zane stated.
"Yeah! And when we come back we can eat some of that cake," Cole said with a dreamy look in his eyes.
All the ninja rolled their eyes and Vania giggled, "Good luck ninja."
-------------------------------------------------
Y/n sat up from her resting place. It had been just her for a while now. She had left her home to protect her friends and family. After y/n had stumbled upon the woods outside of Shintaro, she had lived peacefully until one fateful day when a man had caught her using her elemental powers to free an animal caught up in a tree. The rumors spread quickly of her whereabouts, and she had no choice but to hide herself. Once, after being chased, she had stumbled upon a part of the forest shielded by brambles. It wasn't easy to get through. The brambles had given her quite a few scratches and pulled a few strands of her beautiful h/l, h/c hair. Within her new found hiding place, she discovered fresh water and wild berries. It was surrounded by small cliffs on all sides and hidden in a canopy of trees and brambles. So now this was the place she called home. It was the perfect hiding spot. She didn't quite know how to build a shack, but there was a small cave in one of the cliffs that provided enough shelter to keep her protected, dry, and warm. She sometimes still had to go out to get more food which quite often ended in being chased, but she had accepted that this was her life now. Alone in the woods.
Y/n sat for a moment and thought about her life. Why were people after her and not all the other elemental masters? Was she dangerous? Had she done something wrong?
Suddenly voices were heard atop the cliff. Y/n stayed in the cave, ready to fight anyone who came close.
Had they found her?
-------------------------------------------------
"But we've been walking around aimlessly for two hours!" Jay complained. "I'm hungry and tired."
"Suck it up, Jay," Kai said. "You've suffered worse. Finding this person could be one of the most important things we do. If we train them right then they won't end up like Morro did."
Everyone went silent and shuttered. Sure, Morro had helped them once in the past on the Day of the Departed, but they never wanted to have to fight him or anyone like him ever again.
"Zane," Nya broke the silence. "Have you found any intel on who this person might be."
"I have searched for multiple articles in my systems, but I have not found much of anything that will be of use to us," Zane said.
"I have had the same struggles with my search for information as well," P.I.X.A.L. added.
"Well, what do you know?" Cole asked.
Zane and P.I.X.A.L looked at each other a moment and then nodded.
Zane started, "Three years ago, a girl from Jamanakai village found her true potential as the master of wind. No one really knew her, but they feared what would happen if she grew stronger. No one wanted the same outcome as what had happened in Styx."
"So people decided to take matters into their own hands," P.I.X.A.L. continued. "They went to her house and demanded that her family hand her over, but they refused. The girl escaped, and her family and friends refuse to give any information on her."
"So is there anything about what she looks like?" Lloyd asked.
"Well she has s/c skin; h/l, h/c hair; and e/c eyes," Zane replied.
"But that's all we know," P.I.X.A.L. added.
Suddenly Jay burst into laughter. Everyone looked back and stared at him questioningly.
"Uh, Jay, what's so funny?" Nya asked.
Jay was about to respond but only started laughing harder.
"Is something about this girl's story amusing to you?" Wu questioned.
"No, no it's not that it's just-" Jay laughed a little more. "Cole could end up being king one day."
Once again Jay burst into a fit of laughter.
"A king? Why?" Lloyd asked.
"Because if he and Vania get married then he'll be the royal black ninja king," Jay said, giggling in between each word.
"I guess I've never thought about that before…" Cole said, now going into deep thought.
"I don't see how this is amusing," Zane stated bluntly.
"Because!" Jay shouted. "Can you imagine Cole as a king with a fancy crown, fancy suits, and fancy parties?"
All of the ninja except for Cole started to giggle a little.
"I guess it's hard to imagine," Nya responded. "I've never thought Cole to be the fancy type."
"Yeah, especially since he ran away from the fancy dancing life his dad wanted for him," Kai added.
Cole remained quiet. Would being royal mean he would stop having to be a ninja? Would his life become nothing more than fancy parties and clothes? Would he be good at leading a kingdom or would he completely wreck everything?
"Cole, watch out!" P.I.X.A.L. shouted, but it was too late.
Cole hadn't seen the edge of the cliff that he was now falling off of. He had fallen from high places in Shintaro before, but this time there was no way to escape. Nothing he could hold on too. Would his friend be able to save him this time? Was this the last time he'd ever fall off of anything?
Suddenly, a strong gust of wind came out of nowhere.
-------------------------------------------------
Y/n saw a boy falling from the cliff.
Had he and his friends come to hunt her? At that moment it did not matter. She had to save him.
With all of her strength she created a gust of wind that slowed his fall. She couldn't stop him from falling completely, but she managed to use the wind to create a leaf pile for him to fall into. She figured that would be softer than the hard ground.
---------------------------------------------------------
Cole grunted as he fell into the leaf pile. He stayed there for a moment reveling in the fact that he was still alive, but then it hit him who had saved him.
He quickly sat up and looked at the girl now standing in front of him.
"Who are you?" He asked.
