To translate: the I (1, notated in Roman numerals) chord of a key is the tonic of the key (this song is in C major, so the I is C major). The I is the chord that most progressions resolve to and it's most often and best described as "sounding like home". Now, the verses of You Without Me are made up almost entirely of minor and/or suspended chords, which, to very shorthand, are very troubled-sounding, tense, unresolved chords. Heavy emphasis that the majority of these are usually PASSING chords that are there for 1-2 measures, NOT an entire verse. And yet we stay on these heavy, moody, opposite-of-home freaking chords for the entire verse, all for the first time the I, or "home" chord, appears to be on the line, you guessed it..."there you are, my morning star"
The placement of the I chord in You Without Me is just a diabolical thing to do

Hey, look at that, it's the anniversary of the moon landing, it's time to showcase Brandi Carlile's recent utter obsession with the word moon
Never Too Late - "It's never too late to go shoot out the moon"
The River Man - "Dance in the moonlit fleur-de-lis"
Someone To Belong To - "Even the moon is full of holes"
Swing For the Fences - "Take a shot at the moon"
Wandering - "It's in the love from the moon for the morning dew"
Salt then Sour then Sweet - "Look up at the brilliant sky, holding the sun and the moon and the thundering June"

Janis Ian (1967) review: very very very good. I will be more intellectual when I have more time
Biggest standout tracks at first listen: Society's Child, Hair of Spun Gold, I'll Give You A Stone If You Throw It (Changing Tymes)

I disappear tomorrow for 2 weeks and I'm trying to decide if I should revive The Sad Empty Hollow Ghost Of Me (AKA the queue)
#far far less sad and empty and hollow given that I'm not missing an entire album drop and I'm actually going somewhere that I want to be#but still

The way I can see a random Youtube thumbnail without the title with a completely random picture of BC in a completely random outfit and automatically go "Hershey Theatre, July 20th, 2016" without even having a conscious thought about it

"All in a moment, all in sound. All in a day's work, we're tumbling down. Down by the old school, trash in the street, searching the eyes of the strangers we meet. Asking will it get better? Will we be alone? Turning the wheels of our bicycles home"
Can we talk about how Just Kids gets so much better with literally every listen??

I feel the need to point out that this is just the ending of this poem, and that the beginning line of it (meant to follow the title) is "it meant I am willing to do anything to live"

Thinking about freshman biology when I wrote and performed, with my own guitar accompaniment, a parody of Tracy Chapman's Fast Car from the perspective of a water molecule for a project about the water cycle

They usually have the tone of someone trying to basically eloquently scream "what the fuck" a million times
I enjoy a BCB review that is written by someone who is clearly pre-obsessed
