Since they're a bit younger in this fic (16), I won't be drawing anything as spicy as the art for Your Eyes are Red. It'll be more of an "oh no they fell on each other in the hallway at school uwu" or "they're in close proximity and BLUSHING" vibe ✨

I swear someone’s asked this question before, but I literally cannot find it and it’s driving me crazy so I am SO SO sorry for the repeat ask but how old are all the characters currently? Gaz, Dib, and Zim?

I’ve been assuming Gaz is like 16-17 and Dib is 18-19 and Zim is Zim and GIR is…whatever he is

I’m trying to get a friend into the series and they asked kinda surprised if Dib and Zim were still in highschool so I was trying to explain the whole held back a grade, Senior Year thing but I don’t wanna tell them the wrong info only for you to confirm it’s something else later aaa </3

Honestly I’d obsessively ask for ALL your personal character notes on them (not just ages…) but I feel like that’d be too much GIFFLES soooo just this!

Not me digging through my notes and drawings to see if I ever posted this because I can't remember either lmao.

Dib got held back sophomore year, so he's 19 and a senior in high school. Gaz is 17 and in her junior year.

The fic takes place in the spring - Dib's birthday is in December and Gaz's obviously has to be October, so they both kind of recently turned 19 and 17.

I always just assume Zim's age is the Irken equivalent of Dib's age.

Zim was gone a lot during sophomore year, so he had to repeat the grade due to the excessive absences (this is when he found out his mission was a lie/he's defective). Dib spiraled and failed a bunch of classes because Zim was constantly missing.

And I'm always happy to answer any questions! These messages are fun <3 If your friend ends up reading the fic, I hope they enjoy it!

Asking on anon because I’m afraid of you hating me, but is it demoralizing to ask when the next chapter of your AUs will come out? (Your Eyes Are Red, Cluster B)

I am in love with your story telling and world building, your characterization and attention to detail and the smooth flow of continuity with chapters.

But I don’t want to make you feel pressured by asking for new parts under your stories, as I’m sure others do. I experienced massive burnout myself (I’m also an author! You inspire me!) because of comments like that, and I guess I just wanna know your boundaries.

(Also I know you literally JUST updated cluster B sorry I’m just very excited EKEJEHO)

I don't considerate it demoralizing, and I definitely don't hate you for asking this <3 I really appreciate you being respectful about it!

I think the only time these questions become draining is when they lack that level of respect/acknowledgment of the amount of work that goes into writing and drawing. I know people ask because they're excited, and I'm so grateful to have readers who have stuck around through my many hiatuses, but sometimes the bluntness can be off-putting (like "do you have any art to post??" or "so is the chapter done yet??" with no other commentary to soften the message).

The next chapter for Your Eyes are Red will be up in a couple of weeks - I'm switching between that fic and Cluster B to keep my brain engaged, so I'm not sure when Cluster B will be updated, but likely in the next 2-3 weeks as well.

The burnout has been REAL, but messages like this one help a lot, so thank you. I wish you luck with your writing!! <3

I don't usually post non-fandom related content on this blog, but shit's going down here in the US. This isn't fear-mongering or an overreaction - this is a constitutional crisis.

To any of my fellow peeps here in the States, please get involved. I know it's scary, I know it's uncomfortable, I know it's easier to stay inside and doomscroll - but we're on the cusp of something horrific.

People are being abducted, ripped from their homes, their families, and disappearing. ICE raids are happening in every state. These fuckers are in my city, waiting outside of restaurants and concerts, blocking roads, pulling people out of their cars. There have even been reports of citizens having their legal status revoked.

If you're able, please join the protests. There will be thousands across the nation tomorrow for No Kings as well.

You can check for protests near you at mobilize.us - but DO NOT REGISTER OR INCLUDE YOUR PERSONAL INFO. Just show up.

Please keep in mind that these protests are largely peaceful. The agitators aren't the protesters. The media has painted these protests as "riots" and are using propaganda tactics to scare people out of joining. You will most likely be safe, but as a precaution, I've copied some tips below from activist groups:

What to Wear:

Comfortable clothes with neutral colors, preferably long sleeves and pants with some good, solid shoes. Layers are recommended. Sunglasses too!

Bonus points if you deck yourself out with the American flag. We're protesting because we love our country and want liberty and justice for ALL. Be patriotic, wave the fucking flag - make it harder for the media to spin the narrative that we're all a bunch of violent crazy people.

