ANOTHER 50 words for that most versatile @drarrymicrofic prompt wound (P.S. in my head this takes place in the same universe as my fic Blade of Sun, but that's just for my own amusement. It stands wholly on its own!)

Their swords clash; a cold and ancient song.

Harry seizes his chance, pushing past Malfoy's guard.

There's a lick of sweat on Malfoy's neck, escaping into his tunic.

Harry falters.

Then he's in the dirt.

Malfoy laughs, triumphant.

Harry's bleeding.

But what's a little wound when it conjures that sound?

Whereeee do I even begin with this fic oh my gosh. The worldbuilding is PEAK. There are so many fun things that rune does with the structure that convey the strange, otherworldly, in-between space of the arcane. And the jayvik? AHHHHH. THE YEARNING! THE GRIEF!!!! It's both cosmic horror and sweeping romance at its finest. It's so, so good. I left a comment that was literally *checks notes* 2,000 words??? LMAO. Thank you rune for reading my yapping! I just had to bind your fic; it's been living rent-free in my mind for months now.

Some fun design things! There are a few sections in the second chapter that are written in the style of a screenplay, so I mirrored that in the typeset :3 For font, I went with Courier New, which is (I believe!) the standard for screenplays, and also changed up the justification for the paragraphs to be left-justified.

I really love the resulting effect--the chapter this happens in is about (spoilers aha) Jayce getting tossed into the metaphorical basement of the arcane, and because he's not technically supposed to be there, he's kind of only...partially rendered. But he's also literally aware that he's a construct, which is BONKERS and so delicious, narratively speaking. All that to say, I really wanted to convey that feeling of unreality, and I feel like the stark contrast between the two fonts really helps with that!

The title page was also super fun to design! After Viktor gets spat back out of the arcane, his face kinda splits into a thousand different after-images. I thought it would be really neat to convey that somehow, along with the general idea of motion as named in the title:

I liked the effect so much I did it for the cover text as well! This was my first time using printable canvas and gosh is it a game changer. For the cover artwork, I used Vasily Kandinsky's Several Circles and flipped it around so that that the title would fall in the black part of the big circle:

My bindery logo falling right in the middle of the orange circle was a happy accident heh, but it's one I'm quite pleased with :3 This was one of those designs that sort of fell into place the moment I found the artwork--it just felt right.

This was also my first time making paper endbands! I used the same paper for both the endbands and the endpapers and love how it brings it all together.

A million thanks again to rune for letting me bind their work, and to marie for letting me include her artwork! I had so much fun with this bind, and this is legit one of my favorite fics not just in arcane fandom, but also just in general. I'm so so happy to have it on my shelf! Here it is once more, for the road <3

I read this as it was being posted and it is such a well-crafted story!

Harry Potter defeated Voldemort at the Battle of Hogwarts on May 2nd, 1998. But what if he didn't? Seven years after the Battle, and Harry is locked in a war he can't seem to win. The last thing he needs is one Draco Malfoy arriving into his HQ to disrupt everything—let alone two Draco Malfoys.

This book is heavy! I made the font 1pt smaller than what I usually go with and it still ended up at nearly 700 pages.

I found that cover image a while ago and knew I wanted to use it for a Harry Potter fic. That silhouette of the willow against the dark blue background is just so beautiful! (I think the Whomping Willow doesn't appear at all in the fic, but the illustration still felt fitting because of the "Night" in the title, and also because of the generally dark vibes.)

I did mess up the cover a little: I glued the board with the cutout on upside down 🙃 The image was supposed to sit in the upper half of the cover so I had to improvise and add the title above it to balance things out.

Especially for multi-chapter fics with important authors' notes I like to include a Bonus Material section :) It feels a bit like being able to click through the behind the scenes extras on a DVD after watching a movie.

Bound: Far From The Tree by aideomai

The arrival of Harry Potter’s children—snapped back in time, the children themselves guessed, twenty or so years—was the most interesting thing to happen at Hogwarts for years.

Wheres my Soup-pocalypse bind came together in a mere few days, this one I agonized over for months.

You win some, you lose some.

I made this bind for @maleekamolscreates as part of our twins exchange, which we set in motion the day we found out we share a birthday.

I didn't plan to make another sci-fi themed Drarry bind, the chiyogami endpapers kind of dictated the direction. And I couldn't not use these endpapers. I mean... come on.

I opted for a nearly entirely monochrome exterior, save for the title which is layered offset HTV. If you look closely, you can see a wavy texture on the bookcloth mimicking the pattern of the endpapers, which is just matte black HTV.

I don't love the way the HTV turned out, and if I had to do it again I would have left the cover entirely blank. Maybe include a black-only title on the spine. But conceptually I dig it, and hopefully Mally does, too.

The edges are painted with black acrylic ink and the endbands are hand-sewn with black silk thread using DAS's Two Colour Front Bead Headband tutorial.

I finally managed to find short-grain cream paper in Canada (ty, Canada Papers!), which really elevated the typeset in my opinion.

Typeset art is by mims bindery (ty, mims!).

There are two pieces for this bind: the twins and a second piece (so avert your eyes if you don't want any spoilers!)

I opted to use red thread for the text block because, uh, it looks cool?

I was a big baby during this whole bind, so I must thank my emotional support crew who helped me troubleshoot and talked me off the ledge more than once: @citrusses @epitomereally @sits-bound @jtimu

I also DM'd a bunch of other pals with cupped hands begging them to feed me morsels of praise throughout the process, so ty @faiell @its-the-allure @smehur @edieblakee @the-forbidden-forest. ILY ALL VERY VERY MUCH.

Stop All the Clocks (This Is the Last Time I'm Leaving Without You) by firethesound @firethesound

This fic... THIS FIC. If you know, you know. It’s one of my all-time favorite fics, and I had to pick it for the #TreatYoShelf2025 exchange. The story is about grief, and it DESTROYED me (and I dragged some of my friends down with me, cause why the fuck not, right?).

As I read it, the whole concept basically came to me all at once, because there’s something so surreal about living in a world after the love of your life has died. Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory fits this story so fucking perfectly, I can’t even explain it, and in a way, I feel like I don’t have to.

I sobbed while reading, talking about, typesetting, and binding this fic — and I even teared up while taking pictures of it. Talking about self-care, huh? Cry it out and give yourself time. That’s what I call self-care. Do things you love, for yourself, and let yourself feel all the feelings. Be kind to yourself. Allow yourself to cry when you need to. Time will heal. It doesn’t last forever. Nothing does. No one does. It does get better.

Anyway. First time using printable Canva and just — Look. At. This!!! Don’t even get me started on the perfect charms I managed to find for this project, or the drawings I did for the typeset. And again — if you know, you know. (The mugs!!! The jumpers!!! The ring... Fuck, I’m actually crying again as I type this lol.)
