Maggottail art (once again an excuse to talk about things)
Tumblr media
As I said in my Eaglewing post, I recently finished rereading the Warrior Cats series.
When I reread The Broken Code, one of my favorite parts of the last two books of the arc (though mainly A Light In The Mist) were the Dark Forest cats who helped fight against Ashfur.
It showed some depth to the Dark Forest, by giving us characters who aren’t necessarily evil, like most other cats there. They aren’t making up any sort of revenge plot or want to kill the living clans. While they may be a bit meaner or aggressive, these are cats who (at least by the end of the arc) understand that they did bad things in life and have more-or-less accepted their place in the Dark Forest.
As if that weren’t enough, though, about a week after I finished TBC, the movie Thunderbolts* released and I saw it in the theater. I really enjoyed the movie, and one of my favorite parts of it was seeing a bunch of antihero-type characters work together as a team.
And then I realized that Silverhawk, Sparrowfeather, Maggottail, Redwillow, and Juniperclaw (which I have taken to referring to them as the “Dark Forest Allies”) are the closest thing that Warrior Cats has to that. It’s not exactly the same thing, but I do think it would be interesting if the writers chose to make them into some sort of team that may help the heroes if whatever threat they’re facing also endangers the Dark Forest.
Even if they don’t do that, I still would really like to know more about all of these characters. I feel like there’s some potential for really interesting stories (and yet instead we’re getting a Darktail SE. :/)
Maggottail is my favorite of the group because he’s so silly sometimes. And the backstory for him from Vicki’s facebook is canon to me because it’s pretty cool (and also a bit silly as well).
I honestly have no idea what he could’ve done to end up in the Dark Forest.

I actually was thinking about this while I was rereading the first arc last week. It should’ve been pretty obvious that the prophecy was made-up because of this (the exclusion of two tribes the NightWings either don’t care about or actively hate) combined with the fact that the NightWing egg was the only one that didn’t have to be stolen.
The only reason the NightWings got away with it because nobody thinks clearly during war; no one was in the headspace to actually think about it for more than two seconds. Everyone (or at least almost everyone) just wanted the war to end.
Tumblr media
there's only five tribes in the prophecy because nightwings are racist

So I don’t really go out of my way to look at fan theories, so I have no idea if other people also have thought of this, but I have a theory regarding Changing Skies — more specifically, Chasing Shadows.
Brambleclaw’s gonna die. I’ve been thinking of this ever since I learned that he’s the one on the cover above Moonpaw and next to Moonpaw’s sibling.
From the cover, it looks like he’s confronting Moonpaw’s sibling while in a cave of some sort — which I can only assume would be the tunnels between ThunderClan and WindClan.
So we have an elder confronting the arc’s only main antagonist so far, while in a location most notable for being unstable (and just in general, bad things tend to happen in those tunnels). It’s a death scene waiting to happen.
What really sells the idea for me is that it makes the most sense for where Tawnypelt’s character arc seems to be taking her. After reading The Elder’s Quest, I figured that she was going to start drifting away from ShadowClan — and since she’s developing a crush on Crowfeather, the logical assumption is that she would end up in WindClan.
But the description we’ve been given for Chasing Shadows says she’s going to seek refuge in ThunderClan and is going to consider staying there. So what could possibly happen to change that? Easy. Her brother’s death. Tawnypelt doesn’t really have much of a connection to modern-day ThunderClan. Aside from Brambleclaw, the only cat there she knows well is Squirrelstar, and even then, to a much lesser degree than she does Brambleclaw.
I can totally see Brambleclaw’s death being the catalyst for Tawnypelt deciding that ThunderClan isn’t the best place for her to stay either, and that eventually leading her to go to WindClan.
If this is true, and that Brambleclaw does die in the tunnels, I think that would be a very good use of symbolism, by having the event that pushes Tawnypelt from ThunderClan to WindClan happen in a place that connects those two clans.

Drawing of Eaglewing I made simply as an excuse to talk about her
Tumblr media
She is so unimportant, I genuinely find it hilarious.
I personally don’t fully agree with the usual sentiment around background/side characters. I think that for most of them (at least the ones in ThunderClan), we have just enough to get a basic idea of what they’re like.
But when I recently reread the series (just the main arcs. Plus the Super Editions that I have), I was surprised by Eaglewing. I completely forgot she existed, and never once in my reread did I see her do anything even remotely important or interesting. All she does is show up to say things that could very well have been said by any other character.
And it got even funnier to me when I looked her up on the wiki and found out that she’s related to multiple characters who are much more notable. First of all, she’s the daughter of Thornclaw and Blossomfall — two pretty popular characters (although I personally am not a huge fan of Thornclaw). And through Blossomfall, Eaglewing is also the granddaughter of Graystripe, one of the most significant characters in the whole series (and my favorite character of all time).
Her brothers are pretty significant too. First, we have Stemleaf, who was an important supporting character in The Broken Code. And then we have Shellfur, whose relationship with Fernstripe in A Starless Clan served as a mirror to Nightheart and Sunbeam’s.
I just find it really hilarious that the rest of her family is off doing all these big things, while she’s just vibing in the background being the most uninteresting ThunderClan cat to ever exist.
I love her so much (and I honestly don’t know whether it’s ironic or unironic)

It’s probably a bit of stretch to use this meme template, but I couldn’t think of any other one to convey this joke with.
I know Umber isn’t part of Jade Winglet anymore, but y’know, neither is Winter and I still call him a Jade Winglet character.

Everyone always talks about Tigerstar 1’s death (and it is indeed a gruesome one), but you know which death sticks with me the most? Harelight’s. The line “his body lying dead in a pool of his own blood” surprised me a bit when I first read Star, and that visual is what tends to pop into my head whenever I think of how intense this series can be.

Idk whether or not someone’s already made this joke before, but I reread The Brightest Night today, which led me to the idea of making this meme.

If Peril and Sky meet, I feel like an interesting way to go about it would be Peril wanting to be a good sibling, but because she has no idea how to, she tries to mimic Clay’s dynamic he has with the DoD, but it doesn’t work well because Peril and Sky are very different from the DoD, and so they have to learn how to handle things in a way that works for them.

The stories in the Warrior Cats field guides are canon Warriors to me in the same way that the 2003 Clone Wars is Star Wars canon to me.
As in, unless it directly goes against something in the official canon, then it is canon to me.
