Remington RX5 head shaver on broken glass.

When setting up this shot, the social media team asked for it to be shot straight on camera view onto broken glass. Well the glass was super hard to break, couldn't smash it. In the end we used a nail and a hammer. I set-up the lighting and the camera in the studio, the shot wasn't working to start with. When seen straight on you couldn't see the reflection, it didn't look like it was on glass.

I decided this shot can work but we need to change the camera angle, it took a while to change the set-up completely but we got the shot and I am well happy with it. A bit more edgy look for the Remington Brand, but it works.

Drinks brand shoot

I have worked on a new shoot recently of a new vodka brand called Monk Isidore. High quality vodka, if you can get a bottle try it out.

I did a studio shoot where I had free rein to impress the client and I thought I wanted to keep the look simple, but be able to show off with some skills that not every studio photographer can create.

I knew that I wanted to do a balancing theme and that the balance would be impossible to get naturally, I have a BTS image of my studio set-up which shows the lighting, equipment etc. But if I can get over 200 likes then I will show a behind the scenes images showing the secret to how I set this shot up, but it will be on my Facebook photography page or on my Instagram story so if we hit the mark then look out for the update. A hint is that there is some Photoshop editing this this image.

To do this image I photographed the bottle on it’s own with no hand, I did a focus stacked image for maximum sharpness. Then I took a photo of the hand around the bottle for a separate shot, made it all work in photoshop. Job done.

I have been shooting the Remington Advanced Coconut Therapy range of haircare products. Quite good products to work with, the strong colours help these types of electronic product ranges stand out. There's some chrome elements which need careful lighting treatment in the studio.

Hair dryers seem to be more difficult to photograph then the other haircare products like the wands or straighteners. The studio set-up images can be seen on my Facebook photography page.

New Product Photography

I did a shoot before lockdown of the new Remington Hydrolux hair straightener. It has a unique feature which is steam comes out as your using it on your hair. The feature has a open outlet where the steam comes out and this aspect is something that needed to be shown well in the photography. When the straighteners are closed you can't see the shape of the outlet well, so I needed to do a composite image, I photographed the straighteners open, then photographed them closed, each time doing an image stack to get high quality image. I could then use the open image where the light was able to shine on the bottom plate showing the shape of the outlet, combine that image with the closed straightener image for the final result.

It took a fair amount of work but I managed to get what the product team wanted and now this image can be seen on the packaging artwork and used in other marketing areas, advertising, social media etc.

I worked on a food shoot in Manchester with a food stylist Tom Citarella which was a Christmas food shoot, not too over the top on the Christmas props which is something that I think works well. The food is mainly a Wellington, not a traditional one but Chef Tom was telling me how it's not really a Wellington but it has to be called something. All the normal trimmings around it which helps frame the shot nicely. Can be tricky to get the over head shots but the big camera stand comes in very useful for shots like this. Also because of time restrictions I used the same lighting set-up for both the over head view and the lower angle too. I have included BTS images to show how the shot came together, the set-up used etc, take a look at my Facebook page to see the BTS images. The images are used for brand marketing and social media uses for Russell hobbs new product. I have worked with Tom Citarella on many shoots and would recommend using his services to other photographers or events, he even does food demo's. am starting something new. Motion design. I chose to start this other aspect of creative industries because I thought it could compliment my photography/video business services. This video is an early example of what I can produce currently, I will be getting more proficient as time goes on. I realise these things take a lot of time to become an expert. Product Photography shoot at home during lockdown. Examples of images created with behind the scenes on this still life shoot for Hunt & Hustle brand barber scissors. I would normally shoot in a photography studio, this is work that I managed to do during the Covid 19 virus situation has effected all our lives. I am letting people see the inner workings on a shoot with a highly reflective chrome product which can be very difficult to shoot. But not so bad if you know what your doing. Also using a mirror as an effective background to this table top style photoshoot.
