Meant to post a little update in February, now it's March, oops.

TLDR If nothing comes up, I'm hoping to get this chapter out in late March/early April.

Chapter 6 progress is looking good! I'm about 92% done with the chapter overall. What's left is:

Finishing one last page (which has a lot of cameos* on it 👀)

Making the cover

Finalizing all the pages, which is mostly just going through each page and doing any final effects or corrections.

I also got my personal website updates (including Tumblr API pipeline) to the "good for now" stage (website has a few features I'd like to add, but nothing critical; I got the API working for 95% of my posts, but I want to throw it off a bridge so I'm calling that done for now).

Given all that, I think I could get this done and ready this month, but given how much things have popped up and pushed back my expectations...*knock on wood* hopefully March, maybe April.

*Quick note on cameos: I'm finding many submissions now have broken images. This is mostly because of Discord's changes (they now delete images after a time). If you think you may be impacted or just want to make sure your character's information is correct/up-to-date, please feel free to resubmit. I'll make sure to use the most recent version that's been sent in, thanks!

Been awhile so I should probably update on the status of things.

The comic is still alive! Just had a lot going on, so progress on chapter 6 hasn't moved much. That progress being:

Backgrounds are 94% done

After that is shading/any other finalization that needs doing

Overall, chapter 6 is 73% done

Hopefully, my last remaining blocker to getting that progress moving again is overhauling the backend of my personal site. It currently uses WordPress and I'm looking to update it to a custom solution.

WP was originally fine for getting started, but since then the minor annoyances have piled up and finally boiled over as I can no longer schedule posts (they just refuse to post??).

Timeline/progress on that? IDK. I should make a spreadsheet to track that tbh. Ideally I'd have this done before the end of this year, but I always forget how busy I get around this time so we'll see!

would you happen to have any tips on creating a pmd comic series? Asking for a friend.

My general advice is always: just go for it!

I see a lot of people (myself included initially) who struggle to just start. And honestly I found just starting and experimenting with comics the best way to learn.

Otherwise, some random tips:

I'd recommend having a vague outline for the story, but everyone is different, so you have to figure out what balance works for you. Whether that's no script and making things up on the fly or a detailed script to keep you on track. This is something I figured out, my earliest comics had no script (which I found caused problems for me) while some I cancelled I overwrote the script (and thus, burnt out on them) where now I feel I've found a nice balance.

For PMD comics, you get to decide what from the games you want to keep. An amnesiac human-turned-Pokemon protagonist is the game standard, but if you don't want to include that or other game elements (from tropes to mechanics) you don't need to. It's your comic!

Further on that^, you also can decide if you want to do a very classic PMD story (or a retelling of the games, like a Nuzlocke or an adaptation) or tell an original story set in the Pokemon world. I like doing Nuzlocke comics, but I'm always pleasantly surprised by what I see other people getting up to.

For hosting, Tumblr works but I prefer ComicFury. It's a free webcomic host with great customization options and a lot of other Pokemon/PMD comics mirror/host there too. There's also forums where I've picked up a variety of comic-making tips from discussions with other users!

I remember my days of playing PMD: DX, I would always get stuck on Giritina and have to rescue myself, but my question is, what was the reason you started this comic series?

Yeah Giratina's dungeon in TDS was not a fun one. So many Pokemon with full room hitting moves... The design of the lower floors was also super funky and memorable too

I really started this comic because I'd had the itch to make another Nuzlocke comic for awhile haha!

I'd done several Nuzlocke runs since my last comic, but none that got past the gameplay--until this one. A lot of my ideas for other runs were "sure this is gameplay for Y/Sword/etc...but what if in the comic I made it a PMD-like world?". So when PMD DX was announced and I was hyped for another PMD game (even if a remake), I'm not surprised this was the run that I finally felt compelled enough to use as the base for a comic.

Describing how I come up with ideas is kinda hard because generally I think I thought, mull on it for a bit (minutes to months), weigh how it'll impact things if I include/change an idea, and see if I like the new/updated idea better.

Like, in-game my starter was a Charmander and Autumn's character was for another comic idea. But when I was changing NPC Pokemon species, I wondered if I should also change teammate species, and when I thought about swapping Charmander to Autumn's (at the time unnamed) character I really liked what it added and how well it worked with my heavy wand/item usage in the gameplay.

You'll have to wait and see for Chapter 6! Levi's now on the team, so we'll be seeing more of them I suppose ;)
