I’m glad i wasn’t the only one who noticed all the hate the maind character is receving. I remember watching Flower Boys Next Door, and the main girl has problems with depression and interacting in the outside world, the male lead(Enrique Geum) acts just like the female lead(Ro Woon) of Introverted boss but all the fans love him and had no problem with him invading the depressed female lead space. Too much double standards.

Kyuranger

It feels like they had to put 7+2 extras male rangers to compansate the first green regular female of super sentai franchise. Seriously, it’s kind ridiculous having 7 guys and 2 girls, one of them isn’t even human. And we alredy know there’ll be a light blue boy ranger and a purple guy as extras or 6th rangers... seriously? it seems super sentai never give a step foward. I hoe they don’t make green over cute or girly, please.

While watching Timeranger/Timeforce i was really convinced they should have changed green into a girl. The original Timegreen was a small boy, it would have worked better.

Okay, Saban, you really need to just make one of those dudes a girl. I’d want a more equal ratio, but at this point I will accept 8:3. Go back to the good old days of MMPR to Wild Force. I promise you, kids won’t care and some won’t even notice. I know I was one of those kids who didn’t figure it out.

A Masterpost of Rey Toys

It was a truth universally acknowledged, that a blockbuster sci-fi movie in possession of a female character must bend over backwards to produce as little merchandise of her as possible.

Rey’s an outlier (and hopefully a trendsetter) in that regard. Disney’s toymakers have produced a variety of figures in her image, but the demand for them is so high right now that your chances of finding them in stores (or online at reasonable prices) are slim. I hope to make them a bit better with this guide.

Oversexualization in Digimon

Has anyone else noticed just how oversexualized to the point of disturbing the Digimon franchise has become?

Some examples of recent card artwork:

I really started noticing it during season 5, with the above pictured, Rosemon. Now humanoid Digimon weren’t rare mind you, but they never purposely went out of the way during the anime to show you ass or tit shots. (see here)

Now they did do this with Sakuyamon in season 3, but it was much more tasteful and the breast plate shot lasted for about a second. Rosemon’s digivolution lingers on both T&A (censored of course in the English version). And at least Rika and Renamon were main characters who kicked ass. Not once can I remember Yohsi and Lalamon doing shit other than being the babysitter, driver, or nagger.

Now here is her male counterpart, Angemon:

Notice a difference? Where as Angewomon is all “come hither”, Angemon is in a bad ass pose unleashing an attack. 99% of the women “Digimon” in the Jintrix card series are soft core porn images (Example, Example, Example) while all the male or genderless monsters are unleashing an attack and fighting. And that is my problem. The women “Digimon” look like nothing but sexual objects while the male/genderless mons are fighting/charging an attack.

Anyway, so little camel toe here digivolves into the god of all fanservice:

Mervamon is based off of Athena, and do you honestly think Athena went into war dressed like that? No. It just isn’t logical to be a warrior and dress with no armor. All of her internal organs are unprotected. But that wasn’t what the creators were worried about. T&A. That’s all they cared about. Giving a character some personality and strength does not forgo the fact that it is oversexualization. Digimon recently seems to think in order to be a “strong” female character now you need to show your tits and ass to do it. I don’t need to see snake lady’s outlined genitals. I don’t want to see ANY genitals, male OR female! It’s a fucking kids show. (I should note in Japan Digimon is apparently is for teens, still no excuse if you ask me).

Now I realize Japan loves the tig ‘ol bitties, but do you ever see a company like Pokemon pulling this shit? No. Digimon still has a large fanbase in the west. The latest two seasons are even getting dubbed, the online game Digimon Masters is super popular, they are releasing a 15th anniversary game, etc. I don’t get what they are trying to accomplish by making the newer series so raunchy with the female characters. Maybe the same old formula is the problem? How many generic, brown haired, athletic, male leaders do we really need? Why can’t the smart, nerdy boy be the leader? What about the goofball? Or hell, how about a female?

Don’t get me wrong, I love Digimon, but recently it has just left a bad taste in my mouth. I miss the days of Sora, Yolei, and Rika. You know, when the female characters actually were important to the plot and not just oversexualized for fanservice or views?
