Final project statement.
Soccer player Angela Fletes
This photography project also acts as a small gift for my sister for her struggle with the sport of soccer. I know the hardships of playing a sport for so long during your childhood (because I was put in the exact same shoes), so I want my sister Angela to look at these pictures to remind herself to keep pushing forward and to not give up, as well as seeing herself as a player no matter what she says about herself in a negative way. The images provided are from three separate soccer events. A game, an official practice, and a practice done during her free time, each being an important thing for her growth. every image has an aspect of showing action in the sport, cooperation with teammates or practice for self-improvement. All taken in color, landscaped mode. I hoped to capture not only the strength of Angela playing the sport but also the enjoyment and determination needed to be a good soccer player.

Weegee (born in 1899) was a self-taught, Austrian-born American photographer and photojournalist renowned for his stark, black-and-white street photography in New York City during the 1930s and 40s. His name, "Weegee," derived from the Ouija board, hinted at his uncanny ability to arrive at crime scenes where he would be known to take photos of. Weegee captured the terrible and ugly realities of urban life, focusing on crime, injury, and death. Some of his most famous works include his crime scene photos, his images of Coney Island crowds, and his later, more experimental "Distortions" series featuring celebrities. crime scenes personally seemed interesting to me, so it was a Suprise to find a photographer who focuses on them. although not all of his images seem to capture only crime scenes. other photos of his work show normal everyday city moments back in the day with groups of people going on about their day. the crime scene picture definitely gives that urban and unsettling feeling to then when they show bodies without fully showing them, letting the viewer know that there was once someone alive in that very spot.

Past Exhibitions (Selection):
Scene of the Crime: Photo by Weegee at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles (2005-2006).
WEEGEE Distortions at Matthew Marks Gallery in New York (2000).
Numerous exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York between 1944 and 1978.
Exhibitions at the International Center of Photography (ICP), including a retrospective in 1998.
Flash! The Sensational Photography of Weegee the Famous at the Allentown Art Museum (2020).
The Human Touch, 1935-1945 at Anton Kern Gallery in New York (2020).

Ralph Gibson is an acclaimed American photographer who is well known for his distinct black-and-white imagery characterized by high contrast, strong geometric forms, and often surreal undertones. Gibson's early exposure to the film industry through his father's work as an assistant director for Alfred Hitchcock likely influenced his visual sensibilities. He honed his photographic skills during his time in the U.S. Navy and later at the San Francisco Art Institute. He furthered his development by working as an assistant to the legendary documentary photographer Dorothea Lange and subsequently with Robert Frank on several films. Throughout his prolific career, Ralph Gibson has published over 40 books, and his photographs have been exhibited in over 25. To me his work is just an interesting collection of bizarre pictures that I believe can be seen as true art but can also be viewed as nonsense or something that doesn’t portray any value whatsoever. Nevertheless, it still intrigues me to see these pictures especially when they are only in black and white and not in color.
current exhibits:
Ralph Gibson: Nature: ongoing at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, New York, and is scheduled to run until April 27, 2025.
His work is also part of the group exhibition Open Your Eyes at Les Abattoirs in Toulouse, France.
Past Exhibitions:
Sacred Land at the Hebrew Union College in New York (March 19 – July 8, 2024).
Ralph Gibson: Secrets Of Life at Deichtorhallen Hamburg (April 21, 2023 – August 20, 2023).
Ralph Gibson: A Retrospective at Art Windsor-Essex.

