My latest release, Ph_ren, is now live over at Bandcamp.聽
Composed and performed on a eurorack modular synthesizer using a strict number of modules and outboard fx units, each piece serves to explore differing compositional and melodic possibilities presented by such rules and limitations.

A little over a week ago i took delivery of a fully customised (right down to the VU meter inlay) dual filter distortion unit made by the fine folks at Retro Mechanical Labs in Portland, USA.
The original unit in stock form is known as a Jekyll 'n' Hyde, owing to the 2 different filter circuits used (one a transistor ladder, the other a diode) and their sonic characteristics. This customised variant however, is know as the Cloak & Dagger.聽
It has been customised with alternate labels on the top and back panels, enclosure finish/colour, some dial circuitry has been reversed, and the inlay for the VU meter is a custom design (Johnathan really went to town experimenting on the colouring!) I even managed to sneak my artist moniker onto the panel.
The build is totally amazing, everything is super solid and well mounted. The whole thing is excellent quality, down to the 'distressing' of the timber enclosure.
The sound? Well, there's a reason i haven't posted anything about this for a week. Aggressive, dark, scathing, textured, subtle.........there's a massive amount of tonal variation available, and it's going to keep me busy for quite some time trying to find all the sweet spots.
If anyone is interested in these sorts of designs, i'd STRONGLY recommend checking them out (rmlfx.com). Johnathan was an absolute pleasure to deal with, fully professional and generous with his time.I'll definitely be working with them again in the future.

I was fortunate enough to be given a fully functioning, cosmetically amazing Hammond organ for free on the weekend. Time to start working on some Tim Hecker covers i think.

So, i've just released a new album, called 'Stellar". Clicking the title above will take you to it.
Stellar is a collection of guitar centered works. It is music for quiet spaces. It is not intended to 'pump you up for a big night out', unless you're a narcissist. Do not attempt to listen to it while exercising, driving, or cleaning the house, as this will render the experience pointless. It performs best in the dark, at high volume, or in headphones. Preferably all three. It's $5. Pay more if you like.
Thank-you for listening.

Live at Ric's
I never thought i'd ever play an ambient set at Ric's. Stranger things have happened. Happening tomorrow night. Blurb time:
Two Brisbane based solo projects (and good friends) Soma and Oscill_Ether are getting together for a very unrehearsed, very short notice night of free live ambient at Ric's bar, Tues the 18th of September. Yeah, one day away.聽 Opening the show and breaking a 3 year live hiatus, one piece Soma is the recording alias of guitarist Michael Gagen. A far cry from both the fiercely technical and progressive aspects of his work Arcane, and the dense multi instrumentation of his work with post rock group Echotide,
Soma's sample laden, largely improvised musical output is best described as minimalist, ambient and delicate.聽 www.soundcloud.com/agrammeofsoma Following on is Oscill_Ether, whose works are primarily focused on freeform sonic exploration, utilizing electric guitar, effect pedals, analogue modular synthesis, field recording and reel to reel recording, drawing inspiration from melody, emotion and location, allowing each musical piece the freedom to evolve at it鈥檚 own pace. http://oscillether.com/ Rics Bar Tuesday 18th September Free! 18+

Happenings
It's been a long time since i've posted anything online. Granted i'm not the most prolific of people when it comes to posting, I figured an update was somewhat necessary.
My studio flooded a few months back, and it took nearly 2 months for it to get re-floored. No equipment was lost or damaged. I also got a new job in a music store, which has been amazing, and very busy. My hours has since been reduced which will be enormously beneficial creatively. I've been working on sound design and a little bit of scoring for an independent Sci-Fi film as well, which is really fun, and hopefully will lead to more work in the industry in the future. More details on the film will be presented when they are available. Also, work has recommenced on my next few album projects, which will, all going well, be released by June.
So although online i've been quiet, in actual life i've been incredibly active.
