The human body and mind can do incredible things when it has to. We've all heard fantastic stories of mothers lifting cars to safe their children and people surviving unbelievable ordeals. When it has to. This has all been the thing that interested me the most. When it has to. What is this when? What does it mean and where does it come from? For years I've been obsessed with this question, writing plays and stories about my collections and observations but not really being able to understand. I'm the past few weeks I've been thinking. Saying and writing a lot "This is what life can feel like. Never forget this." Maybe this is the when. It's having experienced so much joy and happiness that you know it's worth all the fighting. Maybe this is the key to unlocking the when. Utter refusal to believe you don't deserve to be happy because you finally understand what life is about. Don't get me wrong, I still have no idea what life is about - but it's beginning to dawn on me. However, like pain, joy can be easily forgotten. Today I woke up sad. I always thought my biggest fear was that everybody is just out for themselves. That we'd all just slaughter each other if it came down to it. I guess I was lying to myself. I fear vulnerability the most. Opening up and standing there exposed in front of an armed nation of people, praying that they are not going to turn their weapons against me. All of them slightly dangerous - hiding secretly a dagger in my own sleeve just in case. I guess if we all listened to Buddha and Jesus and all the other wise blokes we pretend listen to and actually were nice to each other and trusted each other, no one would need weapons. There would be no shortage of love or food - or homes. While posting "keep out" signs on empty buildings and put bleach over the food we chuck mercilessly in bins behind our local sainsburys. Today I woke up sad. I guess someone needs to start spreading smiles, love and compassion. Going back to London and resuming my old London work style I realise how much the way I view and now treat my body has changed. I now see it as an ally not an enemy. I am proud of the way it pushed me successfully through hikes I could have easily hurt myself, balanced in yoga positions I never knew existed and healed second degree burns I achieved by really not looking after myself. Now back in London, I am proud of you and I want to make you proud by going on with a lifestyle that supports my work style to look after you as well as you've done for me so far. Give your body some love, peeps. Especially your feet, they've been carrying through your entire life, your spine for supporting your entire world and your gut for dealing with everything you ever take on board. Give it some good nutrition. I am grateful especially for the challenges I was presented with and equally, the people that then joined me by my side spitting in their hands for better grip, ready to tackle whatever tsunami appeared on the horizon. Sometimes it'd break far out and all we felt was salt spray tickling our skin and noses. And sometimes we'd have to hold on tight and push through, a tornado of water and salt seemingly isolating us while we battled our way through to the calmer side. Hands reached out uncountable times met with a relieved breath and a firm clasp. Thank you world for proving me wrong. Thank you world for letting me be open to change.
