There are two things that give me perpetual feels: Supernatural (specifically Destiel) and music (typically classic rock). That's pretty much what you'll find here. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Can we talk about some SPOILERS for a second?
So I'm a little late to Carina's article so forgive me if this has already been brought up, but..
Crowley is digging into their pasts, and that the people who are returning are somewhat related to the trials/possibly Crowley's digging. The 3 returnees we know of are Sarah Blake, Tommy Collins, and Jenny Klien, right?
Well, you know how this season has featured an incredible amount of heart symbolism? "Castiel always had too much heart", Heartache centered around hearts, hearts were devoured in Bitten, a man's heart burst from his chest in Hunteri Heroici, Prometheus has a heart attack, ect?
Jenny Klien: was attacked by a witch when she was eating cupcakes only to find that inside was a beating heart
Tommy Collins: was taken by a wendigo - a creature that can be killed with fire and possesses a heart made of ice that needs to be shattered or melted (the ep. doesn't go into detail on that, but their talk of wendigos is brief enough to accomodate that lore. Also, Dean shoots the creature in the chest/heart with the flare gun)
Sarah Blake: was Sam's first love interest after Jess' death and their relationship is explicit to matters of the heart
So my question is: What does Crowley need hearts (both literal and metaphoric) for?

Reblogging for commentary.
I don’t want to see Charlie “address Destiel” or “address Dean’s bisexuality,” just like Dean has never “addressed her lesbianism.” She said she was into women, he switched pronoun and example sets and just kept going with no discussion, nothing more than if she’d been a straight woman and…

sigh
Pretty much, right?
But seriously, I'm glad he's having fun - though I was expecting an official SPN account - cue mild eye-roll and half smile. Though, it is kind of hilarious watching everyone scramble to decode his tweets. At least when his shenanigans are at this pace people are too frenzied to start having specific expectations that will be severely disappointing come end of season.

Just wanted to say that I agree with both of you, especially because of the parts I bolded. Though, I felt very strongly conflicted by this scene when I first saw it because it started a war between my inner feminist and my inner queer-reader.
8x17 caused a lot of "no-homo/just-brothery-feelings" side-eyeing for me, so when the very next episode had a character pointedly clarify a relationship that is perceived by others as romantic by saying 'it's just brotherly', my hackles instantly got raised. It initially felt like a LOUD reinforcement of the interpretation that Dean and Cas only share a brotherly bond - through a parallel structure nonetheless - all while the nature of their relationship was fresh in our minds from the intensity of 8x17.
However, this is the first time a brotherly bond parallel has even cropped up this season. So the question for me was, is Krissy, by proxy, giving clarification to the nature of Dean and Cas' relationship? Seems odd to have romantic parallels all season and then say, but, no it was brotherly all along - here's a single parallel that proves that in spite of all the many other contradictory ones. Then there is Krissy's reaction. The fact is, I don't believe her. What's worse, Dean doesn't believe her either.
So here's my new problem: Assuming we aren't supposed to believe her, Dean, in the scene, inadvertently becomes representative of both the heternormative and sexist viewer. Clearly, the girl and and guy must get together because if they aren't in love now, they will be eventually (that's science) - ALSO, it's obviously silly to take the feelings of a woman at her word. Seriously, my own brain injured me, as a feminist, trying to make sense of this scene.
He is our POV. When he approaches Aiden and gives the 'if you hurt her talk' - even though he does it in a manner meant to be acknowledging and supportive of her agency and empowerment - it outright demonstrates that he does not believe Krissy when she says there is nothing there. It is, after all, still an 'if you hurt her talk'. So, how are we meant to believe her either?
In the end, I see the evidence as stacked up in favor of the interpretation that if this is a parallel to Dean and Cas, we are meant to take the notion that their feelings for each other are "only brotherly" as false. However, the route I took to get there and the implications the scene consequently suggests make me really uncomfortable.
Am I the only one?

I wish I could hate John without caveats. It'd be easier that way.

Man, Anon. This is going to get…impassioned.
First lemme get this out of the way: yes, he tried his best. Let no one claim he did not love his sons fiercely and thoroughly. Let it never be said that he wasn’t willing to make sacrifice after sacrifice for his boys. He had a lot going against him and dealt with it the only way he could figure how. He was not a completely bad man and I don’t consider him a villain, and I really don’t like it one bit when fans reduce him to some completely heartless asshole who didn’t care about his boys. (And gods know JDM and Matt Cohen are just fantastic actors.)
That said.
His best was not good enough.

You mean like how his relationship with Benny is the perfect foil to demonstrate the difference between how Dean treats a brutha from anotha motha and how he treats Cas? And how Dean's attachment issues aren't brought up over the fact that his friends (Charlie, Garth, Benny) leave at the end of the day to live their lives with out him, but when Cas separates himself from Dean's life, it's an issue for him and his attachment issues get brought to the surface? Yeah, there's that.
TBH, it's getting hard for me to analyze Dean's friend/family dichotomy because he's on the precipice of working out so many of his issues and a lot of what I've always known about him is slowly changing as he starts to confront these things.
Considering I was expecting institutionalization, I’ll take the ribbon and wear it proudly to show off my ability to over-think things that have exactly zero significance in the broader world.
Look, Mom, WASTED POTENTIAL!

Why are people still paying attention to Russ Hamilton.
Whyyyyyy.
If any of the foolishly highly optimistic fan speculation regarding his tweets comes true, I’ll eat my hat.
Don’t misunderstand — if I’m wrong about this, I’ll be thrilled to hear “I told you so.” But seriously, guys. Don’t say I didn’t warn you when it turns out he’s just been riling everyone up and there’s an ugly riot at his door come the season finale.
