The Very Eerie Episode

Episode 6 is ONE of my favorite episodes. Shhhh dont tell nobody.  

It was easily the most stressful episode to shoot. After being only scheduled for one long shoot day, it became FOUR. With five actors, three locations, it was certainly one of the most complex to shoot with my limited crew. And with every actor being extremely important to almost every scene.... sigh.  Let me just go through shoot days and what happened I dont think you will believe it. 

FIRST SHOOT DAY:

Everyone says they can make it. The night before, I believe, Brittany-Laurelle emails me saying that she just lost her voice and she wont be able to make it in the morning. I am forced to alter the shoot and only shoot one scene. Not bad, Ive dealt with worst.

 SECOND SHOOT DAY: 

Everyone says they can make it. While driving actors to the location (Actress Kristine John's house) she calls me saying her father has collapsed and has a seizure.  Ambulance on their way. He almost dies. We end up trying to shoot an alternate ending. Doesnt work.

Most importantly, prayers went up, blessings came down. Her father is alive and healthier than ever today. 

THIRD SHOOT DAY:

Everyone says they can make it. Brittany-Laurelle's mother is rushed to the hospital and nearly dies. Cant make it. (Mom is fine today) We shoot God knows what. lol.

FOURTH SHOOT DAY: 

Everyone says they can make it. AND DOES.... Except our Light man man Toby Wallace, who is basically everything that I am not when it comes to crew, car breaks down. Cant make it. Leaving us with subpar lighting and more work for me to do in post. But we get it done. 

I cross my fingers hoping that whatever the hell I shot over the past, I think it was 6 weeks, is somewhat tangible and makes some sort of sense. Added onto that, I liked, perhaps too much, the actors going off script and improvising which if anyone knows makes editing extra complicated. It takes the longest of all the episodes to edit properly, almost a month. And some important voiceover wasn't recorded until I was in LA many months later. But with all that. It is easily one of my favorites, the only pure comedy of all the episodes, and definitely the most difficult ANYTHING Ive ever had to shoot. Ever. But it got done, and Im hella proud.

Special thanks to Jason Watkins and Preston Taylor for not being jerks about having to travel to Westchester from Brooklyn and Harlem respectively, and not complaining once. Much. lol. They brought their professionalism to every shoot and their skill can easily be seen as they perform. Im very fortunate.

Parallels: Ep 1 "Beauty"

After a long...long road. Parallels is set to launch

I've spent over a year now with the Parallels web series. I started editing before I was even done shooting so you can imagine how long I have been sitting with this piece. The major holdup was the music, as funds were absolutely depleted during the production phase. Then, out of nowhere in late March I was contacted by a representative from Epidemic Sound on LinkedIn, of all places, that offered me 30 FREE MINUTES of music for the series that I can spread throughout the episodes. I couldn't hesitate on that. So after months of doing some self composing and trying to make sure I wasn't being scammed,  I am ready to launch. 

The original launch date was going to be in October of this year. With the varied demographic of characters and multiple story lines I wasn't so sure of WHO its audience would be. I was pushing it back to gain a better grasp of that blah blah blah. As my consultant Tony Clomax made me realize, What the hell are you waiting for? The Parallels audience wont be built through rigorous focus groups. It will be built by simply being shown. Throw it out there, whoever bites, is who The jUsB Movement and Parallels will feed. 

Its been a long road, but after this launch hopefully it will just be the beginning of a really awesome journey. Festivals, Screenings are all on my list of things to do for Parallels and I hope its well received.

LA Living

So, as I finished production on Parallels, I got engaged to my girlfriend, got my things together and we moved out to Los Angeles. Yup, with a web series in NY, and with not many connections out here, I am in LA. ​Talk about starting from scratch. Well, now its all about team building. So after a couple ads on Craigslist I've met a great videographer named Dioni Vasquez who will be working with me on the all new marketing campaign for the Parallels Web Series. ​I'm loving it here in LA and even though sometimes I get homesick (slightly) Ill be back in October to Launch the series. I'm planning the launch party as I type. Which isn't really possible but you get the point.
