You can experience any of these things in real life (many people do) BUT DON'T YOU DARE WRITE ABT IT!!! ONLY HAPPY STORIES W/ HAPPY THINGS. Don't you DARE write abt the darker side of the world. Don't you DARE write stories that challenge and disturb people.

People write about these things for entertainment, sure, but also to process, to question and examine why they happen and to who they happen (and why they happen to those people), and to comfort people who have been through these things. We can't begin to change our society unless we first challenge the powers and systems in our media. Media CAN be just mindless entertainment, but it CAN ALSO be a powerful space for exploration and questioning and a place for voices that are often ignored to tell their stories.

Technically these guidelines would gut the thriller, mystery, and horror genres but you know who it's REALLY don't to hurt? LGBTQ, minorities, and sex workers, because THOSE are the stories people really want to suppress.
