Writing Free-of-Hate Writing with Orlando Ferrand

This event will take place in person at the Woodstock Branch Library. Join our writing workshop, where we’ll practice respect and acceptance while examining assumptions and preconceptions by looking closely at our own short memoir and poetry writing exercises to uncover the root of hate—ignorance as we read and reflect on some of the themes addressed by writers of the most recently banned books in the U.S.

Unleashing Our Freedom Stories: A Writing Workshop with Orlando Ferrand

In this genre-bending writing workshop, participants will explore their life experiences, extracting relevant material that could be molded into poetry, flash fiction and non-fiction at the intersection of creative freedom and censorship, thus exposing personal bias and socio-political injustice as we reclaim our right to be. Reading selection will be based on the current list of banned books in today’s USA.

A creative writing poetry workshop session, where we will peruse a selection of poems revolving around familiar objects and the role they play in our lives. We’ll follow writing prompts to explore our interconnectedness and dependency on the inanimate inhabitants of our daily lives as we dive deeper into the subjective and imaginative essence of poetic discourse. Participants will be able to share their work and learn how to give and receive writing feedback that will enlighten the poet and create an emotional experience for the reader.