James Nachtwey is an American photojournalist, known for his documentation of wars, conflicts, and critical social issues across the globe for over four decades. His impactful images aim to raise public awareness and connect viewers to the human impact of injustice and violence. James Nachtwey is a highly respected American photojournalist, renowned for his powerful and unflinching documentation of wars, conflicts, and critical social issues across the globe for over four decades. His impactful images aim to raise public awareness and connect viewers to the human impact of injustice and violence. Nachtwey began his career as a newspaper photographer and later became a freelance photographer, working with prestigious publications like Time magazine since 1984. His documentation of wars and struggles simply just interests me because of the history it provides. It's always fascinating to see how the old times of constant fear were seen by those who lived during the time and because of the photography taken, younger generations can learn more about the past of war.
his past exhibits include:
Witness to History: James Nachtwey (2015) at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire, USA.
James Nachtwey: Memoria (2018) at the MEP, Maison Europeenne de la Photographie in Paris, France.
MEMORIA (2017-2018) at the Palazzo Reale in Milan, Italy.
more recent exhibits include:
James Nachtwey: Memoria Exhibition (September 5 - November 26, 2023) at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

Peter Lindbergh (1944-2019) was a highly influential German fashion photographer renowned for his cinematic and naturalistic black-and-white portraits, particularly of models. He is credited with bringing in the "supermodel" era with his iconic 1990 British Vogue cover featuring Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, and Tatjana Patitz. Throughout his career, Lindbergh worked with the most prestigious fashion magazines and brands, creating timeless and impactful images. He also directed several films and documentaries. His approach and his redefining of beauty standards left a lasting effect on the world of photography. To me this is a great representation of professionalism in the world of photography. Every image is of a model with a goal to look good with whatever fashion is applied to them. Knowing what to capture in order to gain attraction towards the image such as attractive people, enjoyment and seriousness, as well as both full body shots and close up shots on faces to better show a model's attractive facial features because that is what grabs the attention of most people in the world when looking for fashion photos.
Yes, Peter Lindbergh has several exhibitions, both past and current, showcasing his significant contributions to fashion photography.
Current Exhibitions:
Dior / Lindbergh Exhibition is on display at La Galerie Dior in Paris, France, from October 17, 2024, to May 4, 2025.

Jacques Henri Lartigue (1894-1986) was a French photographer and painter celebrated for his spontaneous and joyful snapshots of his affluent family and friends, capturing the vibrant atmosphere of the Belle Époque and interwar years. Starting photography as a child, he documented their playful lives, including homemade races, kite flying, and fashionable outings. While he considered himself a painter, Lartigue's photographic work, initially a personal hobby meticulously recorded in albums, gained significant recognition later in his life. His informal, candid style, often focusing on movement and the pleasures of leisure, stood apart from the more formal photography of the time. I really enjoy how his photos don’t appear to be professional and capture the moments of fun with movement, smiles, and pure enjoyment being captured. It really expresses how seriousness isn’t something that is necessary for photography and that capturing happiness can be essential for the world as well. One of his photos which I enjoy the most is one depicting an old-fashioned car simply going at fast speed and because of the cameras of the time a lot of it is warped to the left giving it a great example for a picture of movement.
Recent and Current Exhibitions:
Joel Meyerowitz: A Sense of Wonder, 1962 - 2022 at the Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia, Italy, from March 25, 2025, to August 24, 2025, features the work of Joel Meyerowitz.
Joel Meyerowitz: Europe 1966-1967 at Photo ESPANA from May 15, 2025, to July 13, 2025, will showcase Joel Meyerowitz's photographs.
Joel Meyerowitz: Temporal Aspects at the NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale, USA, until March 16, 2025, includes Joel Meyerowitz's photography.
A display of Joel Meyerowitz's work is ongoing at Tate Modern in London until March 16, 2025.

