I’ve been watching the original Transformers series and have made it to the first movie.

I loved it, of course. But from what I’ve gathered about the fandom, what I’m about to say is kinda controversial:

I really loved Hot Rod.

Yes, he was impulsive and yes, he technically got Optimus killed (Megatron would have gotten him anyway; Rod just delayed it).

But isn’t he exactly the kind of autobot that Optimus tends to believe in? Rod’s character reminded me so much of characters like Silverbolt and Bumblebee: clumsy and inexperienced but determined to protect his friends.

I’m on my way to start the third season so I don’t know how he is there, but as someone whose favourite character is Optimus Prime, I still loved Hot Rod.
