Rohan vs Lizardmen in Double Delaying Action
Scenario is from the always-great One-Hour Wargames. Each army hopes to delay the other as a more decisive battle joins hours away. Rohan must secure the village and exit also a unit off the far end of the road; Lizards must make mandatory withdrawals off the same road while defending.
Kristina commands the Lizardmen in defense; I’m running my Riders.
Rohan, poised to assault both crossings at once. The archers are arrayed behind the safety of the river. The Lizards stand ready to counterattack.
Backed by warriors of the King’s household, a band of riders storm the ford and sweep, undeterred, into the woods. Though their charge is slowed, they are soon victorious.
Rushing across the bridge, the Riders of Rohan hope to sweep through the Lizards and overrun the town. But the blue wall stands, and more Saurus sweep into the town square, routing Rohan’s first wave.
A fierce but inconclusive contest continues in the town as the Riders clear the woods and continue to sweep through all resistance. The Skinks in reserve are slinking off the field to march for the decisive battle further away. Rohan’s reserve cavalry have chosen the wrong direction, and will spend the rest of the day stuck in traffic on the bridge.
The Saurus reserve attempts to exit, but is overwhelmed by the unstoppable Riders, who have crossed the full diagonal length of the field to frustrate the Lizards’ withdrawal. Though the brave Saurus hold the town against charging riders, implacable footmen, and an endless rain of arrows on their flank, they have failed their mandatory orders, and lose the game.
A great game, tense until the end. The Lizards planned a careful defense, and only the speed of the excellent Rohan cavalry was able to swing the balance.

“I would say no, I don’t want to watch it. I don’t want any part of that. There’s nice people you can hire. There’s nice people who can make things, there’s nice people who make cartoons. … They’re just as fucking good.” -- Katie Rice

Black Legion Chaos Space Marines
Another small-scenario bunch. The Dark Vengeance CSM sculpts are fantastic. Too bad this is all of them. This was a slow project: I finished the boltgun marine on the right more than a year ago.

Time to delurk for the new year and start posting again. My new job this year devours most of my waking hours (and too many of the sleeping ones), but I’m still painting. I don’t think I actually like Shadespire, but the minis are fantastic, and were a fun opportunity to do very limited palette painting.

Long time no post! That’s because for the past few months I’ve been working on my first ever army. Instead of just one or two figures to paint there were 30. But they’re all finished now. Warhammer 40K Sisters of Silence.
Next up I have some supplementary things to add to this army, including an inquisitor and a tech priestess.

Really love this cover!

Chapter 6 is out on itch.io now
It is $1, 33 pages full-color, and deals with the aftermath of events from chapter 5. Currently I’m not sure when the Comixology version will release, but probably within a month.

Thank you for your support!

For every correct answer you give, the machine rewards you with a new letter in your name. Therefore, robots with long names are smarter than those with short names. T/F?
Chapter 5 is online for free reading.
It’s a long chapter. The art in this one is probably the best so far. I think the story is pretty strong, too. As usual, tell me what you think.

Guinea pig sisters with matching plaid shirts
If my guinea pigs were human, they would wear loose, comfortable clothes. Lots of layers. And carry about shoulder bags full of snacks. And like a band called Backstreet Boars (but it’s okay if you like New Pigs on the Block better, we can still be friends).

Pu’er - 2014-08-01 - 2017-06-22
Our sweet, brave Pu’er passed away last night. She was a wonderful pig. She showed Kristina how amazing guinea pigs are. She was an ever-faithful friend and protector to her sister Oolong. When she met Barley, she helped teach him how to be a good pig, and now he is a strong, kind, gentle boar.
Pu’er was born on a farm on Xishan in Suzhou. Her first humans grew organic green peppers for their baby cavies, and impressed on us the importance of feeding her green peppers: she loved these, as well as the mandarins her hometown is famous for, the wheat grass Kristina grew for her, and all manner of other fruits and veggies. In her last month, she discovered a love for cherries, and ate fresh basil from Kristina’s garden.
When I first brought her home on the bus, she and Oolong were in a tiny cardboard box. As I peered in, Pu’er nosed back at me, chin held high, in the warning display we would soon come to recognize. Even as a two-week-old piglet, she fearlessly put herself between giant me and her sister. This summer, when we moved to our new house, she was brave as ever: the first nose out from under the blankets in the car, then the leader of the piggle train exploring the new house. Even as she weakened, her spirit was as strong as ever.
Thank you, Pu’er, for welcoming me into your life. A little bit of me will always be a little guinea pig thanks to you. Oolong and Barley miss you, but don’t worry, your herd is in good paws. We love you, Pu’er.

First game of 8th Edition!!!
Annalisa IV was once an agri-world feeding trillions. No one knows why all communication stopped 200 years ago. Some say the Governor-engineer committed terrible biotech-heresies in his quest for ever-greater yields. Others whisper that a malign spirit, with one eye of fire and one eye of ice, has caused the calamity for its own amusement.
Those few Rogue Traders to pass the planet tell impossible stories of monstrous vegetables run amok in the once-bustling packing-hives.
The Blood Ravens have come to Annalisa IV in search of answers -- and perhaps forbidden bio-relics of the suspected heresy. Shadowing them, the hunters of Aun’Kai hope to capture samples of sacred Imperial warp technology. The two search parties clash among the ruins of the Tomato Silos.
Quick game using the rules and stats that have appeared online, as well some extrapolations. Hunting for The Relic, the Marines have terrible luck at deployment: the Relic is in the Tau zone. They’ll have to leg it. Massed pulse fire nearly destroys the first squad, but its flamer survives to severely weaken two Tau squads. But the second wave cannot reach the objective in time: the last two surviving Tau hold the Teleport Homer for victory after five turns.
8th Ed is great! Everything flows so much faster. Battleshock is a vast improvement over the old morale system. Melee is a bit more forgiving (at least among ordinary troops), and doesn’t bog the game down anymore. Drones feel far more like I imagine them: buckets of inaccurate fire, zooming close to shoot and then slipping back to screen the Fire Warriors from charges.
