It was a brisk fall day in Burbank, California. I was walking along a sidewalk and noticed a bluebird perched on top of a no parking sign. The thought of this little bird patrolling the area on a Wednesday, making sure everyone was following the rules or else there’d be trouble, was funny to me. So I painted it!

It was on a trip with my brother. We were crossing the country to help him move back home. There was a moment when we were both looking out across the vast landscape somewhere between North Dakota and Montana headed west. A group of massive cloud formations were in front of us. Each one was like a mountain suspended in the air. My brother noticed and said “There is something about the clouds in this part of the country. They’re bigger here, and denser. The shapes seem more defined.” It was something I never thought about before, but as we passed under the levitating alabaster masses, I appreciated his observation.

It’s something that I’ve occasionally thought about. So I painted what has been swimming around in my mind. Those clouds really were huge!
