There’s this cool as hell boss in Elden Ring, Rykard:

He’s like an aged man morphed into a serpent, with the head in the middle. It’s hard to really assess totally unless you see it in motion. I find this pretty interesting. When my friend first showed me footage, my instinct was like “holy heck, is that a Sisuitl!?

A powerful serpent-creature from the Pacific Northwest, it is said to have shapeshifting abilities, powerful magic, and the ability to move through land, sea, and air (And thus the worlds associated; ie, the earth, the realm of the dead in the ocean, and the land in the sky where a lot of magical beings live.) The “Tongues” you see also represent Lightning. And, I have heard of some tales that you instantly die if you look at it… Typically, they are among the most powerful and revered creatures of that region, and there are even stories of people riding one (Usually, they use their shapeshifting abilities to turn into a powerful canoe that retains the instant-death factor.) And, supposedly, you can kill one and wash yourself in it’s blood to absorb some of it’s power A famous, named one in Winalagalis, serves as a War God to the  Kwakwaka'wakw people, on northern Vancouver Island. This set of abilities does actually resemble a dragon rather closely, although I imagine some people would take offense to that comparison. Now, I’m not saying that this is definitely an inspiration, or anything. The Sisuitl is relatively well-known with regards to that area… For example, it served as a mascot of Greenpeace for a while, and is even a very minor Final Fantasy creature. But on the whole, this mythology is not very known, and the resemblances there could equally be explained by them resembling other Dragon legends. Still, I was reminded of this, and I just think it’s neat

Oh yeah, I’ve got that Elden Ring fanfic I might have mentioned before started, and I’m polishing Chapter 2 right now, so I guess this is a thing?

I write my fics out in Google Docs and then paste the text into Ao3 when I'm ready to post it. Does anyone else have the problem of pasting with italics? If there's a word in italics next to punctuation, Ao3 will add in a space for some reason and it's kind of infuriating.

One of the AO3 translation volunteers (Min) created a Google Docs script to handle issues when copying from a doc into AO3. It’s really easy to use

create a copy of this google doc. It contains the script that will do all of the HTML formatting for you.

Delete all of the text from the document.

Write or paste your fic/chapter into the document.

Go up to the top menu and click the new menu option Post to AO3, then choose Prepare for posting into the HTML editor

Note: because this is an apps script, you’ll need to give it permission to run the first time. 

The script will automatically mark up your document with the required HTML that you can then paste into the AO3 composition window. \o/

To revert your text back to normal, just go back up to that menu and choose Remove HTML. It will look like regular text again. 

Once you have the doc, you can make a new copy of it for each new fic you write and that way you’ll always have that script available when you need it :)

I’ve been playing so much Elden Ring, I love it!! I haven’t beaten the game yet but I’m taking my time exploring and doing side quests for now. I’m hoping for a neutral ending but I didn’t realize what that ring meant when I gave it to Ranni the witch till it was too late. Oh well. These NPC guys are my all time favs at the moment.
