Spliff: OG, I found this scruffy little cat on the street. I’m thinking of keeping it.

Johnny Silverhand: Seriously, Spliff? More pussy in this cramped apartment? You trying to launch sardine corporation? You, Twenn, Panam and Judy. We’ve got more women here than sense, and now you want to add a furball to the mix?

Spiff: Come on, Johnny. Nibbles is adorable. Look at those eyes! Besides, she’s got this rebellious streak, just like you. She’s a survivor, man.

Johnny Silverhand: Surviving ain’t the same as thriving, Spliff. And what’s with the name? Nibbles? Sounds like a snack, not a badass cat.

Spliff: Alright, alright. How about this: we name her “Nugz”. She’ll be our little sidekick, prowling the shadows, hacking into catnip stashes. We’ll even teach her to roll our blunts for us. 😍🥰 and… I’ll let you watch next time me, panam and Judy dock..😒 (hits blunt)

Johnny Silverhand: well, would it hurt a little if I-

Spliff: LOOK, No TOUCHY! (Passes Johnny the blunt giving him the stare of death)

Johnny Silverhand: 😅 Nugz, huh? (Pets her) Yeah, I can dig that. She’s got spunk. Alright, Spliff, you win. But if she starts messing with my guitar cables, she’s outta here.

Spliff: Deal, Johnny. Nugz it is. And who knows, maybe she’ll even help us take down Arasaka someday. One scratch at a time.

Johnny Silverhand: Damn straight. Welcome to the team, Nugz. Just don’t expect me to pet you again last time I touched a kitty I ended up nuking Arasaka tower over her. (Hits blunt)

And that’s how Nibbles became Nugz, the most nova damn cat in Night City. 🐾

Loyalty.

So much can be said about the importance of loyalty. How empires have been erected with it. How wars have been decided by it. How our species survival has at times depended on it. 楚 or Chǔ is one of the seven virtues of bushido, the ethical code these warriors lived and died by. Yes, Human beings throughout history have used this quality as a tool to carve out their place in this plane of existence. But rarely is the other side of this double edged sword brought up. What about when loyalty, and more specifically, the loyalty you show to others is to your own detriment?

Perspective is important.

Ï was conjured in the slums of a city where such Ä perspective is laughable. Morals and idealism is nice but it’s the Wild West out here. “Honor?!😂😂 you burnt the fuck out dickhead!” Is not too far off from the reply you’d receive trying to live righteously in this environment. Here, your child’s mother might fuck your mortal enemy because you looked to happy dropping them off to her. Here, your right hand man, whom you’ve know since childhood, might blow your brains out of your skull and onto the pavement like a banksy street art piece, and Äll because of a girl he wanted that didn’t give him play because she had her eyes on you. The real tragedy to me is that neither of these situations were about any money🤦🏽‍♂️ Unfortunately, I’ve witnessed both happen to some really good men that didn’t deserve it. 🕊️. What is one trying to live better to do under these circumstances of reality?

Pragmatic thought processes may lead you to think “well, maybe you have to be more discerning of who you give your loyalty too.” But Ï feel this notion is quixotic at best and contrarian at worst. Life is messy and you can never know a human beyond the mask they choose to show you. To be loyal is to allow yourself to be vulnerable to the capricious nature of the land mammals you happen to exist around🤷🏽‍♂️. Well, that leads us back to the mentality of the samurai. They laid there life down for their daimyo(Feudal Lord) regardless of how they felt about their lord’s decisions.

We praise them for upholding this virtue but looking at it realistically. Without this grandiose lens. What did you give your only (as far as you know and not just have faith in) finite life for? From all walks of life I ask, on a long enough timeline, because let’s be honest it’s been long enough. Did the empire you KILLED for conquer this planet and bring worldwide peace? Did that gang you DIED for fix the poverty stricken streets you, your mother , and siblings barely escaped from? Did the political party you LIED and GASLIGHTED for install the policies and laws to bring your country and it’s citizens to the upper echelons of life without stepping on a particular group or at least install the ones that would keep those particular groups from being stepped on? Did the religion you BLEW UP-... 😂😂😂 you get the point. Or do you? What is the point of it all? I suppose it’s up to each and every individual to decide their own head canon to justify this quality. And well... at least you have that.

I briefly wonder if any thought is ever put into why this notion of Men being numb is so common place that it’s almost synonymous with the gender. By virtue of saying this you accept that this is not good or normal. You feel nothing. The human brain releases chemicals that culminates in the production of what we call emotion. To feel is not a woman thing that is a Human thing. To not feel is to not have humanity. The widespread trauma that must occur for something like this to be said.. no human should feel numb and yet so many of us do. Such is life tho.

You can give it Äll. Äll of yourself. Äll of your time. Äll of your energy. But in the End, your conquests are Äll for naught. Don’t let this stop you however, instead let it free you from the chains of expectation and the mental constructs you and everyone you’ve ever known has placed upon you. Alan Watts once said something to the effect of the Universe being a constantly changing ether. Nothing is static and nothing gets to stay forever. The more you try to hold on to something the more you will suffer. It does not matter what path you chose to walk in life. The path of religion, penance, lust, pleasure, charity, conquest. You will always find your way back here. We tend not to accept this, thinking maybe we aren’t trying hard enough. Maybe we haven’t dedicated ourselves enough. This is fine as long as you are aware of what your are truly doing. This isn’t an attack on your life choices or beliefs. It is up to you what you choose to do with your finite time in this plane of existence.

ÄPÄTHŸ isn’t a brand or a business as much as it is Ä ongoing art project manifested by the mind of a fallen warrior slowly drifting into madness. It can be said that the hope is for it to be appreciated and treated for what it is. But as it’s name suggests, such chains are superfluous.
