I was fortunate enough to get the experience to spend a few hours with the amazing people at araminta cambell textiles. This is showing the process of warping up a loom, some of the main products and the large scale looms used here. Photo creds: both me and araminta campells instagram

While I was in Edinburgh I had opportunity to visit Dovecot studios and view the tapestries as well as the current exhibit featuring period clothing. The tapestries I got to see while I was there inspired me to start weaving my own personal project with the same traditional weaving methods that Dovecot uses although a bit stripped down and humble.

Very early in the morning start to the trip with a red eye from NC to Toronto. Then from Toronto to Edinburgh with lots of delays and a very long flight.

Hello,
My name is Miranda and I am a costume technology major at UNC School of the Arts. I was fortunate enough to receive a grant from The Semans Art Fund which is a private foundation that provides funding to current UNCSA students for summer study, special projects, research, and performances, building upon the resources of UNCSA in imaginative ways.
With it I went to Edinburgh, Scotland to study traditional tarten weaving and wool with bespoke artists. While I was there I also got to attend the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one of the largest performing arts festival in the world.
This blog will be me posting photos, writing and others finds from this trip and self exploration after it.
