HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. (WFTS) — Deputies in Highlands County have arrested a man for attempting to perform a castration inside his home. Deputies were called to 74-year-old Gary Van Ryswyk's home located on Orday Road in Sebring on Sunday, August 18. When they arrived, Ryswyk told a deputy he had just performed a castration on a man and encountered major issues. Deputies found a victim on a bed, bleeding heavily, with a towel over his groin. The victim was flown to a nearby hospital and is said to be stable. During their investigation, deputies found two body parts in a pink container, presumed to have belonged to the victim. Ryswyk had set up a room to look like a surgical center and had medical equipment and painkillers inside, according to a release. A camera was also set up to record the procedure. Van Ryswyk told deputies he had met the victim on the dark web on a site geared toward people who have a castration fetish. In addition, Ryswyk told deputies he had tried to perform the procedure on the victim last week, but had to delay. According to a release, Ryswyk told the victim that he had experience on animals and had even removed one of his own testicles in 2012. He also said he had done a similar procedure on a man in a local motel a few years ago. It also did not end well, according to the Highlands County Sheriff's Office. Ryswyk was arrested Monday and charged with practicing medicine without a license resulting in bodily injury, a second-degree felony. SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Authorities in the Dominican Republic have arrested former pitcher Octavio Dotel and cited ex-infielder Luis Castillo for their alleged links to a drug-trafficking and money-laundering ring, officials said Tuesday. Dominican Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez said police are also actively pursuing the alleged leader of the ring, César Emilio Peralta, also known as “César the Abuser.” Castillo - not the current Cincinnati Reds’ pitcher - has not yet been arrested. “Eighteen other people are linked to this network, including athletes and baseball players Octavio Dotel and Luis Castillo,” Rodríguez said in a news conference, calling it “the most important drug trafficking structure in the region.” He said Peralta created a complicated system of companies to hide the origins of his assets, using members of his family and social circles, “including two sports figures in the Dominican Republic.” Rodríguez said the U.S. government and police agencies participated in the investigation. Dominican officials say a 1,050-kilogram shipment of drugs heading from South America to Puerto Rico was one of several seizures attributed to this ring. On his Instagram account, Castillo denied any ties to drugs. “The truth is my country no longer works, my God, do you think that after making millions of dollars in Baseball I am going to dirty my hands with drugs?” the former player wrote. Castillo was a three-time All-Star, won three Gold Gloves and was a member of the 2003 Florida Marlins team that won the World Series. Report via Houston Chronicle -- Lee High and University of Texas star running back Cedric Benson reportedly has died in a two-vehicle wreck in Austin, according to the Austin American-Statesman. The newspaper attributed information about Benson's death to family and friends. CBS affiliate KEYE reported on its website that the Saturday night crash involved a motorcycle and a minivan, and that medics declared a man and a woman in their 30s dead at the scene. Two other people refused transport to the hospital. The KEYE report also cites a law enforcement spokesperson, who said that the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Ranch-to-Market Road 2222 when it struck the white minivan that was pulling onto the roadway. The two people who died on scene were on the motorcycle, the spokesperson said. Benson led the Lee High School football to three straight state championships from 1998 to 2000. His 8,418 yards rushing puts eighth all-time in the history of Texas high school football, according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football. His prep resume also includes having the most yards of any player in the state highest classification, scoring five touchdowns in each of the three state championship games he played in and was the first high school football player to appear on the cover of Dave Campbell's magazine. He also was drafted out of high school to play baseball by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Benson attended the University of Texas, where he rushed for 5,540 yards and 64 touchdowns – both are second on the school’s all-time list. He is the only player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in four seasons. He was a Doak Walker Award winner and is the 10th leading rusher in the history of Division I college football, according to sports-reference.com. STOCKHOLM (AP) — A Swedish court on Wednesday found American rapper A$AP Rocky guilty of assault for his role in a June 30 street brawl in Stockholm that drew the close attention of U.S. President Donald Trump. Though the 30-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, and his two bodyguards were found to have hit and kicked the victim during the brawl, the three defendants did not face the prospect of an immediate prison term and did not have to attend the verdict by the Stockholm District Court. The court did sentence the three to “conditional sentences,” which means they face no prison sentence in Sweden unless they commit a similar offense in the country again. The three, who were released Aug. 2 pending the verdict and returned to the U.S., have been ordered to a pay a total of 12,500 kronor ($1,310) in compensation to the victim. The artist had pleaded self-defense and said he had tried to avoid a confrontation with the two men who he claimed were persistently following his entourage. One of them picked a fight with one of Mayers’ two bodyguards, the rapper told during the court proceedings. NEW YORK (AP) — Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair was sentenced on Monday to 3 1/2 years in prison in his New York City gun case. Telfair — a once highly touted point guard with a disappointing pro basketball career and a history of brushes with the law — had been convicted earlier this year of carrying a loaded handgun in his pickup truck. “The mandatory prison sentence he received today is required by law and he has now been held accountable for the unlawful conduct,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement. There was no immediate response to a phone message on Monday seeking comment from Telfair’s attorney. Gonzalez said that a jury heard testimony describing how at 2:50 a.m. on June 11, 2017, officers in an unmarked police car spotted a Ford F-150 parked on a center median in Brooklyn with the 34-year-old Telfair at the wheel. The officers stopped the truck after it made a U-turn in front of them and drove off with no headlights on. Seeing a lit marijuana cigarette in the console, they said they searched the vehicle and found a loaded .45-caliber pistol inside. The Brooklyn-born Telfair was a first-round draft pick out of high school in 2004. He started with the Portland Trail Blazers and spent time with the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves and other teams before ending his career in China in 2014. Telfair and a friend were arrested in 2007 after a traffic stop during which police found a loaded handgun in the vehicle. WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) – A 27-year-old Bronx woman has been charged in a series of burglaries of homes in Westchester County while the residents were attending funeral services. Latonia Shelecia Stewart was arraigned Wednesday on a 22-count indictment charging her with burglary, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and other charges. Information on her attorney was not immediately available. The Westchester district attorney’s office says Stewart looked up obituaries online and targeted individuals she believed would not be home while attending the funerals. The burglaries happened between the Fall of 2017 through the Spring of 2018. Authorities say Stewart broke windows and glass doors using a mallet hammer she kept under the seat of her vehicle. Gayle Newland cried in the dock as she was sent back to jail yesterday for tricking the woman into believing she was a man by making her wear a blindfold when they met and by using a prosthetic penis during 15 sexual encounters. The 27-year-old created a "disturbingly complex" online persona to achieve her own "bizarre sexual satisfaction" and continued the deception over a two year period. The Recorder of Manchester, Judge David Stockdale QC, told her she had shown “an extraordinary degree of cunning and a chilling desire" to manipulate and control the lives of others "It is difficult to conceive of a deceit so degrading or a deceit so damaging to the victim on its discovery," he added. "In her own words, she said the 'nightmares still remain, the distrust remains and the fear still remains'." Newland has been jailed again following a retrial at Manchester Crown Court after a jury convicted her of committing sexual assault by using a prosthetic penis without her victim's consent. Her victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, says she feels she is trapped in a "prison" after what Newland did to her.
