LET THEM
How often do you find yourself overly exhausting your mind by stressing out, trying to change your boyfriend's behavior, feeling frustrated when someone doesn’t act the way you want them to, or worrying about what others think of you? What if I told you you can live stress-free and have that emotional independence? Do you want to know the secret? Instead of exhausting yourself worrying about other people’s behavior or opinions, you just let them be. That’s the idea behind Mel Robbins's Let Them Theory, and like it did for me, it might work for you and change how you navigate relationships, friendships, or any aspect of your life. The Let Them Theory, according to 15 million people, is a “life-changing mindset hack.” it has two steps. As described by Mel Robbins in her podcast, The first step is when someone is stressing you out, annoying you, making you worry or feel bad about yourself, or hurting you…you’re just going to think or say, “let them.” That releases any control you don’t have over the situation. And you’re going to shift your mindset to “let me,” reminding yourself that in life and this moment, there are only three things you can control. You can control what you think about, what you do/don’t do, and control your emotions. Will you allow yourself to feel them, or will you let them run you over?
Let Them Theory “reveals people for who they truly are, and when you see them for their true colors, we can decide what WE want to do next.” You can find her podcast, where she goes into depth on the Let Them Theory, here:
Here is a shorter clip of her briefly explaining the theory:
Having this mindset has freed me from emotional dependency. I’ve stopped chasing people who didn’t reciprocate the same energy in me, I’ve let go of worrying about what others think of me, and I’ve learned to shift all that time and energy into working on what I can control, myself.
That said, think of a time when you exerted yourself out of time and energy trying to change someone. Would the outcome have been different if you had just let them?
