South Park canon is something you have to cherry pick specific moments, episodes, etc for whatever narrative you’re going for, because if you tried to put every piece together, you’d find not all of them even fit.

The people who get sanctimonious about fucking SOUTH PARK canon never fail to astound me when it's clear that the creators don't give two shits about consistency. In the first few seasons characters were constantly rotating names and houses. Not to mention that retcons have been abound since the series' inception.

Anyways for people who get upset over head canons that aren't 100% canon compliant, and insist that they're AU's, do I have news for you. YOU ARE WRITING AUs TOO. That's because it's NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to be totally canon compliant with all the forgotten details and contradictions the show has.

If you've ever written a fic/drawn fanart with Butters post-season 8, and didn't portray him missing an eye, or with at least a scar? Your creation is an AU.

If you've ever portrayed Kyle eating sugar without a care in the world, and not monitoring his blood sugar? Congrats, you've portrayed an AU.

Or if you've written ANYTHING set post the season 1 episode pinkeye, that doesn't clarify how the entire town came back from the dead after the kids murdered and cut up their zombie forms? Congrats you've written another fucking au.

But I can already hear you saying, "It doesn't matter, we've never seen one-eyed Butters, or diabetic Kyle, or mutilated former-zombie town members outside of that ONE EPISODE!" And I agree. Most fans wouldn't consider it an AU to ignore these episodes. But when you start bullying other fans because they ignore similar details from other individual episodes: (i.e: this character can't be trans because they were shown having a dick that one time), it sets a ridiculous double standard.

South Park canon is full of contradictions, and 26 seasons of lore and confirmed (sometimes contradictory) canon leave too much for creators to portray in work. So let's stop attacking people because their portrayals of characters run against your cherry-picked parts of canon, because we ALL cherry-pick which parts of canon we include in our fanworks.

PS: and DON'T even get me STARTED on how much the character's personalities have evolved over those 26 seasons. So many people are upset about characters being OOC, when they are perfectly IN-character for earlier/later eras of the show.
