Gorguts
So, technical death/avantgarde metal Gorguts is what’s on my plate. It is juggernaut of a band. Pleiades’s Dust is a monster track spanning 33 minutes and lyrically, it explores an ancient library. Well. This kind of metal is like chaos incarnated. In the vein of Deathspell Omega, which is a band whose music, when I heard first in my younger days, I associated with madness. But this kind or should I say level of technicality is not appreciated by everyone. Most of us just needs our sane repetitions and breakdowns. But I see the point, Gorguts and Meshuggah and all the rest.

The Devin Townsend Project - Transcendence
Progressive metal. The theme is spirituality. This album is so uplifting. Kind of its own genre. Devin Townsend is apparently a well known name in prog circles. The cover art is a mixture of divine ideas, like the lamb, sun and moon phases, the triangle. https://youtu.be/44TzcehU0V8

Persefone - Aathma
Progressive melodic death metal from Andorra. I fall asleep listening to music. Today's choice was Persefone's latest and freshest album Aathma. This album is beautiful. Spiritual, just like the previous, melodic, as spirituality should be, metal, because metal. Definitely worth the praise it's getting.

Probability
Why are things not hanging mid-air? Because they are way more likely to fall down.

Mechina - As Embers Turn to Dust
Mechina's sound is unique. It's a blend of symphony, death metal and magic. The story of this album is the completion of an arc that started 5 albums back, and is too convoluted to enumerate on here. Their music is allegedly created digitally in its entirety. The album features at least 2 vocalist, one being a female. Each track is unique, catchy, and stands out from the others on the album. The theme is about...well, space and machines, as the name suggests. It's industrial and epic, and a blend any kind of metal fan should enjoy. https://youtu.be/sw0UCFa7CjE

Mithras - On Strange Loops
Raw, technical precision from UK technical brutal death metal band Mithras. Their fourth album brings unmatched technical proficiency with themes of life, existence, gods, the universe, all in all, cosmic. On Strange Loops delivers heavy drumplay, the band's signature sound. Tic-Toc frames the album on the opening and closing tracks. Strange Loops indeed. My find of 2016. The cover art is a Moebius loop. https://g.co/kgs/AvIjn5

Metazoa by Cormorant
Brooding, slow paced melodic death metal about nature and animals and the like. The cover art is full of marine creatures. The music is reminiscent of Be'lakor in the intensity of the growls and the pacing of the songs. A little coarse, but the release is from 2009 so the band surely have evolved much since.
