i cant be the only one who finds it incredibly funny that theres (to my knowledge) not a single colony sim that simulates capitalism within the colony. there is frequently inter-colony trading and currency, but never inside of it.

oxygen not included's dupes have no currency and no ruling class. rimworld lets you run an honest-to-Horax organ farm but the people running the organ farm work for the common good of the organ farm, the alternative is impossible. dwarf fortress, the granddaddy of them all, used to have capitalism but it caused infinite baby debt and fps death so now dwarves yet again work according to their ability and receive according to their need

could there be a colony sim that had capitalism within the colony? maybe. would it be fun? absolutely fucking not, it would suck massive ass, i would like my colony sims to stay commie and actually fun to play

well see. i dont know how genetics work in the first sims 1 and im assuming there wasnt a lot because i mean they looked like this

technology improved so towards sims 2 they tried something new. they went for the most realistic (well i mean. as much as the sims can be.) genetics so far -and still to this day- in the franchise. the basic mendel peas they taught you in middle school. thats right. homozygots and heterozygots were a thing in the sims 2, if you had a sim with root colors different to bottom the game would pass on the root colors and even if you changed the appearance later the game would remember the original looks to pass on, etc

but the simmers had a big complaint: townies and sims you created without parents were homozygots, which scandalously meant that if they had brown eyes, black hair or otherwise dark skin, they couldn't have whiter looking children. not only that, the population of people with those traits would spread *too much*. normal complaints to have. you know

So the later games discarded that majorly. around %90 by sims 3 and by sims 4 all babies were patchwork babies between their direct parents only, anything by grandparents were by chance, the game accommodating to lighter traits as much as possible
