i know I said I'll stop talking about Hesse but Hesse's books are really so much my taste it's unbelievable, and ever since reading him I've been subconsciously comparing every piece of media to how Hesse-esque it is 🫠
I don't know how to convey that, but the way Hesse wrote is what I've been trying to convey in my art for years, a certain degree of melancholy and tenderness and unconditional affection

just wanted to say welcome to spain and i'm glad that you seem to be enjoying the chattiness! a lot less people here are fluent in english, compared to other european countries, but we soldier on enthusiastically. elderly people will sometimes raise their voice a lot to get their point across but they mean well. i love your art and i hope you enjoy your time here!
Thank you! 😊 I'll be attending Spanish lessons, I hope I'll learn it eventually 😭 but so far I've been managing! And I am enjoying it so far, thank you!

regarding your post about spanish people's communication style - i work in a museum gift shop in a major polish city and idk all people from mediterranean area are incredibly loud and communicative comparing to most tourists from baltic area. recently there was a spanish woman who i believe told us her entire story in spanish not caring me and my colleague couldn't understand a word (personally i can count to ten and ask donde es la izquierda and this is it). she was incredible and will forever stay in my memory
haha I wish her all the best, truly
But see, I can kinda expect it when it's tourists being like that, they're chilling and you're in a place they specifically came to see; but like... In a way I almost expected hostility towards me because I don't speak spanish and live in a city with an extreme tourism problem that makes living difficult for the residents. But I still experience this pleasant chattiness, and if the other person can't speak English and they see that I can't speak Spanish, they just pull out google translate on their phone and continue jkgk

I'm starting to feel a cultural shock for real coming from Germany to Spain... Why do people, like....... Communicate so much in here...... I mean like, in a professional setting like hr when you discuss a job, or when you get a new sim card, or when you have a scheduled visit to the doctor's or when you call for a plumber.... And they kinda like... Communicate??? I'm confused
#In Germany you just schedule an appointment and then don't hear anything until the appointment time#Or with a SIM card you just buy one and won't be offered any assistance unless you specifically ask for it#I'm not used to people being communicative it's wild

ok I now have seen Spare Me No Mercy (which I found endlessly entertaining), I Feel You Linger In The Air (which was extremely gentle... like Hesse-level of gentleness..... and I can't believe I got a well written GL in my BL show!!) and Triage (I didn't care for the main couple but I found the writing really good, the ending was a bit messy but it was a really interesting take on the time loop storyline), I liked them all!!
I feel my interest is wavering again though and I still don't feel like drawing just yet..... I might disappear into some mountain....
hnm.... I kinda want to watch some more bl dramas........
Does anyone know any..
#the kind of story I truly want is Hesse adapted into a BL 😭#the medical dramas give me that kind of... how to describe it... gentle power imbalance/respectful manner of address#and also plotline that has romance as a background element....#I like that...#also Triage gave me that whole 'I made him and he made me' thing that N&G has...

When I was living in Germany it took me 2 years to befriend someone enough to hang out over the weekend every couple months, and 5 years to befriend enough people that I could do something almost every weekend, and now having to do this all over again.. /o\

so if I'm learning about romance correctly from this show...
First base is a dinner date Second based is moving in together Third base is keeping your partner from learning anything upsetting by any means necessary (such as murder, coercion, lying) Fourth base is a first kiss Fifth base is holding hands for the first time
over the past few days I watched this bl drama Spare Me Your Mercy, which was this very interesting mix of toxic yaoi, medical malpractice, whodunit mystery, ethics/law commentary
so there are shows like that too huh....

#the bl romance was so funny though#because both main characters had an ulterior motive in getting together until they eventually gaslit themselves into liking each other#I loved their progress what with the moving in together before they even had any kind of physical contact#incredible#there was this side character with the most toxic sense of devotion and I loved him very much#anyway that filled my yearly quota for watching tv shows

Hello !! First I wanted to say I find your art work to be a complete inspiration. Your passion for the literature you read and the care with which you bring it to life is mesmerizing to witness and also a great motivation for myself to do the same with my own interests and drawings. Thank you for sharing it ! Secondly, while every aspect of your art is immensely pleasing to the eye, I’m particularly in love with your use of color. I’m sorry is this is something you’ve been asked before, but I suppose I wanted to ask if you had any tips, or methods or inspirations regarding your color choices/rendering in paintings? I say so as someone who struggles a bit with making my art looks cohesive or eye catching . Thank you for your time !
That's such a kind thing to say, thank you!! 🥰
Also woah, I'm surprised a bit because I always think that coloring is my weakest point - I usually go for a very similar greenish/earthy limited color palette and when I try to deviate from it I don't do it particularly successfully
What I usually do is grab a very soft brush, pick a dominant color for the background, and then something contrasting for the skin (either in hue or value -- "contrast provides interest" after all), and then go from there. I keep using the soft brush to add some new colors in - I usually pick colors that are too saturated and blend with the backgrounds, and keep everything messy until I get a palette I like.

When it comes to shading, I care little for the light source and go for these gradients... On the skin, I tend to do it like, yellowish (and often brighter) gradient from the chest/lower neck up, a similar one from the arms towards hands, reddish cheek and fingers (but brighter value below the knuckles to give them definition).
On the clothes, I tend to do a global saturation gradient - the closer to the neck the more saturated. And I'll mix in some of the background colors onto the clothes, and the colors of different parts of the clothes in between each other, too.

Something I usually keep in mind is to have difference in values (eg if the head is dark, then the clothes around the neck, and the background will be brighter, and then I can allow the body gradually get brighter as it goes down, and surround it with a darker background), but other than that I keep colors flexible. Natural lighting, or things having consistent colors? I don't need any of that, I'm doing art, not photography after all :D
About inspiration for my style of painting, I talked it about elsewhere but the Eastern European Secession/Young Poland movement is a God whom I worship

somehow the negative book reviews are better at convincing me to read something than the positive reviews

#I was leaving Thomas Mann for later but...#I've been chasing a certain type of lack of plot/slowness ever since Mary Shelley's The Last Man#And it seems that The Magic Mountain can provide that ..

Had the game for ages but started playing it causw of you (of course). Henry already died 1 in a prison fire and again in the horseriding part. I cannot figure out horseriding, so Henry will die many many times more :') thank you for your wonderful art, i wish i could just make money picking nettles and kissing Blanka :)
hahah I'm glad you found that prison fire ending, as sad as it is, it's an unique cutscene that's easy to miss :D
Hope you'll keep enjoying it as you go!! And that you'll manage the horse escape, it really is difficult 😭
