Kanna would sit in his studio sometimes, and observe the various items that decorated the room. Jonathan had many lovely trinkets, as well as paintings he’d felt obligated to display, and as he continued, the walls seemed to fill up full of these pieces like a mural.

Each one felt like a window into a place and time to him. When Kanna would leave, he would inevitably sit himself down on the lounge himself and gaze into a painting quite like his lovely guest would, and get lost in a daydream.

He had no memories, and he rarely if ever went out. But the scenes in his paintings seemed almost like out of a memory. In a few of them, he could imagine himself and Kanna in the distance, under a pale blue sky, or a blanket of stars that overlooked the sea. He could see them having a picnic, and her playfully picking flowers. He could see her napping under a tree in the sunset as he sketched her.

As lonely as it seemed, this was the sort of thing that held him over until the next time he’d have the pleasure of seeing her again. There was hardly a space free for him to add a single item more, save for a section he’d been carefully hoarding for his next “perfect masterpiece”.

A spot saved in case he needed it.

He wasn’t sure if these places or scenes were real. Truthfully, whenever he tried to remember anything tangible, it was as if his mind blanked out, and an uneasy ache would overtake his person.

He stopped his drawing to observe Kanna’s expression for a moment, as she gazed at a particular painting she always seemed to rest her eyes on when she was trying to be still. It was a painting of a small but sturdy house among a thicket full of wildflowers that threatened to encroach upon the lovely home. It stood beautifully, windows open to let the evening summer air in, a small garden beside it, and two pairs of shoes by the front door.

A lovely cottage fit for a pair of lovers, Jonathan assumed. He also admittedly appreciated that painting the most. Something about it seemed almost dreamlike, a pure fantasy of an idealized life.

He wondered if Kanna could see the same dream that he saw, when he looked at that painting.

The window in his room, to him, reminded him of a birdcage.

How did he know what a birdcage was? He wasn’t sure. He’d seen them before, but he couldn’t exactly recall where.

When he allowed himself to take in the full picture, Kanna appeared to him like a beautiful captive to his birdcage, silhouetted by the darkness of his window.

A little bird who no longer sang. But she still looked out onto these paintings, and sometimes out the window. She could envision the freedom, but she could never taste it here.

Jonathan was satisfied at least, with the image. His heart felt a little uneasy, but when she went away, it was almost as if he felt nothing.

Until his next guest, all he could do was wait. He looked out the window of his studio, a sketchbook on his lap, a partway finished sketch of her waiting for him to look upon her again.

1, 8, and 19 for Kanna?

The original thought was...? It's hard to say anymore, but she started out as a YYH oc who's appearance was based on my gaiaonline avatar in 5th grade :)

I guess I was thinking "I want a cute cat demon girl to ship with Kurama and Hiei!" Though I didn't have those precise words in 5th grade tehehe

Here's a doodle of what I remember her old design looking like!!

Her original personality was kind of similar to what you might observe in a character like Rei from Evangelion or Rachel Gardner in Angels of Death. She was meant to be a quiet and emotionless type girl with a strong air of mystery. But underneath the surface was a lot of turmoil, it was always a case where she had experienced some horrible trauma that made her this quiet and mysterious person. And then, once in a while, her emotions would overflow and she'd be possessed by some sort of entity that made her just mercilessly destroy everything around her hahaha.

Projecting? I mean absolutely. I think Kanna has always been extremely connected to my personality and emotions. I just think she's a more interesting version, if that makes sense :)

My favorite thing about her is everything...i like to draw her, i like to think about her. Shes perfectly imperfect and she's a mary sue and she's a selfish monster and she's a selfless loving girly bish. She's just a lot of fun to think about!

My least favorite thing is...shes sensitive. I'm sensitive? Im so emotionally attached to her that when other people interact with her, i easily get to feeling uncomfortable if I dont really like the situation.

I love to torture her but I guess I'm a bit of a control freak about it? It's kind of strange to talk about. But it's why I dont really like to ship her with other people's characters anymore u.u I'm too sensitive, or she's too sensitive. Both?

She's a selfish and jealous girl!! She says love her only!!!

Theres so many favorite arts or scenes or ideas I have for her so I'll just go off for a bit maybe

Lately I've just been thinking idly about her during her time as the demon queen. I've been kinda trying to plan out the layout of the castle she and everyone resides in~

I should probably take some time to draw out notes when I have time. Also I should probably list the various servants and their roles. I also wanna draw rooms for everyone too hehe!

The current idea I have running lately is a bit like ... boring maybe. Kanna hasn't been the main character so to speak but she's a integral or important one? It's also the story concept I generally refer to as The Studio or The Birdcage. It's more or less in the pov of Jonathan after he loses his memories and becomes a servant of Dev's.

In that story, Jonathan considers himself a devoted person in the way he can be I guess. The two of them have more of a uhhh master and servant type relationship. He admires her and respects her but is very afraid to cross any lines, so not to exact anyone's wrath ahaha.

As he is a servant of the king, and she is the queen...he feels that he must respect their different ranks.

He's just the king's kept little artist who paints beautiful pictures for him, but his favorite subject is his queenie Kanna uwu🩷

Kanna in this story is kind of gloomy. She's a bit resigned to the cards she was dealt and lives her life under the king's thumb, his favorite doll to do with as he likes. She's given up on the idea that Jon might care about her, and she gets sad pretty easily when she notices he has bonded with other residents of the castle--he has many interactions with Dev's other servants often, since they are more free to interact with him.

Dev's mother was the one who raised him~ but he's been alive so long...he doesn't quite remember her as well as he'd like.

💌 - First crush/love

Remy was the first person he really fell in love with, though their relationship has always been pretty rocky and toxic haha! Remy is really displeased with how self absorbed Devvy's become, yet they still seem to work together quite well~

🗑- "it's complicated"

Though Kanna is the most central to his complicated situation ... uh, many many people have complicated relationships with him!! Jon, Kanna, Remy, and Miwa are just a few!

1. TLDR AGEAD OMG Honestly, the original thought was more me just playing with a couple different designs one night...I wanted to make a cute flowery pink princess, and I was heavily under the influence of Utena and Rose of Versailles at the time 🥰

This was the original concept I drew up! I thought she was pretty cute, but I didn't have any particular plans for her... but some stuff happened that sort of made me decide to keep her n3n// if it weren't for all that mess, Proserpina may not exist!

To be honest,I changed her design a few times to appease some outside parties. It was a whole mess, but looking back, I kind of want to revert back to some of my concept choices...like her pink hair most of all. I really wanted to keep that! But cus I wanted to make this other person happy, i decided to try and change her design.

She went through a bunch of adjustments before I decided on a final "look" to please this person, but also myself. But to be honest, I still kinda want to follow my original concept a bit closer. I need to quit worrying so much about what others think, and just draw what makes me happy 🩷 so maybe you'll see a different kind of Pina in the future!

2. To be honest I still believe Pina is a work in progress, I suppose that was sort of answered in the previous question somewhat!
