When I was something like 10, my brother started learning to play the bass. People would provide him with bass methods (you know, books and CD's for training). But since he would soon get actual lessons from a teacher he never really used 'em.
I would sometimes sneak into his room and listen to some riffs then put the CD back in place incognito.
One day, I got stuck on a "Lemon Meringue" part and that's how I discovered Fishbone.
Being a hardcore pre-teen RHCP and RATM fangirl at the time, I loved everything that was related to them. And Fishbone had had the RHCP play their first part at Lolapalooza. I thought Fishbone was really famous back then since the RHCP were.
I remember sharing my passion with some of my gals after class at the tramway station. Acting all like:
"Whaaaaaaat ?!? You don't know Fishbone ?"
Haha, I really should have known better... No one knew them. And they still don't. What a friggin UFO one can be sometimes.
There wasn't much music on YT at the time (YT was new). But there was radioblog. Do you remember radioblog ? I would go there and figure out how to hack and download tracks from it, and be happy with my fresh Fishbone mp3's I got myself like a grown girl.
Then, when I got my first own personal computer I would look for more sounds. Just the way I found Bone Thugs, I went on Wikipedia. Though Wikipedia said that there was another criminally underrated alternative fusion similar band called 24-7 Spyz.
I fell instantly in love with their "heavy metal soul" and Walter's warm voice. From the first to the very last album released in 2006, they seemed perfect for me (like the pot that was perfect for Spike Spiegel).
Well, with this 2019 comeback, they're still at it. Ten years since I discovered them and they've never disappointed me.
I was playing Fates when I found this out.
Now, my Fire Emblem army always feels stronger with some music on. Hence the Grado musicians.
Since I’ve been playing the remake of the first game, getting the enemy rekt by all my thuggish ruggish Marth expies while jamming some gangsta rap has been a very Oxnut-ish thing to do.
We creeped and crawled from the Isles of Talys everyone had forgotten about to get the kingdom back with an army of ruffians gathered on the go.
Then in Rekt no Ken, the G flavour would harmonize smoothly with the view of a beautiful MLG Lucius pulling out lit criticals on red units, my Florina gracefully trolling the O%-hitrate'd bowmen, my insanely overpowered Sain taking "No Damage" like a boss, every thief I would grow like they were my own preferred child becoming the tank their stats never meant them to be, the Hectorcopter travelling ethereally from shitpost to shitpost, and the dankest of princes, Ephraim, sending God out and taking no shits because that would mean comparing the garage to a cheat.
I also remember my leftist stero-Ike and a POD'ed Shinon chillin on soft Winehouse and Jamiroquai tunes after bloodfesting hard on a bunch of golden berserkers.
More recently, I would get Nohrians to destroy Hoshidans and vice versa on Brand New Heavies and Tower of Power beats because The Machine likes him some Soul with a capital "S".
Now I gotta add some Spyz dope to my ultimate FE playlist (I first have to make an actual ultimate FE playlist) for incoming Three Houses. Not that I will manage to get my hands on the game soon, but... well.
Finding out about this great 24-7 Spyz comeback while rushing Revelations reminded me of all this stuff.
