Our of curiosity about Vestra and Lana. Why did they decide on Vestra carrying their first child. I know most fans of your work joke about the 'oh god that's a possible trainwreck considering hormones and Vestra's Vestranesss'
But I'm curious how they'd come to that decision, was Lana not able to carry for some reason in your hc? (Be it temporarily or permanent) Or did Vestra really want to carry?/Lana didn't want to? Some other reason?
ahh very good question and perfect chance to straighten out my thoughts. thenk nonny!! (also i love the term ‘vestraness’ lmaoo)
To start, I must first present: GRAAAANDPAPPY KHEM VAL!!!!!!!

Ok but seriously, I’ve written the jokey thing where Khem’s the first to broach the subject of children right. It’s been years and I’ve tweaked things since then (mainly Khem’s mindset), but that’s actually, really the start of it.
He doesn’t just plant the idea of children in their heads, it’s the idea of a lineage. He emphasises heavily on Vestra being the legacy of Kallig, and her responsibility of continuing their bloodline, which he deems worthy of keeping alive. (After all, despite being defeated in the end, Kallig was regarded as the most dangerous of my rivals’ by Tulak Hord.)
Both Lana and Ves don’t care about bloodlines - in that Kallig’s blood must be passed down. But (funnily enough) it ended up being one deciding factor among a couple of others.
Lana doesn’t have some great Sith heritage, being the child of regular citizens. But she was raised in a society that places great importance on Sith legacies, so while she is glad to have a child anyway, she does see how ‘meaningful’ it would be for Ves to carry the child.
On the other hand, Ves is dismissive of the idea of continuing a bloodline she’d never even known before Lord Kallig himself slammed her on the floor like a fucking toy. She kinda hates it when Khem talks about bloodlines like that, but then Lana mentions the child won’t be Kallig’s. It'll be hers.
What eventually warms Ves to the idea of carrying is that, even if she would continue a legacy, it wouldn’t be in Kallig’s name. It’ll be Lenshe - for her father. Her non-Sith father who held her when she was scared as a child, who snuck her his meagre rations even when he was starved thin working in the mines. She’ll have children out of love, as she was raised, not out of Sith duty and obligation.
Also by this time, Ves would’ve progressed much in her Mental Health Journey™ and has a more sustainable workload in the Alliance (vs in the Empire), so she is mentally and physically in a better place to focus on carrying the child to term.
(+ additional point I’ve not decided on yet: Ves’ spiritual healing may or may not weaken her power in the Dark Side of the Force. If it does, then Ves will probably volunteer more readily because she recognises Lana can better protect her if someone does come after them during this vulnerable period.)
I also hc that Lana is…not…completely comfortable with the idea of being pregnant? Like, Vestra is totally able to talk her into it, and she would happily do it for her wife, but she would prefer not to if possible. (Ves carries both their children!)
Also also, I’m using sci-fi science-y stuff to let the children be of their DNA, so the minutiae of whose blood is being passed on is honestly just a matter of semantics and traditional (outdated?) beliefs. But they do discuss it in my fic canon, and it goes along this bloodline angle SO. There ya go!!!

New prompt list?

For Solistre please -
6. how do they wear their hair? do they care a lot how their hair looks? (We know how she wears it during but does the style differ pre and post story?)
13. what languages do they speak? how fluently?
28. how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don't like someone?
32. do they have any habits that aren't particularly self-destructive, just maybe odd?
33. if applicable, how would your other characters describe them? i mean specifically the people around them. (Moreso how d'you think the other party members would describe her including Minthara if she was around?)
34. how would your character describe themselves? it doesn't have to line up with how they really are.
ooookay i am a month late cos my brain did a wet fart and refused to talk to me so. anyway. thenk for waiting <3 (and for asking of cos!!)
6. how do they wear their hair? do they care a lot how their hair looks? (We know how she wears it during but does the style differ pre and post story?)
Sol keeps her hair long, like most in drow society. She likes her hair, but doesn’t care too much to have elaborate care rituals, wears it simply. Back in ol’ Menzobenzo, it’s always combed neatly and often tied back, with the occasional ornament.

She was a mess when she escaped to the surface, but after being emo for a couple of years, she was like ‘-big sigh- if I’m gonna be here I might as well try a little’. (we know how she looks in bg3 but i love her so we will look at her AGAIN.)

After they kill the big tentacled brain, I like to imagine Sol shaving either one or both sides of her head. It’s been kind of a hassle with all the blood and dirt and sweat you know? Might as well take off some of the weight. And also accompany Shadowheart on her first haircut in memory. She experiments with shorter lengths in the years after, but I think she’d gravitate back to having long hair in the end.