Joel Meyerowitz, born in the Bronx, New York, in 1938, is a highly acclaimed American photographer well known for his pioneering work in color photography and his significant contributions to street photography. He studied art and medical illustration at Ohio State University. Inspired by seeing Robert Frank at work, he transitioned to photography in 1962, initially capturing the streets of New York in black and white. They also have a large catalog of published works as early as 1962 and still produce more to this day. A significant chapter in his career involved being the sole photographer granted unrestricted access to Ground Zero after the September 11, 2001, attacks. His extensive archive of images closes up in the aftermath of the attack served as important history imagery. His street photography interests me because it's nothing meant to be frivolous or anything that is planned. The moments being captured are what is most important, and it's captured very well. His New York collection is the one I enjoy the most since I’ve been there only once, and his photos of the city really capture the city wonderfully. His photos that contain buildings with unique shapes and colors are really great at capturing a city's architect. And his photos with actions or movement happening catch an enjoyment in people's faces that can inspire others to want some of that fun as well.
past exhibits include:
Joel Meyerowitz: 1962 - 1980 was at Tate Modern until March 16, 2025.
Conversations - Joel Meyerowitz was at Howard Greenberg Gallery until June 7, 2024.
more recent exhibits include:
Joel Meyerowitz: Temporal Aspects is ongoing at the NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale, USA, and is scheduled to run until March 16, 2025.
A display of Joel Meyerowitz's work is also ongoing at Tate Modern in London, which started on November 20, 2023, and will continue until March 16, 2025.

Eliot Porter was an American photographer born in the year of 1901 and was renowned for his pioneering use of color photography to capture the beauty and intimacy of the natural world. Initially trained as a scientist (with degrees in chemical engineering and medicine from Harvard), Porter shifted his focus to photography after encouragement from his brother, the painter Fairfield Porter, and introductions to influential figures like Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams. in 1940 he specialized in color and was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship for his exhibit of birds of color in 1943. His work mixes a well blend of clouded colors that seem obvious were taken from large cameras which gives the photos of nature a more realistic look. the imagery can inspire me to work on landscapes and nature shots for the stories I'm making. while most of his artwork contain imagery of both forests, trees, and flowing bodies of water. some of them contained imagery of birds in their nest to give some life to them. color was the most important to him and it's shown a lot in his work, showing that nature isn't just green and brown but all sorts of colors you would think to only see in movies or shows.
past exhibits include:
An American Place (1938) in New York.
Birds of Color (1943): Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Limelight Gallery (1955): New York City.
Intimate Landscapes (1979): The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
Eliot Porter: In the Realm of Nature (June 13 - September 17, 2006): Getty Center.

report 1

The photography book I have chosen for this report is titled “We skate Hardcore” by Vincent Cianni. At first glance the book contains photos that define skateparks and those who know how to use skateboards, capturing moments of people doing tricks on skateboards but not only that. The people themselves share their stories and their relationships. The pages themselves have a bit of variety within them with some pages having handwritten text on more yellowish paper and gives a sense of run down in a way. The book itself is more of a landscape format rather than a small portrait size. Something I very much enjoy from the photos in this book is the not so professional look that some of these gives, a mix of people either looking at the camera posing or knowing they are getting photographs, others with pictures that look like skaters just relaxing or skating in their own environment. One thing I noticed first is actually how old the pictures are and it's because of the second image that is in the book. The image is of New York City and what gave it away was that you can see the twin towers before 9/11, showing that these images have been taken before 2001. The book is mostly of black and white images because of the time but there are some colored images however they are very yellow and pixelated which shows just how old the images are.

theme project
The main theme I'm going to be photographing is my sister practicing and playing Soccer. I plan to take pictures of her in the action of the sport in practices and in different games. The photos may include different times in the day with flights usually being practices and day time being game days. Pictures may include images of her playing or maybe even sitting to the side waiting to be brought into the game. As well afterwards where she might be tired and happy or tired and frustrated.
I want to photograph this because it's something My family actually really wants. good photos of her doing the sport she loves. I thought maybe I can Help with that. Soccer is something she has been doing for a long time and I usually never have gone to her practices or games. Now I will go so I can capture some moments for the family since I know they don’t do it themselves.
I will be capturing these images at the moment for the majority of them. Nothing will really be intentional since I can’t just scream at her during a game to pose for the camera. But maybe she will ask me to take a picture, who knows.
I want my audience to just appreciate the images of a family member playing soccer. There's really no deeper meaning behind it.
