Just before midnight the soft footsteps of rain begin to patter outside my window; but leave as quickly as they arrived. Teased again by the thought of a restful night's sleep, I lie on my back perturbed that something once so effortless has become so difficult. Of course it is not the sleep that I avoid, but the silence that comes with the conscious act of going to sleep. For in those brief moments I am vulnerable to all my greatest fears. In the dark nothing can distract me anymore, so the regrets and phobias come out to play.

Because of this I have found myself fighting the process of tiredness until I wake up.

But now it feels as if I never sleep.
