I never really thought about it like that but now i forever will

I personally feel this is one of the best scenes in all of Sonic 3. It’s so emotionally charged, and I personally resonate with it so much for multiple reasons. So buckle in, I have some big thoughts and feelings on this one (I have drastically limited them here).

1: It’s the first time we see the dynamic of Stone and Robotnik being altered, due to the shift from the status quo. This is the progression of our understanding of Robotnik’s emotional availability. He could always care, he just didn’t express any of that to Stone, even when his sycophant tried so hard and did so much for him. It’s the same feeling I get when my friend gets a boyfriend and suddenly they’re so close (like they just got to shortcut into my friend’s heart) and I don’t matter as much, even though I’ve always been there and I always will. It’s emotionally gutting to see someone replace your spot in the life of someone you love, especially if they get everything you ever wanted in your relationship with said person. They get this sudden comfortability with this person, and that will never be yours.

2: The latte art, and the drinks being thrown away. But everyone is already obsessed with that tiny bit anyways.

3: The song?!!!!! The Beach Boys were the first band I ever loved. For years the only music I had saved onto my phone was their albums. It was one of the first things I developed an intense appreciation and enjoyance (or obsession) for, and Sonic has become something I have fairly recently found a love for as well. I almost screamed when this song turned on in the movie. I turned to my girlfriend and loudly whispered “oh my gosh it’s The Beach Boys? In Sonic?” I almost screamed tbh. This song works on many levels, it’s basically a double entendre. I don’t need to spell the rest of it out for you, if you’re reading all of this you already know.