BONUS NO ONE ASKED FOR: AU Sol who crawls back to Lolth post-game loses her last fuck and wears her hair short to embrace her position as Lolth’s pet, part-revered and part-reviled. If she’s gonna be treated like an oddity apart from society, might as well look like one, and wear it as a ‘fuck you’ to everyone who treats her differently.

13. what languages do they speak? how fluently?
Drow (including sign) and Undercommon, with a native speaker’s fluency. She can understand Duergarn, but cannot speak it well (so prefers not to).
The Eilistraeean temple taught her Elvish and Common to live on the surface, and she’s fluent after speaking it for a decade. She’s adopted a common Elvish accent, but her sharper Drow accent will surface when she’s agitated.
Shadowheart knows to run towards her when she starts [speaking Elvish in Drow].
28. how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don't like someone?
Attention and service. She doesn’t like getting attached to people, but when she does, she’ll watch over you. She won’t quite know how to offer her companionship, but if you ask for it, you will receive it. If you need help, she is ready and willing.
I think the silent killer would be her day-to-day attentiveness though. She has a habit of observing and memorising the habits and routines of those around her. Any little deviation would catch her attention quickly. If you’re in a bad way and she cares, she’ll do something to smooth over your shitty day. e.g. Shadowheart unable to do her daily prayers due to injury. A little jar of balm or an extra potion of healing/sleep will inexplicably appear beside her bedroll.
Oh, it’s easy to see when she doesn’t like someone. That good old drow callousness is unfettered by her surface sensibility. She barely acknowledges you. When she has to talk to you, it’s with disdain. You could be bleeding out in front of her and she’d just be ‘Don’t slow us down.’
32. do they have any habits that aren't particularly self-destructive, just maybe odd?
[Context: I hc that D&D elf ears are expressive. Twitches and some angling are common.]
Sol keeps her ears stiffly angled a bit lower than their natural positions out of habit (unconsciously, sort of like tense shoulders or clenched jaws). She was raised and lived under a great deal of scrutiny, and the constant stress and hyperawareness made her lock her ears in place (like standing at attention).
Fun tidbit: Shadowheart’s the first person to notice Sol’s ears twitching briefly when she’s surprised or Feeling Things. Cos it’s part of her Sharran training to watch people and notice their habits. She is only practising her techniques by watching Sol so closely. Yeah.
33. if applicable, how would your other characters describe them? i mean specifically the people around them. (Moreso how d'you think the other party members would describe her including Minthara if she was around?)
Shadowheart: Broody, grouchy, homicidal. A real charmer. In all seriousness - she is decisive, her blades vicious and quick. Though quiet and reticent, she is a steadfast ally, absent of guile. I’m glad to have her watching my back. And I couldn’t ask for a more patient, considerate lover.
Wyll: An elegant and delightful dance partner! Let everyone else sing praises for her skill with the blade. What matters most to me is the woman behind the fighter - and does this woman have a loyal heart, and a beautiful smile.
Gale: Her cold exterior guards a warm heart. She is slow to trust, but quick to the aid of those who have earned it. A worthwhile ally to have, and a cherished friend besides. Now, if she were more diligent in her study of magic… -Sol flashing a knife in the distance- No, nevermind.
Karlach: A softie is what she is. Yeah, she likes to grumble and growl and wave those daggers around, but when she likes you, she likes you. She saved my teddy bear once. That’s all you need to know.
Lae’zel: A worthy warrior, and a sharp strategist. She would make a good commander if she did not cling to the shadows, like a rat scurrying in the dark. But she serves well with blade and wits, and has proven fit to survive.
Astarion: Ugh, a grumpy little downer. She complains about the sun constantly as if it isn’t a privilege to walk under it. Still, she is useful to have in our motley group of weirdos. I wouldn’t want to turn my back on her though…just in case.
Jaheira: Ah, the cub who growls and hisses and scratches at you, then nuzzles her head into your hand when you don’t flinch. Pay no heed when she puffs her chest, but watch her defend those around her. That is a guardian to any who enters her brood.
Minsc: She is smart and slippery, and charges into battle with such boldness that almost rivals Minsc’s! Boo warns of carelessness, but Minsc is ready to catch her before she injures herself in the excitement of glorious battle!
Halsin: A subtle leader. She is discreet at first glance, but observe the group for a time, and you will see its members looking to her for direction. It speaks much of one to be quiet, yet possess a voice that others heed willingly.
Minthara: She is skilled and sharp of mind. But her gifts are wasted as an aimless blade for hire on the surface. She could accomplish much in her life if she applied herself - and heeded the words of those her wiser. She would do well to follow me back to Menzoberranzan and free our city from Lolth’s tyranny- -cue Sol screeching and jumping on her and trying to rip her eyes out-
34. how would your character describe themselves? it doesn't have to line up with how they really are.
“I am drow and an excellent assassin. Now fuck off.”
She has never liked to talk about herself, and quite literally has nothing to talk about after coming to the surface, because she doesn’t want to dig up old pains. So that’s all you’re gonna get, buddy!!!
But to dig a little deeper, she only describes herself by her profession because that’s what her identity was built around in Menzo. She was taught that utility is the most important thing about her. What she can do, not who she is.