Wear a mask. Anyone telling you to NOT wear a mask is a fucking op, I swear to god. You're allowed to wear a mask. Protect yourself and your identity. If you don't feel comfortable wearing one, at least carry it on you. COVID is still very much a thing.

What to Bring:

WATER! Stay hydrated, bring snacks and electrolyte packets.

Ear plugs. Whether you get overstimulated easily or things get a bit sticky, these are important.

Sunscreen!!

Cash and ID.

If you're concerned about phone safety, turn it off before you leave your house. Airplane mode isn't as effective as keeping the entire device off. If you need to take your phone with you, keep it off and write phone numbers on your arm or something if you end up needing to contact friends/family. Turn off fingerprint/face recognition and have your code memorized.

Things to Consider:

I have to preface that I'm not advocating for violence or rioting. These protests are peaceful and we would all like for them to remain that way. However, given how the peaceful protesters were treated in LA, I'm including these tips here for those who want to be prepared:

Go with friends, if possible. Stay visible, stay together.

Don't wear jewelry.

Cover up tattoos and remove facial piercings.

Keep your hair tied back in a loose, low bun or a ponytail tucked under a hat or under your shirt collar.

Be careful wearing a backpack, as this can be grabbed or caught on things.

Tear gas will stick to lotions and makeup, so skip those (minus sunscreen, because you're way more likely to get sunburned than encounter tear gas). If you're exposed, flush the area with clean water or saline, NOT MILK, NOT BAKING SODA. Just water or saline. Get to safety and flush, flush, flush. When you remove the clothes, wrap them up and throw them away. Do not put them in your washing machine!

Rubber bullets will absolutely fuck you up. Don't mess around. If you want to be extra safe, bring a helmet and eye protection. I've also seen people bring DIY shields made of plastic lids and camping/yoga mats to absorb the shock. I can't recommend bringing these right off the bat because you'll look like "a problem," and I don't personally plan on bringing them, so use discretion when deciding what is safe/necessary. Do not go looking to start shit, but be prepared to defend yourself.

I've seen conflicting advice about recording stuff. It's important to spread awareness, but people are concerned about being tracked and identified later. Read up on your state laws and use discretion.

You might see videos advising protesters to sit down. Do. Not. Do. This. DO NOT. This is dangerous advice - stay on your feet, stay mobile, stay calm.

You have the right to protest peacefully, but if the police declare unlawful assembly, it's time to leave (editing to add that I personally think this is stupid - if a protest can be dismissed this easily, it doesn't seem like much of a protest. But if the cops tell people to go home and you choose to stay, just be prepared. Know your rights, stay together, don't get caught on bridges or in tunnels, etc).

If you're not in a position to join these protests, check with your local activist groups for ways you can show your support. Call your officials, send emails, share videos, and stay involved.

So I started writing notes for a species swap AU *just for fun* and I ended up with...a lot lol. Guess I've gotta write it now.

It's not overly plot-heavy - it'll mostly focus on Dib and Zim's interactions. The story will be kept pretty simple, since Your Eyes Are Red is a hefty boy that still needs my attention lol. But it'll be nice to have a side project that isn't as complex/long.

I'm not sure how to organize it yet? It can't be a one-shot, so maybe it'll be a separate work with stories that are 2-3 chapters each or something.

Anywho, the AU is called Blank Slate, and the first work is called Cluster B.

Here's the summary so far:

Dib’s first mission in the Irken Field Surveillance Unit isn’t glamorous. When the assignments were announced, his peers shook their heads, patted his shoulder, and half-heartedly said “there’s always next time,” while they murmured amongst themselves that the mission was a dud. His professor lamented over the order, called it a punishment for Dib’s interest in “real science,” and tried to cheer him up - but Dib wasn’t upset. It didn’t matter if the planet he was assigned to was essentially in galactic backwater, far away from everyone else and even further from any real civilizational development. Dib’s been itching for freedom in any form, and this planet, however simple, however boring, has granted his wish.

He’s expecting many things when he arrives on Earth. He did his research (well, with what little information he could find), and he always excelled in his training. He knows how to be quiet, calm; how to blend in and observe with excruciating detail. He even joins the public school system…

Only to be outed by a human on his first day.
