“Too Close” - CHAPTER SEVEN [On AO3]  →

Summary: Junkrat, Lúcio, and D.Va find themselves stranded in the irradiated Australian Outback, and have to work as a team to get back to the rest of the Overwatch crew. While Lúcio and Junkrat initially find themselves hostile to each other, time spent together forms a budding romance between the two. Unfortunately, with a team of greedy Junkers on their tails, it looks like there won’t be too much time for confessions. It’s up to the three to save themselves and each other. Largely Lúcio’s POV, with some exceptions. Boombox (Junkrat/Lúcio) is the primary relationship, with D.Va/Junkrat/Lúcio as a friendship and other implications. Contains original Overwatch characters, one of which is the villain. All chapter art is done by me!

Back to semi-regular updates! This is the longest chapter thus far, and I put a lot of work into it. I also included a lot of audio to go with this chapter. I hope you all enjoy! Any comments/kudos are appreciated greatly.

Hiatus

Hello all! Blurr here, and as you all may have noticed... this blog has been a bit inactive as of late. It wasn’t intentional, not at first, but Admin Fire and I had some personal stuff going on that had us caught up, and due to some bad personal experiences with the fandom and the game, we’ve become a little drained.

We were struggling trying to keep this blog going, trying to keep our love of Boombox and Overwatch going, and it’s been hard. So we’ve decided to take a bit of a step back from the fandom and this blog for a little while. Trying to force ourselves to keep active with something that’s become so emotionally draining is hard, and the worse we push ourselves the worse it gets. We do still love this blog, Boombox, and everyone here! But we just need a bit of a break. We need a bit of time to recover.

So until ferther notice, this blog is going to be on Hiatus. We want to apologize to anyone who was looking forward to this months Boombox Week, we’re so very sorry. We hope you can forgive us, but we understand if not. But remember that you’re all so very amazing, and we loved being part of all of this. More than anything.

We love you all. We’re so very sorry to leave you like this. Hopefully we’ll be able to return someday.

