hot take possibly? but i actually think it’s okay for things to be marketed for adults. it’s literally okay if things aren’t suitable for children. i feel like we are losing the plot

The first part of the boar hunt in KCD is very interesting on what it says about Hans. When he goes to shoot the boar, Henry asks if he is going to take the boar with an arrow and Hans asks, “why…why wouldn’t I?”

Of course Hans gets snobby when Henry tells him he can’t do it, (which is something Hans does when he is uncomfortable or feeling off balanced) but it actually says a lot about Hans and his situation.

He genuinely doesn’t know how to hunt boar, he isn’t just being an asshole here. Here is a young man whose passion is hunting and he had never been on a boar hunt. For those who don’t know, boar hunts are social events, especially for noblemen. These would have been pretty big events with nobles, huntsmen, cooks, servants, and a number of animals. They were seen as ways to test one mettle and prove a man’s virtue since boars were actually somewhat respected as adversaries, dangerous and difficult. Boar hunts were also very popular in stories about knights. Even though Hans isn’t recognized as an adult because of the rules, he isn’t a child and still should have gone on one by this point, even if he didn’t get a spear or weapon.

I think it says a few things. A) Hans had to be pretty socially isolated since Hamush never had a boar hunt nor was Hans ever invited on one. Even if there weren’t other young men around, Radzig or Hamush should have had a hunt and invited each other to it (and Hans by extension) B) Even if Henry’s company is being used as a punishment, the second Hans gets a companion, he immediately tries to hunt a boar with him, to show off his virtue and skill and impress Henry. How often do you think Hans had imagined himself boar hunting with friends, just like the knights of stories did? It is really no wonder he rushes into the hunt, he finally got the chance to prove himself to someone, even if the person is ‘just’ Henry.
