One of my favorite things about Psycho Pass 1 is that the narrative doesn’t actually portray Kogami, Akane or Makishima as inherently right or wrong. The entire cast operates on shades of grey. Kogami’s sense of justice becomes a warped revenge quest, Makishima’s anarchist leanings are justified by the dystopian society he’s aware he’s living in; neither of them is a clear cut hero or villain. The story from Makishima’s eyes could very easily have cast him as the protagonist and the material is incredibly aware of this. Both Shinya and Shogo have flaws in their reasoning (Both are, underneath everything, incredibly selfish in their motivations.) and flaws in their methods but both also have very good points and very understandable wants. I’m a sucker for stories that blur the line between hero and villain - there are no absolutes and a world in which the antagonist’s soul is judged to be pure and the protagonist’s is determined to be stained is a very good representation of that.

Random observations about the key visuals: - each of them has colouring on stuff that’s kind of significant to their characters. - Gino is posed like his figurine - Not sure if the colours chosen, have any special meaning but we are very obviously missing the colour red (*cough* Akane *cough*) Also Kou is the only one that’s alone… - each of them are “sinners” in the eyes of the system, except Akane which might be why she is not included in the teaser. - I am too preoccupied with this show again, somebody help

Before Makishima even knew of Kogami, it was like he was willing him into existence - hoping to find someone that would be on his level. Of course, what he doesn’t realise is that although Kogami is similar to him, he’s on the other side of the law, working to bring the strife to an end rather than to incite it. Nevertheless, it seems that the wheels of fate bringing them closer to each other have always been in motion.
