contain: slight angst word count: 872 notes: sorry for being so inactive everyone!! everything has been taking a toll on me and my mental health, I hope you could understand that!! song is “La Vie En Rose” by Louis Armstrong!!

Time does fly by quickly. You were packing your stuff, ready to leave the Polar Star dormitory. Unfortunately, you got expelled for having low grades. You sighed looking at your window, the rain was heavy but the school required you to leave instantly. A sigh escapes your lips as you see the acceptance letter in your drawer. Knocks echoed through your room.

"Y/n? are you there?" a voice asked from the other side of the door. None of your dorm mates knew you were expelled. You walked to the door and opened it. Revealing Megumi with a worried face. "Yes, Megumi? Did you need anything?" You smiled at the girl, blocking the view of your room. "You didn't come when I called you down for dinner." You put your hands together in an apologetic manner, "Sorry I didn't hear you, but I wasn't hungry anyway." She nods "I understand, sorry for disturbing you!" she then walks away.

You closed the door once again. As if sensing the mood, the clouds started pouring. Thunder was heard and the rain was harshly tapping against your window. Going to your vinyl player, you took out La Vie En Rose by Louis Armstrong and spun it. Backing away from your vinyl player, you slowly swayed to the instrumental.

"Hold me close and hold me fast, the magic spell you cast. this is la vie en rose."

You sang, holding a spatula as a makeshift microphone. A smile creeping up your face as you imagine yourself in his arms. "But there's someone else in his arms already." you thought to yourself. 

"When you kiss me, Heaven sighs. And though I close my eyes, I see la vie en rose."

Your dormmates heard a song playing from upstairs, they decided to check it out. Going up the stairs, they see the light in your room seep through the cracks of the door.

"When you press me to your heart. I'm in a world apart. A world where roses bloom."

They turned to each other as they heard you sing and smiled. Shun held out his hand towards Ryoko. She blushed and put her hand on it, "May I have this dance?" Shun jokes. Ryoko smiled, "I'd never say no to you." With that, they started dancing outside your door.

"And when you speak, angels, sing from above. Everyday words seem to turn into love songs."

Everyone soon joined in the dancing and enjoyed themselves, forgetting why they went up here in the first place. While you spun around by yourself in your room, enjoying the moment. Then you heard laughter outside of your door, you then knew you had an audience. By the clicking of shoes against the floor, you assumed they were dancing. "I never knew you were such a good dancer Shun" you hear Ryoko compliment, "I learned from someone," he replied to the girl.

"Give your heart and soul to me. And life will always be, La vie en rose."

You stopped singing letting the song end. Smiling about what Shun said to Ryoko, "He remembers that?" you thought to yourself as you reminisced the time where you taught him to dance. As the song ended, you opened your door and saw everyone enjoying their time.

"You guys enjoyed that?" she jokes at them and they nodded. Yuki clapped her hands and smiled, "you sound exactly like Meraki!". You stiffened at her comment, "I could never sound that amazing..". Yuki showed you a thumbs up, "You sound amazing!" Satoshi then cut in, "It's late, let's sleep."

Everyone agreed and were heading to their dorm rooms, you greeted them goodnight and went inside your room again. You had to leave by tonight. Finishing your packing, you dragged your suitcase and put on your backpack then head out to the main area. "Y/n-san" a voice came from behind you as you were about to reach for the door.

"Fumio-san, you waited for me?" you turned to the old woman, tears starting to form. She spread her arms wide open and you let go of your suitcase and ran into her arms, hugging her tightly. "Fumio-san, I don't want to go yet." She wraps her arms around you and places her hand on atop your head, "Oh, my dear Y/n.." It was sad if we're going to be truthful. Fumio-san was your mother figure throughout everything. She knew everything and she was the only one who knew about this. "I have to go" you pulled away sadly, she smiles at you with tears in her eyes. "I'm proud of you." Tears rolled off your cheeks, "Fumio-san, you don't have to.." "It's the truth, now go before it reaches midnight."

