Study in Scarlet - Grand Finale!
Unique in the annals of crime When Watson meets Holmes in his prime The case is a success Now they share an address You never forget your first time….
-=<+>=-
Scotland Yard was all in a panic, (Lestrade in particular, manic) A man turned up dead The murderer fled So they called in the duo dynamic…
-=<+>=-
The corpse lay convulsed on the floor (A fact they could see from the door) From "Rache" on the wall Holmes deduced he was tall The footprints around told him more…
-=<+>=-
Because of the pains that he took, Holmes read those prints like a book He threw himself down Right there on the ground (The police hadn't bothered to look)
-=<+>=-
Bobbies trampled the front of the house (Causing Holmes to continually grouse) He saw signs of a cab Which he knew they should nab "Three new shoes and one old", he pronounced
-=<+>=-
London has cab-horses galore And tracking the shoes that they wore? Lestrade looked distraught And grew sick at the thought As it seemed an impossible chore
-=<+>=-
So Holmes called up the Baker Street boys (Who filled Mrs Hudson's with noise) Holmes knew the Irregulars Were ever so better Than the cops that the city deploys.
-=<+>=-
Those laddies the city flew 'round Non-stop till the cabbie they found. They went to each stable Until they were able To run their poor quarry to ground.
-=<+>=-
Sherlock then called for the cab (That's how the murderer was nabbed) After the arrest The cabbie confessed And the story he told them was sad….
-=<+>=-
The victims were really the bad guys Who turned out to be Mormons - Surprise! They had to face fate (Which didn't come late) Since Justice approved their demise!
-=<+>=-
The old soldier is now a new writer. (And his spirits couldn't be any lighter) Holmes' cases he'll tell Their adventures as well And the future has never looked brighter!
-=<+>=-
Finis
-=<+>=-
But the end is just the beginning!
I'll be posting limericks like this for each case every few days! 🤞
If you have been enjoying these, it would mean a lot to me if you want to be on my limerick list ☘️

Many Men Have Been Wrongfully Hanged
Watson is still faithful to his ‘wife’ at the moment, and so I have supposed all the cases where he mentions his wife, however brief, must have occurred within the gap of 1888 and 1890: a very short time frame, admittedly, but I believe that Watson’s need and want to reference his fictional wife dwindled, due to events later described. For now, I believe the events of The Boscombe Valley happened in the summer of 1890, including a short introduction where Watson eats breakfast with his unnamed wife. Here is where I, the secretary, face a bit of trouble: in multiple of Holmes’ deductions, he deduces a change in Watson’s habits or lifestyle as a result of being married. Namely, in this adventure, Watson’s bathroom window is on the right-hand side; Holmes came to this conclusion as Watson’s facial hair, or beard, isn’t as neatly trimmed on his left side. I have decided (and, this belief is reiterated when needed throughout this narrative) that Watson might have had brief holidays from Baker Street to visit friends (such as Colonel Hayter from The Reigate Squires) or might have stolen inferences Holmes made in other stories to bolster the appearance that Watson wasn’t living at 221B.
After The Boscombe Valley, Watson is duly surprised in that same summer when he discovers that his intimate partner, who he has now known for almost a decade, has a brother. Mycroft Holmes is introduced in The Greek Interpreter already knowledgeable of Holmes’ and Watson’s true relationship- he is both a reader of Watson’s publications and one of the few people to know and understand Sherlock Holmes. Mycroft Holmes is also an incredible deductionist- there is little his brother can hide from him.
Initially, Holmes had planned never to introduce Watson to Mycroft Holmes: he was apprehensive as to whether or not Watson would be with him for so long, or if Mycroft might disapprove and cause trouble for the two of them, as that was well within his power. What Sherlock Holmes didn’t realise is that Mycroft was quite unconcerned with such trivial matters as the heart- why on Earth would he want to prevent the relationship? But as the years dragged on… and aforementioned fallouts occurred, Holmes completely forgot to tell Watson anything about his family. When Mycroft reached out to him himself, Holmes had little choice but to tell Watson about his secret brother.
Watson is somewhat not too appalled by Holmes’ secrecy, after learning of his elder brother’s power and the concerns this raised in the detective, so they are able to solve this case and move on.
Autumn comes, and Watson returns to Baker Street after visiting his practice to find Holmes engaged with a client: Mr Jabez Wilson. Now he learns the beginnings of what will be The Adventure of the Red-Headed League. Holmes briefly mentions ‘A Case of Identity’, a sign of the pair’s mutual understanding and respect, and so the story continues.
After Christmas, Holmes and Watson descend on a wild goose chase to find The Blue Carbuncle, after spending a peaceful celebration together at Baker Street- though of course Watson remembers that he will have to tell the public he only went there as a visit.
And so, Holmes and Watson feel they might be able to fall back into their old patterns, without revisiting the troubles of their past. That is until Holmes feels a ‘presence’. He’s recognised it long enough, but fought hard to ignore it. Now, at the start of a new year, 1891, he can’t help but admit that Professor Moriarty is upon him.

I was trying to find the part in The Six Napoleons when Watson squares up to the bust in Mr Hudson's shop. Instead, I came across a series of "Come, Watson" and found I couldn't resist. Holmes is a clingy cat and can not go anywhere without his Watson, or he falls apart. He needs his Watson, and that will forever be adorable to me

Watson snuggling into Holmes’s side.
(It’s actually not as clear in the gif, but I couldn’t find another one of this scene)
He does this TWICE in the same scene

Listen I love a Sherlock Holmes with self-worth issues and difficulty verbally expressing his deeper emotions as much as the next person, but consider: a Sherlock Holmes who knows he's in love with Watson -- a Watson who hasn't worked out his own feelings yet and who then goes and marries a woman. Consider, a Holmes who, when Watson finally does figure out his own feelings for Holmes, throws himself fully into showing his love for Watson. Consider, a Watson who is more hesitant to verbally express his love for Holmes -- to speak poetically and romantically of Holmes the way Holmes speaks of Watson (conductor of light, etc). Consider, a Holmes who makes Watson feel safe to step outside the strictures of expected Victorian gentleman behaviour, who does not think less of him for his disabilities, or for his softness.
