And just like that I’ve finished my first reread of Fourth Wing and fully annotated for the first time! I still gotta trim them down though cause they are L O N G
Wowowow I forgot how amazing this book was to read, had me getting giddy and excited all over again just like I did the first time I read it. Sooo many thoughts I’m gonna go into later but a rough summary of what I’ve been thinking. WE. WERE. DUMB. AND. BLIND.
This book I kid you not foreshadows SO MUCH of the plot in Iron Flame AND Onyx Storm I was baffled by how much there was. I read this book the first time and had the audacity to be surprised by certain events in Iron Flame and Onyx Storm as if I hadn’t just read the most blatant foreshadowing ever 😭 so amazing though, it will always be a 10/10 in my eyes so much so that I hope Yarros decides to bring back certain elements from this book into the fourth! Don’t get me wrong I love all the books, but I really want to see more longing and tension the way it’s depicted in the first book. Very surprised I didn’t fully run out of any annotating colors, I had ONE piece left for my “important”

CAN WE PLEASEEEE TALK ABOUT THESE BOOKS
Never in all my years since reading have I discovered any community around these books and truly.. that’s disappointing. This duo is by far one of my favorite books I have ever read, a masterpiece, the only books I’ve reread more than once. From character development to plot, they are amazing and I could not recommend them enough
So PLEASE I am actually begging if you’ve read them let me know I’m dying to talk about them with someone

I keep seeing people giving fourth wing/iron flame/onyx storm like 3/5 stars or 2/5 stars and consistently hating on her writing but not the plot. BUT LIKE, WHATS WRONG WITH THE WRITING I THINK ITS GREAT??
Yes occasionally there’s some grammatical mistakes or things repeated, however, is that not fairly normal? Especially for the situation she got put in!! Essentially given one year to write a phenomenal book in a genre that she’s just starting to dip her feet into? I feel she’s done fantastic but please I wanna hear opinions on her writing 😭

I absolutely KNOW that what you wrote was amazing. They fit it way to perfectly for it to not have been 😭This quote and their relationship has inspired me so much for my own writing

I just saw someone talking about how Rebecca Yarros needs to come out with a book that is the the Codex and I think it’s such an amazing idea.
Make it a special edition almost like how HTTYD did with the book of dragons! Something small that maybe has some illustrations within it of some of the most important dragons to the story or of the first six!

Alright guys, started rereading Fourth Wing today and being only 50 pages in I’m noticing SO MANY MOMENTS OF FORESHADOWING that I had never thought of before. I’m literally in shock with this amount of stuff Rebecca Yarros laid in front of us like a buffet and we turned a blind eye. The venin? RIDOC BEFORE WE KNOW HIM?? Xaden???? Imogen?? Sgaeyl literally showing interest in Violet before we ever know anything about her or Tairn??
And let me just say, I wish she would’ve castrated Jack Barlowe when she had the chance, maybe lack of testosterone would’ve made him slightly less obnoxious

Reading Onyx Storm has me wanting to draw semi-realistic dragons again <333 I forgot how much fun it is playing with the shapes of them! Hope you enjoy the drawing

In quiet moments like these right now, I relive every moment of the books, like I'm soaking it in for the first time all over again.
I hate book hangovers. I feel empty and alone like I've been stripped of part of what makes me, me. I'd give almost anything in the world to experience these magics, to be atop a dragon in the sky? I've dreamed of it before, each one a burned memory that I hold on to in fear the ashes will fade away with the wind
I feel pathetic saying it out loud

I wanna see more people talking about this because I could not agree more. I don't often cry over character deaths specifically, many times, I see them coming and can mentally prepare for them. HOWEVER, this character's death truly made me cry, and I hardly knew anything about them aside from their signet. The ability to write people to emotion over a character of such little importance shows so much talent
MASSIVE ONYX STORM SPOILERS BELOW:
Honestly Rebecca Yarros was so smart to write Quinn's death the way that she did. Not only was it awesome to get Imogen's POV but she used it to make a minor character's death that much more impactful.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I at least was never super attached to Quinn as a character. I liked her, sure, but she was always just a very minor character. If told from anyone else's perspective, I honestly would not have cared that much about her death.
And yet I was sobbing my eyes out reading her death, specifically because it was told from Imogen's POV. Because while I didn't care about her that much, Imogen did. In that moment I forgot that we barely knew anything about Quinn. It didn't matter that she'd been mentioned maybe twice in the book up to that point. I was experiencing that loss with Imogen.
"We really did make it a good one."
