Barry and the Blueberry: Part 1

"Good morning, Universe!" Hopping onto the floor, Barry Brightfold greets the morning with a cheerful twitter. "What day was it today, again…? Oh yeah! Market day!" Changing out of his pajamas, Barry dashes downstairs to meet his family for breakfast. "Morning, Mama!" "Good morning, my little Blueberry! My, don't you look sprightly this morning?" Now giddy himself, Barry leaped into the room and called, "Is that my favorite Bella?" A shriek, then, "Barry!" accompanied by Bella padding straight towards her older brother. Grinning ear to ear, Barry scoops her up for a good twirl. Barry eventually set her down onto the floor and, Barry's father (standing just outside twirl radius) chuckled, "I see you're ready for your big day, Blueberry. Care to brief me on your plan, again?" "Of course, Captain." However, before he could start, Barry felt a tug on his shirt. "Spell first, Barry. Spell first." Landing on a counter top, the crow then used its beak to pick up a pebble from a bowl of stones. Hmm… I am no longer sure what exactly it is that I am doing at the particular moment. Reading revealed the importance of learning from one's peers; an idea can take root and grow if given the time of day…. Lex Luthor once said that some people might read Tolstoy's War and Peace and come away thinking it was a simple adventure story, while some people can read the ingredients on the back of a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe. If we desire to live a life that means something, I think we need to start thinking… a lot. Speaking with oneself may be a method by which one may practice conversing with others, whilst also providing a cognitive avenue for internal deliberation.

I do not desire to live a life centered only on myself. Thus, one stance we may take when facing life's challenges is to consider how one can make each and every situation in one's life benefit others in some way. Whether that be the people in one's immediate or future vicinity is up to the person to decide, but if we want to actually do something that helps others, we need to learn to think what is best for others, I think.

What is best for others? I believe that would constitute, in some capacity, their long term happiness. Yes, short-term joy can be incredibly important, but just as exerting oneself to exercise, study, or love can be trying at times, it is not always the case that providing temporary joys to others is the path to greater happiness across their lives. Sometimes, guiding someone onto the right path can take effort. But do you know what the secret magic spell of everything is…?

Humans have a tendency to do what feels good. July 4th, 2023 (Tuesday)

Wowee-zowee... what a day! My grandfather and I visited Ueno, Japan today, and it was an absolute BLAST! 💥

We left home at around 9:30 in the morning, then took a bus-train combo to arrive at Ueno Station. The weather was really nice, and before we went into the Tokyo National Museum (TNM), I got to pose the thinker pose with a giant The Thinker replica! What a DAY!!! Arriving at the TNM, I found out that there was an entry fee, but "Fret not!" said the Universe, "Because university students get half-off their tickets! And people over 70 can go in. For. FREEEEE!"

*Ahem* Anyway, the museum was delightful, with multiple floors of pristinely preserved exhibits. An interesting observation my grandfather made was that many of the artistic exhibits (maybe around 50~60%) were created for religious reasons. Buddhism was chiefly portrayed, but there were quite a few important Confucianism pieces, as well. It would seem that religion really does play an important role in society. (Reading the Mistborn Trilogy might really help drive this point home.)

I really enjoyed my day with my grandfather at the museum, and I'm extremely excited for what I will be doing tomorrow: researching and planning more of my trip.
