Every piece of work you create doesn’t have to be The Best, Perfect, Flawless Work for it to be meaningful.
The first story I ever started?  About teenage girls that get elemental powers and get kidnapped?  If I hadn’t written that, I might’ve never tried getting stories out of my head and onto paper.
The first story I ever finished?  A YA fantasy with too many characters and flat relationships and a unnecessarily complicated plot?  If I hadn’t written that, I might’ve never believed that I could finish a novel-length story.
The first fanfiction I ever uploaded?  A self-insert OC fanfiction that overused italics?  If I hadn’t written that, I might’ve never gone on to spend a decade writing fanfiction.
The first novel I tried to query?  A draft I didn’t much like, a story I was fed-up with, rejections I knew were deserved?  If I hadn’t written that, I might’ve never pushed myself to figure out what the publishing process looked like.
The whump snippets I jot down?  Help me refine writing whump, writing pain, writing angst and emotions and feelings.
The new tropes/styles I try out?  Help me broaden my writing experience, better my writing, allow me to branch out.
The writing, day after day, even if it’s deleted, even if I hate it, even if I think it’s absolute garbage?  Help me write, help me get words onto the page, help me flex my fingers and imagination, help me figure out what I’m doing wrong so I know what to do right.
Everything you create is a step forward, even if you don’t see it at the time.
When you look back at old work, it’s easy to cringe, it’s easy to hide your face, it’s easy to wince and wish you did better and pretend like it didn’t exist.  But climbing a mountain means accepting that you started at the bottom, means realizing that the view is so much better for the effort, means remembering that even when you couldn’t see the clouds, you kept moving forward.

Zoomester Studyblr Challenge
Tumblr media
Hi! I’m not a big creator on here but I always see Studyblr Challenges and I try my best to always take part (even tho i fail halfway) but this is my last semester at uni and I wanted to do a little something something.
Info
This challenge is starting on March 1st and contains 31 prompts (one per day of the month) but feel free to take part at any given time!
I initially aimed this challenge for all my struggling last semester/grad school/ thesis writing people BUT honestly, whatever your grade, this zoomester is crazy as it is.

How to Outline for Lazy People
If you’re a panster/plantser like me, outlining is like a no-no for you, either because you’re too lazy to do the job or it’s not your style. I’m gonna share this small tip on how to outline without too much effort (I don’t know if this has been shared before, so sorry in advance if this is repeated).
Step #1:
Take a bunch of index cards (the small ones would do) or strips of paper large enough to fit a sentence or two. You can also use sticky notes or some other fancy paper if you’re rich enough to afford those.
Step #2:
Assuming that you have a rough plot in mind for your soon-to-be novel, write out all the possible scenes that will happen in the story (You can also write other important details too). It doesn’t matter if you write them in chronological order or not, or if the scenes are relevant to the plot or not, just WRITE EVERY SINGLE THING. Be messy and creative.
Step #3:
Got a bunch of cards filled with sloppy handwriting? Awesome! Now, set those aside and if you’re writing on a table (or have a board), divide your space into three columns/categories: the Yes column, the No column, and the Maybe column.
Step #4:
Begin sorting those cards to the appropriate categories you think would fit. Then, try to arrange the scenes from the Yes (and also Maybe, if you put something there) column in chronological order. Soon enough you’d get a full outline for your story! Hooray!
When I’ve learned this method, it was super helpful when I got stuck with the plot of my story. It’s really simple and fun to do, like a jigsaw puzzle but for a story plot lol
I hope this tip helps you in any way!

I HATE seeing posters, especially around schools, that say “failure is not an option”. Fuck that. Failure is always an option. It’s okay to fail. You will fail in life at some point. You need to prepare yourself for failure or else once you do fail, it will destroy you and you won’t know how to pick yourself up. Failure is a part of life. Failure is always an option.

to everyone else in school right now:
please use sparknotes. please use khan academy. please listen to school house rock songs and watch the history of the entire world i guess and tim and moby and bill nye. any documentary you watch in class can be found somewhere online with a quick google. get your books from project gutenberg and z-lib. download textbooks off the internet whenever you can find them. use desmos for a free online graphing calculator. if you’re learning something and you don’t get it look up the wikipedia page on it and put it into simple english to get the gist, then put it back into regular english to get the full story. cheat if you have to. school sucks so bad rn and if you’re like me and you get all your materials secondhand or from the lost and found, online resources are really useful rn; all of the above have helped me pass a class in some way, and i hope they can help you too.
stay inside and stay safe. best of luck to all the students out there.

week four and im 100% obsessed with this planning system! this week i went with a yellow theme, still using the same color coding (for tasks, appointments, etc.) as last week. also, this was the week leading up to august 24th: the dreaded sat test date. standardized testing stresses me the heck out. i can’t figure out why i don’t test well, when I’m a perfectly hardworking, successful, and passionate student. these tests have been the source of 98% of my anxiety for the past three years. i know i’m not the only one, so if you’re also struggling with this, remember that test scores do not define you, or your intelligence.
have a wonderful week everyone!!

upon my return and desire to reconstruct the aesthetic, I will make one final note clear:
what dark academia is:
helpful obscure language learning tips, overly-romanticized words to describe the feeling of studying your passion, an opportunity to explore childhood infatuations with history/science/art that were once discouraged, a platform to show an old vintage skirt you bought and where to find one like it, posting the photo of an aesthetically pleasing coffee you drank while writing an essay on a gloomy day, wandering old libraries and museums, and reading thrillers and ancient literature with rain and mystery in the air.
what dark academia is not:
an excuse to glorify western culture and classical societies, a secret society that gate keeps academia, blind worship of The Secret History, the idolization of problematic historical figures and Western-European beauty (cough … anti-Semitic Oscar Wilde and the same mood board of pale skin over and over).

punk academia is:
heavy old boots laced up either too tight or not at all
blazers with too many pins (worn over a band shirt for extra points)
having a study playlist comprised of absolute bops because nothing would help you focus, so why not have something to sing along to
not wanting to pursue college education due to the financial strain but also not wanting to work at a dead end job you'll always hate
reading entire wikipedia articles about shit you already know because maybe there's something else to learn about it (bonus points for clicking on the reference links when you're finished)
keeping your music collection next to your favorite books
writing an essay about something entirely different than what was assigned because the assignment was bullshit and a waste of time
(i'm just spitballing here, as a punk with too much time on his hands. add shit! do it!)