COLLAB | Stop It by Neon--Stylus

'Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my gooood.' his mind screamed at him. He had the hardest time believing what was going to happen. Hell, he had an even harder time believing what had happened yesterday! Jamison, whom he had been crushing on for almost three months now, had asked him out on a date. A date. The full-blown 'I'll meet ya there at 'round three-ish, we can grab some boba, go for a walk in the park, and I'll walk ya back home'. He could not believe his ears when Jamie had asked, flustered, if he'd like to go out some time. Lucio even pinched his arm to check if he was asleep or not.    The two of them, Lucio and Jamie, had hit it off the moment they met, getting along instantly. It was like there wasn't any ice to be broken. With in a week or so, they could both be found texting each other for hours and hours at a time. And in a month, Jamie'd be aloud to just show up at Lucio's house and chill, play video games with Lucio's other close friend, Hana, order pizza, basically anything normal close friends would do.    They were thick as thieves, they were. They were so close, any passerby would assume that they were already dating. They'd hug often, go everywhere together for no reason other than to be with the other, wait outside each other's classrooms for the classes they didn't share of them to come out, et cetera. They also had a secret language in emojis when they needed to type something really fast. Like, a blue heart with a sun meant 'good morning' but a blue heart all by itself meant that one of them was sad and needed cheering up.    Lucio and Jamie basically behaved like any couple would, besides calling the other their boyfriend. Until now.    Lucio let out a huff and shoved his fists into the pocket of his hoodie. Would this... date go like any cliche first date. With the awkward 'hey's and the award chuckle after an awkward silence of staring at each other. You know what, he didn't care. First dates are always awkward, as he was told. He had nothing to go off of, he had never been on any dates before. God, he was saying that word over and over in his head, date, and the more he did the more it caused a chill to work its way up his back.    He drew in a deep breath in order to calm his fluttering heart and sat up strait on his place on the park bench. He was going to make things work with Jamie. It had always worked out with him. Their friendship. The closeness was something he was already used to, metaphorically and literally. The trust and the bodily contact. What he'd have to get used to was calling Jamie his boyfriend. Hell, even if he was that to Lucio at the moment.    Out of the corner of his eye he could see Jamie walking up to him in a tank top and skinny jeans nonetheless. 'That idiot, it's the middle of fall for Pete's sake!' he mentally scolded Jay. He turned fully to face his date. His face lit up when Lucio looked at him and Lu swore that a twinge of pink tinted his pale cheeks as it did so.    "Well," Jamie started boldly, sitting next to Lucio, "fancy seeing you here, Froggy!" god, that adorable smile of Jay's was going to be the death of him.    "Hey..." Lucio stammered, all but staring at Jamie's cutely angled face, "I- uh..." Great. Perfect. Real smooth, Lucio.    "Aw, come on Lu, don't get all flustered on me already! The date just started!" he pulled Lucio up from the bench by his hand and started walking along the edge of the path in front of them.    He cleared his throat while at the same time clearing his mind. He had worked himself up for nothing! This was just him and Jamie, like always. Lu and Jay against the world. He had absolutely nothing to fear or get anxious about. Nothing at all.    "You don't seem surprised," Lucio pried jokingly. His nervousness had melted away instantly when Jamie had grabbed his hand.    "Nah, there's no use in being worried when it's just you! The amazing Lucio: Mayor of Awesomevile," he paused for a moment, glancing down at his friend, letting go of his hand and putting it in his pocket, "Were you?"    "Yeah, I mean it's not like I've been crushing on you since Summer or anything like that. Oh and I also haven't been on the edge of a panic attack for the last fourteen hours!"    Jamie let out a loud laugh, holding his stomach as he did.    "Sorry, mate," that damn cute smile, "Didn't mean to give ya a start!"    "Betrayal!" he put on a face of mock distress, putting the back of his hand to his forehead, throwing his head back. Jay only laughed harder at this point and Lucio eventually followed in suit; holding his stomach while his laugh came out in bursts as they walked.    It felt right. It felt comfortable. It was the same way they had acted around each other for the last year and a half. The little space between each other, the dry humor and over exaggerations, and the laughter. Though the conversation between them way loud and lively, the energy was a calm one of trust. They cared a bout each other, they love each other. Platonic or not they would always have this unconditional love for the other. Lucio smiled at that fact.    Jay pulled his hand out of his pocket and rested it at his side.    "Ya know-..." he paused and waited for Lu to look at him, "You really are one of the most amazing people I've met. I love ya, mate."    Lucio's cheeks were brightly reddened at Jamie's words. He looked away gracelessly and put a hand to the back of his neck.    "Aw, jeez. Man, I uh... thank you?" he hadn't meant for it to sound like a question, "Uh, yeah, thank you."    "No prob, Luci," Jay giggled and took Lu's hand in his and looked him dead in the eye, smiling.    "Would it kill you to try being less adorable?" Lucio shouted sarcastically.    "Yes it would actually!" Jamie joined in on the mock argument.    "Well then, I'll just have to do it myself!" he stopped walking and reached for Jamie's face. But, in a split second, Jamie bolted down the rest of the path.    "You'll have to catch me first!"    Yes, this was definitely the start of some amazing.

WIP

Actual semi-long project I’m working on. Gosh I hope it goes somewhere. If I get a few chapters done I’ll start to post.

Boombox with other pairings intermingled throughout eventually. This is just what I’ve worked out for the beginning.

“Where’d you find these guys?” asked Lúcio, looking through the window, arms crossed over his chest. He had no idea what to think, looking at the two men standing in the hall outside of the office. They were huge. “They look like they ate some of the mushroom in Wonderland.”

WIP

The crash outside made Lúcio groan, coming out of a half-sleep he’d been having on the couch. A hockey game – streamed from the World Series – was playing on the screen and he hadn’t been completely invested in watching a game between Sweden and Norway. The game he really wanted was on later, Canada vs Russia. He didn’t see much of his old man, but damned if he wasn’t going to be cheering for him in place of his mãe while she was on her vacation with her sisters.

“Gods damned, no good, long nosed raccoons,” he muttered as he got up, stretching enough to feel his back crack. He had to convince mãe to get a new one, but she had only ever accepted a few dollars from Lúcio whenever he could sneak it into her purse without getting caught.