You nod and hug her one last time. Picking up your suitcase and going to the door, you opened it and left the dormitory. You rushed to the gate, not wanting to prolong this anymore. Opening the gate, you left the dormitory grounds. Looking back with a sad smile, you then went down the road, in hopes to find a cab.

You waved at your dormmates, bidding them good night. "But you won't be able to listen to the Meraki Radio," Isshiki said to you with his head tilted. "It's my bedtime, I plan to wake up early tomorrow. Goodnight everyone.", you rushed to your bedroom once out of everyone's view. Entering and locking your bedroom door, you panted. You clenched your fists and remembered the scene that caused you to run to your room.

Ryoko and Shun were talking while you secretly stared at them. His hand moving towards her face and tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. Her beautiful giggles echoed in the dining area as she blushed. You fully supported them, even if you liked Shun. He then catches your gaze and nods at you. You gave him a thumbs up to signify that he should continue doing what he was doing. He turned back to Ryoko as you sighed to yourself and went to Megumi to help her from Souma.

You sighed as you heard your alarm ring. Pressing snooze, you went to your chair and sat down. You eyed the headphones in front of you and hesitated to go on air. "They're expecting me— no, they're expecting Meraki." you thought to yourself and put on the headphones. Adjusting your mic, you then went on air.

"Hello again everyone, it's Meraki!" you exclaimed and saw the replies everyone posted on your site. "I decided that I'm going to sing for you guys a new song that I recently produced," you told your audience. "I hope you enjoy!" you say and played the track that you made.

"You call me on the telephone, you feel so far away. You tell me to come over, there's some games you wanna play. I'm walking to your house, nobody's home. Just me and you and you and me alone"

Your dorm mates were cheering downstairs as you continued to sing.

"We're just playing hide and seek. It's getting hard to breathe under the sheets with you. I don't want to play no games. I'm tired of always chasing, chasing after you"

Closing your eyes, you let the tears flow, not resisting it at all. "Is Meraki crying..?" Yuki said in surprise as her eyes read the comments while listening.

The scene between Ryoko and Shun replayed in your head as if it was a broken record. Clenching your fists, you continued to sing.

"I don't give a fuck about you anyways. Whoever said I gave a shit 'bout you? You never share your toys or communicate. I guess I'm just a play date to you"

You opened your eyes and saw the comments, seeing everyone was worried about you. Smiling after reading them, you continued singing.

"Wake up in your bedroom and there's nothing left to say. When I try to talk you're always playing board games. I wish I had monopoly over your mind. I wish I didn't care all the time."

It was true, you wished you didn't care about Shun all the time. You have fallen for him since middle school, he plagued your mind.

"I don't give a fuck about you anyways. Whoever said I gave a shit 'bout you? You never share your toys or communicate. I guess I'm just a play date to you"

Shun decided to leave the rest, saying he was sleepy. Ryoko smiled at him and bid him goodnight and sweet dreams. Hiding his blush, he nodded at her and left Marui's room.  

"Ring around the rosy. I never know, I never know what you need. Ring around the rosy, I wanna give you, wanna give you. What you need"

He passed your room and heard the same song on Meraki Radio. He didn't think it was weird at first until he heard the singing from your room. Peeking in quietly, he saw you with a mic and headphones on.

"I don't give a fuck about you anyways. Whoever said I gave a shit 'bout you? You never share your toys or communicate. I guess I'm just a play date to you"

Lies, lies, they're all lies. You loved him. You did give a fuck about him. Even if it's just a playdate, you wanted to spend more time with him. You wanted him, but he was too far away. Relaxing your shoulders and wiping away your tears, you sang the last lines.

"You know I give a fuck about you every day. Guess it's time that I tell you the truth. If I share my toys, will you let me stay? Don't wanna leave this play date with you"

You sighed finishing the song and stopped the track from replaying.

"Thank you, everyone, for listening to Meraki Radio today. I hope you understand that I will be ending the Radio earlier than expected due to personal reasons. Thank you and goodnight."

You went off air and heard the door shut. Shun immediately dashed to his room. He was such an idiot, how could he have not noticed? He is your best friend. The mic on your shelf, you staying up all night to make "recipes" at your room, and of course— you excusing yourself every time Meraki Radio was on. Other than you being Meraki of the Meraki Radio; something was wrong.

