I just finished up the next chapter of Ripples into Waves, but my beta is out of commission with a migraine, so who knows when that will be up. But it is done! And twice the length of the last chapter, so hey, we’ll be eating well once it is posted.

I am, once again, thinking about the Jariel au where Ariel is a college dropout who works at a local animal shelter and comes back to work after a few days off to find that someone dropped off the largest dog she's ever seen in her life. Like, "Only the fact that someone dropped him off reassures us he's not a wolf, and even that is shallow comfort" Big. He's lean and skittish and growls and snaps at anyone who comes near, but he's also shaking like a leaf and Ariel has a soft spot for odd things so she makes it her mission to get the dog - the woman who had dropped him off called him Pleiades - adopted.

He starts to get comfortable with her over time and with a lot of patience, but ONLY her, and he's got a few strikes against him for poor behavior - he snaps at one more employee, he's getting put down. So Ariel decides to just adopt him herself and takes him home to her roommate Tiana and their many fish and amphibians.

Over time Pleiades warms up to them even more, and starts learning basic commands. And then advanced commands. And then Ariel swears he can understand her, and Tiana claims that he rolled his eyes at her the other day. All of it keeps building and adding up until one night on a walk, a group of guys decide to try and mug Ariel while Pleiades is off doing his business. The sight of a snarling wolf the size of a minivan and with fangs longer than Ariel's hand stepping out of the woods scares them off, and Ariel finally realizes there is something very wrong with her dog.