A/N: Post-BG3 domesticity. [Shadowheart/f!Tav]
The crescent moon hangs high among the stars when Shadowheart finally returns home. She is drained, her muscles dulled from a day of unexpected work, her mind peacefully emptied of thought – save for that of her bed. Or couch. Whichever her body chooses to collapse in.
As she closes the door, turning the lock with an audible click, her ears prick at the rapid footfalls moving towards her from the corridor. She turns around, adrenaline injecting an extra sliver of energy into her veins, tensed and ready to deal with an intruder.
She relaxes when her wife pops into the living room, that long mane of white hair streaming behind her.
She tenses again when she realises her wife is sprinting towards her at top speed, and shows no sign of slowing–
"Wait–!" Shadowheart raises her hands in a futile bid to stop the living drow projectile, who leaps forward and hurtles through her open arms with a velocity to rival their owlbear racing for its food tub.
Solistre’s entire weight crashes into Shadowheart, forcing her to stumble back until they hit the door with a heavy thud. With a muffled groan against Solistre’s shoulder, Shadowheart wraps both arms around her wife, as nimble legs lock around her waist.
“Sol, what in blazes–” She pushes off from the door where she is pinned back at an awkward angle. Straightening herself, she adjusts Solistre’s weight in her arms, and looks the drow dead in the eyes. “What was that for?”
“You said the dogs greet you better than I do, so…” Solistre drags her tongue in a long line up Shadowheart’s cheek. “Welcome back.”
She accepts the wet greeting with a grimace, not bothering to tilt her face away. If Solistre has decided her tongue will meet Shadowheart’s cheek, then it will. No mortal nor god exists who can stop her in mischief. “You decided to greet me like a dog?”
“Trust me, if I had a tail, I’d be wagging it right now.”
Shadowheart sighs, simmering exasperation quelled by Solistre’s grin. “I believe you.”
Carrying her wife with ease, she walks carefully through the sea of fur that had come streaming after the drow, and are now huddled around her legs with barks, meows, and squeaks. She lowers Solistre slowly to the floor, where their pets part to make room for her.
“Just a kiss would’ve sufficed, you know.”
“Then you should’ve said so, hm?”
“Well, I’m telling you now.” She clutches Solistre to herself as they meet in a warm kiss, angling herself so the saliva drying on her face wouldn’t smear onto Solistre. Even if it is her own. And she deserves it.
Solistre smiles up at her when they part. “Long day?”
“What gave it away?” Shadowheart deadpans.
The temple had sent for her help when half the local guard patrol showed up at their doors, torn and bloody, escorting wounded civilians from a vicious bandit raid. Shadowheart answered their call immediately, and was kept longer at the temple of Helm when the second half of the patrol showed up, this time with their fallen comrades’ bodies and the remaining civilians.
Solistre had tried reaching her at the temple when night fell, but was shooed away by an incredibly harried and distracted Shadowheart, who’d barely had time to spare her a glance while tending to the wounded.
Now she realises why Solistre had looked for her. The aroma of a warm dinner teases her nose – the one she had chased away earlier – and her dry mouth starts to water. Solistre chuckles when her eyes drift towards the kitchen.
“Go on and wash up. I’ll have your dinner ready.”
Shadowheart kisses her cheek. “I love you.”
“Of course you do,” Solistre croons, a lopsided curve on her lips. “Or I would’ve poisoned your food.”

Love is the cruellest of lies used by Lady Shar's foes. It is a disease. It is arson. A destructive flame, offering fleeting light and comfort to the one who feeds it. Remember that all these false comforts will betray you in the end. Only the sacred nothingness will endure.
