I love seeing people’s picrew art styles because you can just look at them and be like
“You read homestuck and it was a big part of your life for a few years, you’re not into steven universe but you did watch it, and you had an intense black butler phase in middle school and doodled their eyes over and over again in your spiral notebooks”

yeah, Nipha's a bat plague demon to play off how many diseases are spread by bats. like an inordinate amount of diseases
(So my laptop says its Bat Appreciation Day so I was inspired to write a little something. This is Nipha the plague demon.)
You'd think with how much time I spend in India I'd get to know the place more, but I always find myself in the same spots over and over again. Always a fruit tree, sometimes mango, sometimes bananas, the occasional palm. I peek through the thick leaves at the banana bunch I've been keeping watch of. Perfectly ripe and yellow, just in time for the harvest season. My eyes slowly trickle down to the whole reason I'm here. One banana; freshly nibbled. I can still smell the bat that decided to snack on this one. A strong carrier, its scent is palpable yet barely different from mine. It takes a trained nose to notice the subtle differences in the smell of nipah. Mine smells older, more worn and aged like a fine cheese. This bat was clearly recently infected. It's smell is stronger and more distinct, akin to the normal ripe smell of the fruit that it has latched on to. Lost in thought for just a moment, I catch myself reaching out to the banana. My consciousness returns as I pull my paw back. I look away, their beautiful yellow is too tempting. I can just feel the delicious mush in my mouth as I try to hold back. I have a job to do. Snack time would have to be later. I can't compromise this. Luckily, it seems I don't have to wait much longer. My ears perk up, a rustling in the trees. I float up into the air above the tree to see if I can catch a glimpse of them. My wings jitter for just a moment as I catch a glimpse of them. A couple humans; teens at that. Perfect. They're talking amongst themselves. It seems they broke into this orchard. As if my job couldn't get any easier. My ears flick with the crunch of each leaf underneath their feet. Finally, they stop at my tree. I lower myself down to their level and hover halfway inside of a leaf. Their appetite is almost as palpable as mine. The leader, every group of teens always has one, reaches out for a banana. Wait, that's the wrong one. A small burst of blue sparks bursts from my hand as I wave it to the right. A gust of wind spins the tree just as the kid was about to ruin everything. He steps back. His face contorts as the bananas spin for just a moment. Then he sees it. My ticket to another job done. I can see him reaching for it, the hunger just about overriding his brief bout of confusion. He plucks it straight from the tree with barely a glance. He doesn't look at the peel long enough to see the small bite mark hidden from his gaze. Now, I don't know about other demons. But for me personally? There's nothing more satisfying that seeing a human as they write their own doomed fate. His satisfaction in the delicious treat rivals mine as I witness the disease work its way into his blood. I reach a hand out, letting the sickly green of my magic flow out. It coalesces deep inside the kid as I start to smell him reeking of that very scent that I share. He throws the peel on the ground laughing with satisfaction. A few of the other kids start grabbing the bananas but I pay no mind to them. My prize starts walking off. At this point I should be following him, helping the nipah fester and spread. But I stay back. After the other kids finally catch up to him, I make myself solid again. I deserve a treat for a job well done. I pluck another perfectly yellow banana from the tree. I don't even bother peeling it, the skin adds extra texture for my fangs. The pristine sweetness of the banana oozes its way into my fetid mouth. My blackened tongue coats itself in the mush as stand there reveling. My job is far from complete, but I've never been against celebrating early.
