Rambling.

The questions about the dwarves make me wonder if the Descent's lore and the Sha-Brytol were added without taking the Black Codex's direction into account, or if Rhodes' revelations are extreme simplifications of what was in the document. Possibly stuff he remembered? Especially since he doesn't work there anymore, would he even still have access to it?

Entire cities were constructed inside of Titan bodies, complete with their own ecosystems and everything. Did that predate the elves severing the dwarves' connection to the Titans? It must've... I know the architecture of the buildings in the Wellspring got revisited in one of the concept arts for Veilguard. What's the connection? Blaaaah.

me breaking into the bioware offices: "hey. why do the evanuris have such a specific idea of gender and even family units, when they literally made themselves out of Intangible Abstract Concepts? what does motherhood or fatherhood even mean for mythal and elgar'nan? were they having biological kids? were they just copying the dwarves? did the hivemind dwarves have gender and family structures like that? how did that happen? humans didn't exist on thedas then, so it couldn't have been from copying humans?"

Thinking about when I worked at a shitty restaurant + one night it was just me + 3 other women on closing shift, so some guy came in the back and waved a knife around, presumably for money but I’m not actually certain, bc he was met with the bartender holding a much bigger knife, a tiny teenager wielding a cast iron pan, an elderly woman holding up a crockpot of clearly boiling water, and me, turning on the meat slicer with eye contact for maximum effect. He left, but the moral of the story is not girl power or whatever, it’s just. Why the fuck would you threaten a room full of underpaid and sleep-deprived blue-collar workers surrounded by lethal weapons.

Thedas Creation 🥰 Black Codex by Matt Rhodes

I think this was always clear to those who payed real attention to lore and explored lore and all the hints more deeply, not just on surface level of game story. still so fascinating to see it all spelled out like this, this artwork is STUNNING!!!!! man what I would give for a game set in creation days of Thedas and Titan War and early Arlathan 😭 But only if it was done by all the original devs and writers ofc. so yeah... we can dream.

so much of heinrix's guilt around romance and relationships comes from his desire for more than his duty allows him.

during the conversation after kiava gamma, on the devil path, heinrix doesn't demur when asked about his past relationships - 'fleeting dalliances', he calls them, and he seems to be enjoying himself as he narrows his eyes at the rogue trader, anticipating their response. it's only if the rogue trader says they meant more than that, more than just those 'fleeting dalliances', that he closes himself off again.

the same thing comes up during the conversation after the magnae accessio. "my duty comes first, even before myself," he says. "in our position, i can allow myself very little. and for you it is no different, really."

as an agent of the holy ordos, as a servant of the golden throne, any relationship that cannot be set aside for his responsibilities, any relationship that might take time or attention or devotion away from his work - anything more - isn't something he can allow himself. especially with the rogue trader, who he has been tasked with surveilling by the inquisition.

and his desire for more is what shames him. he was allowed to live by the imperium, anathema though he is - how could he want anything more than to serve it?

that's what he confesses, frozen nearly to death in the rogue trader's quarters.

heinrix believes he has a duty to the inquisition, to the imperium, to humanity and the god-emperor of mankind. he let himself think that maybe, just maybe, he could have what he wanted and be with the rogue trader, too.
