Stuck in the endless, boring purgatory of the bureaucratic red tape involving his return to the Galar League, Aster has decided to go on a roadtrip!

Test your map knowledge of the three areas in Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet AND its two DLC maps in this fun little low-stakes contest held by yours truly!! Do you know where Aster went on his trip? (((o(*ﾟ∀ﾟ*)o)))

10 rounds in total! Each round will start with a selfie with Aster in a location from his road trip. 4 rounds are in Paldea, 3 in Kitakami, and 3 in BBA

Every 30 minutes after the round starts (save for a round ending before this time is up), I'll give a hint on where Aster is!

Here in Galar most buildings don’t have air conditioning because they’re old and were built for withstanding the cold, so it’s pretty miserable. I do own heat-appropriate clothes but they’re not as nice looking. I’ll live, I suppose.

now I have to wear boring clothes or my tacky gym uniform which I hate. and no one will get to bask in my amazing fashion sense. sad!

Types are important for battle dynamics and understanding certain biological differences. But it is also important to recognise that there are quite a few Pokémon that do not fit in well with the type system.

Researchers still debate the existence of other types like sound or light types, and there is also a debate as to whether Pokémon can have tertiary (third) types.

So I wouldn’t say types are stupid per se, but the system is not without its flaws!

a lot of things get on my nerves. im constantly annoyed. and i also have a deep love of humanity and the world but everything is really annoying

as someone whose partner Pokémon is a hatterene— they hate most people. and most sentient organisms in general. So to anyone who thinks it’s a red flag if they don’t like someone… chances are they won’t like you either lol.

They’re also not all the same— some are way more tolerant than others.

Would it kill people to stop acting like emotion-sensitive pokemon not liking someone is a red flag on that person's part? Some people are depressed or otherwise mentally ill. They literally cannot help it. Some people are just very emotional. What do you want them to do about it??

Glad to know I didn’t totally misunderstand my classes!

And yeah, I think I remember reading something about how we used to think archen was the “first bird” and the key to understanding avian flight, but that got debunked eventually.

I wonder what aspects of modern science will get debunked and laughed at in the future. Kind of interesting to think about!

So are archen birds or reptiles? I want one so badly and I'm not sure what kind of vet I should seek out if I was able to get my hands on one.

Things get tricky when you start trying to figure out classifications like this. Bird pokemon both are and are not considered reptiles at the same time, depending on what type of clarification you use; phylogenetically speaking, they're reptiles, but if you use the older Laventon Classification System, birds are considered distinct from reptiles due to having different physical traits such as feathers.

Putting pokemon into groups is harder than you'd think, because we have so much diversity in our world; whenever you come up with a hard rule, you'll find something that breaks it.

So, basically: it's complicated. Archen are reptiles, but they have many of the characteristics of birds, so much so that they often fall into my field of ornithology. However, if you go to your average pokemon veterinarian who specializes in either birds or reptiles, they'll probably be a bit out of their element due to archen being a pokemon that's extinct in the wild. You'll have to find a vet who specializes in fossil pokemon and feels confident in caring for an archen. You'll probably have to call around until you find someone.

That said, send pictures if you do get one! They've always fascinated me, since they're a common ancestor of many bird pokemon today.

I’ve been a ‘public figure’ in my region for years at this point and I still do a double take every time I see someone talk about me. Hence why I’ve been vague about my identity on rotomblr. I imagine it’s way worse when it’s your girlfriend or something who’s in the public eye, ‘cause even if you’re not a jealous person it’ll feel awkward every time

Fucking... weird being reminded that your girlfriend is a public figure due to past events and connections by seeing something calling her hot and like... because she's a public figure... you know. It's not anything different ultimately than someone saying an actor is hot.

Still weird seeing that in general regardless.

I remember learning about this last year in one of my bio classes!

We learned about the Laventon system too but generally used the phylogenetic system since it’s considered more modern and accurate nowadays, so my professors taught me that (like you said) bird Pokémon are technically reptiles cladistically-speaking— and the closest thing to a bird that isn’t a bird is a crocodilian, like Sandile, etc.

IIRC modern bird Pokémon and archen/archeops are both theropods (hollow bones, three main claws on each foot), meaning the archeops line shares ancestry with all modern avians, but isn’t necessarily a direct ancestor of all of them.

I hope I got that right, I’m still just a student, but I get excited when I get to talk about something bio-related that I know about!

Ah, makes sense! I’m not very familiar with the birds of Paldea given that I’ve never been there (and I’m far from a flying specialist) but knowing their temperaments now I realise why squawkabilly was the best choice. I know here in Galar we tried using braviary for transport but decided to go with corviknight due to braviary’s comparatively more aggressive nature.

why does Paldea use squawkabilly for flying taxis?? Don’t those things weigh like 2kg?? I understand they can’t use corviknight but surely there’s some better options… or are squawkabilly actually like super strong?

Sqwakabilly are used cause of trainability corviknight are big yes but there also reliable you try to get a kilowattel to do anything for you and tell me how it goes

I suppose that makes sense, it just seems like carrying that much weight would be too much for just four of them.