It wasn't unusual to hear your loud voice every time there was a pillar meeting. The other pillars even got used to your babbling, even Obanai handled your noise, but there was one who couldn't handle it. Sanemi's eye twitched when he heard your voice in the distance. "Sanemi-kun! Wait for me, you're going too fast!" you exclaimed. At the sound of your voice, he walked faster to the headquarters, ignoring your exclaims.

He entered the garden and saw the rest, "boo!" you whispered into his ear. He suddenly flinched as you giggled at his reaction, "sorry, Sanemi-kun! have you eaten today, how was your mission, was it hard? Probably not, you ARE the wind pillar after all. You're probably hungry right now, hold on."

You held out a bento wrapped in a gray handkerchief. The other pillars were staring at him, sad for the girl. They already knew what was going to happen. You smiled brightly at him with hope in your eyes "It's a bento I made-" he slapped it out of your hand. "I DON'T NEED YOU TO CARE FOR ME, YOU NOISY BITCH" he shouted, he had enough of you. The bento was on the floor, thankfully, it didn't spill out. "ah.." you smiled at him and picked the bento up from the ground "okay Sanemi-kun, got it" you smiled brighter at him.

You then approached the other pillars with a bright smile as they looked worriedly at you. "Y/n-chan! are you alright?" Mitsuri grabbed your shoulders and you nodded "Mitsuri-chan, I'm used to it." She just looks at you with worry etched on her face, she knew you were insecure about your talkativeness. "The master is here" Hinaki and Nichika announced and everyone bowed, as the pillar meeting started.

"Y/n and Sanemi" Ubuyashiki called out after the other pillars left. "Yes, master?" you looked at him with a smile "I have a mission for the both of you."  

You and Sanemi were walking in a ghost town, looking for the demon that caused so many deaths of fellow demon slayers. "I'll take the west side, check the east" he ordered "Okay Sanemi-kun, take care!" you exclaimed as he ignored you while walking to the west. You went to the east side and readied your blade. "They sent another one, a pretty one too" the demon appeared in front of you with a wicked grin on his face. You frowned at his comment and proceeded to fight him. After a few minutes of fighting, you finally decapitated his head but something felt wrong. Looking down, you see your blood dripping. You immediately felt blood dripping from your throat and your vision started to flicker. You waited for Sanemi to return for you but then, black took over your vision.

Sanemi walked into the garden with an uneasy feeling, something wasn't right. He saw every pillar present except you, he was supposed to feel happy, right? He didn't even bother to look for you when he finished the west side during the mission. The twins entered the garden announcing the arrival of the master. He bowed along with everyone else, even greeting the master good wishes. "As you may have noticed, Y/N isn't present but she will join after a few moments" Ubuyashiki announced and continued the pillar meeting. Ubuyashiki was right, you soon joined the meeting wearing a kimono and standing beside Ubuyashiki with a bandage wrapped around your neck.

"Y/n will be retiring as a pillar" everyone but Sanemi and Shinobu gasped. "I tried convincing her of not retiring but she insisted with all her might." He explained and dismissed the meeting, letting the rest interact with you. You waved at Mitsuri as she hugged you while sobbing "y/n-chan, don't leave us!" she sobbed while patting her back. You broke the hug and smiled at her then interacted with the others. You saw Sanemi in the distance and excused yourself from the rest.

Approaching Sanemi, you tapped his shoulder and smiled brightly at him. "How could you smile?" he said in a serious tone, "I LEFT YOU ALONE AND DIDN'T BOTHER TO HELP YOU! HOW COULD YOU SMILE AT ME!" he shouted causing the attention to go towards them. "how could you...after all the shit I've done to you.." he whispered up grabbing your shoulders. You pointed at yourself then your heart then at him, with the biggest smile. He chuckled softly "Even without your voice, you still manage to be noisy about your feelings for me.." he muttered not caring how his soft side is showing. You pet his head and hugged him after. It seemed like the gods gave you a miracle, he hugged you back.
