Lunchtime Lesson #1 - Algebra 101
Welcome to the first seminar in my "Lunchtime Lesson" series. Today, we will be diving into the world of Mathematics, and hopefully shed some light on the difficult topic of algebra. Firstly, let us begin with defining the term "Algebra" and providing a little background on the subject matter.
Algebra (Al-ge-bra) noun - The part of mathematics in which letters and other symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formulae and equations
Algebra can essentially be considered as doing computations similar to that of arithmetic with non-numerical mathematical objects. Initially, these objects were variables that either represented numbers that were not yet known (unknowns) or represented an unspecified number (indeterminate orparameter), allowing one to state and prove properties that are true no matter which numbers are substituted for the indeterminates.
As it developed, algebra was extended to other non-numerical objects, like vectors, matrices, and polynomials. In today's lesson we will be applying these algebraic principles to the ever evolving equation of lunch. Basic algebra states the following:
A + B + C = Lunch
Now we shall go on to see how this equation can be solved by applying the variables of "Total Organics" & "The Exotic Meat Company".
"A" represents Total Organics Omelette w/ tomato, peppers, onions & spinach

"B" represents Total Organics salad selection...
Our selection today of salads today are Beetroot & Apple, Salsa & Sweet Potato...

A + B =...

Having applied the Total Organic variable, we shall now bring in the Exotic Meat Company variable to complete the equation.
"C" represents The Exotic Meat Company's Horse Burger (not from the Godolphin range)

Thus...
A + B + C = Lunch

Thus, by applying basic algebraic principles we have been able to prove that A + B + C does in fact equal Lunch...
I hope you have enjoyed today's "Lunchtime Lesson" serving, brought to you by Borough Market Studios.
